Not happy with owner and manager. All 3 of my children were not comfortable at the summer camp by Idea Lab Kids in Pearland. The older two were enrolled in the cooking camp and the youngest in art camp. Day 1 of the camp, I received a call saying the art camp teacher couldn’t make it and so they were placing my youngest in another camp for that day. That was fine but also made me nervous. All 3 children complained that some of the staff were mean and made them feel uncomfortable. When I came to pick up my children, the owner and manager felt the need to complain about my daughter but didn’t give me sound reasons to complain. She said my daughter was being difficult and arguing. I of course heard her out and then asked my daughter her explanation. My son also chimed in. Come to find out my daughter was spoken to rudely and was simply asking questions because no expectations had initially been set and the owner did not like the questions. Her justification was that she had been in the industry for a long time and that “you can just feel when children don’t want to listen and want to be difficult”. That was a red flag for me and I do not feel comfortable sending my children to a place whose owner feels this way about kids. My children did really enjoy the art teacher and cooking teacher though it seems that the owner is present all day and rude enough to the point the children did not want to go back.
Update - seeing the review below I want to clarify everything I said was accurate. I will give examples of what was rude. For example, the art teacher told my daughter and son they could go to the lobby room area. They did and they saw a ball and were gently playing with it. The owner came in and reprimanded them. She immediately addressed them as “problem children” questioning why they were there and telling they should be in their classroom. They said that the art teacher permitted that and she got upset with them instead of recognizing her and her staff were clearly not on the same page. She also told them they cannot play with the ball and she told my daughter “you’re older you should know better.” My daughter respectfully told her she didn’t think she was doing something wrong and didn’t know it was not permitted to play with the ball because there were no rules posted and nothing verbally mentioned before that either. The owners gave them an attitude and told them to go back to class. When I came in this is what she felt warranted letting me know that there was a behavior issue. Do not trust this place if management views children in...

I believe that this negative review is unjust. There was some misunderstanding at my end to send the siblings to a waiting area prior to the designated time and when Ms. Anju ( the campus director and the owner) noticed this she asked them a few times to go back to the their camp room and wait there. The children were clearly not listening to her as they stayed out at their place for some time and eventually only very reluctantly & slowly started moving and were being rude to her as well. I can understand that they might not be aware of some of the protocols as they only came for 3 days but when asked to follow a protocol by the campus director there was no need for so much resistance. When the parent came to pick the children up and they were casually informed of the incident, they became defensive. Ms. Anju’s intentions were only to make the parent aware of the mistake that she worked to correct and to inform the parent of how the children responded. Wish this was taken for what it was, an effort to keep the parents informed of their children’s behavior outside of home as a lot of parents want to know that. Ms. Anju works very hard to ensure the safety for all the children at the camp/ campus. She goes above and beyond to guarantee the success of the instructors and the success and happiness of the students. Also, I was just a summer instructor so my response to this comment...
Read moreThis has been an excellent summer camp experience for our three oldest children, ages 7, 8, and 9. The kids attended full day camp all but two weeks of the summer vacation. They've been excited to go to camp every morning and beg to stay for after-care. Needless to say, they're now sad that the summer is coming to an end and they're already planning for next summer's camp. Their favorite camp themes have been cooking, medical professionals, and toy engineering. They come home with handmade models, diagrams, worksheets etc. of everything they have learned about at camp that day. I appreciate the academic setting of the camp, as well as the hands-on "craft" experiences of building models. Both the kids' minds and hands have been kept busy all summer long. They now talk to each other about things like DNA, anatomy, and aerodynamics at the dinner table. The owner, Ms. Anju is wonderful and my kids speak highly of her and her staff. I also appreciate that the instructors have teaching experience and knowledge in the subjects being taught to the kids. This is a great choice if you're looking for a fun and educational experience...
