Ong Jas is a vietnamese restaurant I was looking forward to trying. I came in for lunch on a Thursday which wasn't that busy. The restaurant is very well decorated and ambiance allows for natural light to complement the design. An annoying thing to see was that there was just random things cluttering the walkway to the bathroom and food items close to the floor near the kitchen walk way.

As I was seated, they informed me that the menu is available by qr code which you scan to bring you to their website. Depending on your phone, you may have to fidget around with the zoom. What I ended up choosing was the advertised lunch special for 15.99 (see pic) - got the Pho "Dac Biet", Spring Roll (1), and Iced Black Tea.

Food: The food more or less came out at the same time. Some things I observed are: The containers that contain the Sriracha, Hoisin and Sambal were annoying sticky. Nice idea but the spoon that accompanies the contain is too small and made it difficult to scoop out without a mess. (Hopefully you don't have big fingers) Conversely, the spoon that accompanied the pho was gigantic and made it extremely difficult to hold comfortably. =(

2.Spring Roll (Goi Cuon) was made ahead of time and was filled mostly with rice noodle. The pork was shaved most like with a deli slicer at the 0 setting. The meat cut thjs way made it feel like just a filler. Peanut sauce was a tad sweet for my liking...not really balanced.

Pho "Dac Biet" - not really a house special if you have to choose 3 meat types. I got the filet mignon, brisket and beef ball and got a decent portion of meat. Wish they would have kept the beef ball whole instead of cutting pieces to portion. (It's not really a ball then is it?) Also, would be great if they cooked the beef balls to soften them up. The taste of the broth for me was sweet, similar to the peanut sauce, not really balanced. It's an acceptable bowl but tastes nothing like the special you can get at Yummy Pho.

Iced Black Tea was unsweetened and refreshing. It was served in a Mason jar so it's got a strange southern feel to it but was a decent size.

Overall, I don't think I'd visit again to get the pho as the taste just wasn't what I prefer. The menu does have a decent offering of viet dishes : Bun Bo Hue, Noods, Rice, etc. So maybe perhaps there's some gold here but...

I never had any problems with my orders before until the old owner sold it. Under the new management, their services are getting worse and worse. Their food is so so. I don’t want to write a bad review for Vietnamese restaurant but this time, I was so disappointed. Their kitchen staffs cannot read and understand order instructions :)) I came here on Tet holiday with my family. We had 5 orders but 3/5 were wrong. Especially we requested NO ONION and CILANTRO, they put a lot in there, we ordered fresh noodles but only 2 of them came with fresh noodles. I ordered BBH with ONLY MEAT, no Bone, no Ham, no Onions, Cilantro. It came out with everything in there :))) They took it back then 10 minutes later, they brought it out for me with cold broth, soggy noodles, I could tell they tried make it right by taking the stuffs I requested and then they put some raw meat in there but broth was already cold, ewwww. Then they had to make another new bowl for me :))) such a waste of time :)) Yesterday I came here again with my family because they wanted to eat something near our house. The restaurant was not packed but they were so slow to make the food. I requested NO BRISKET, ONIONS AND CILANTRO for my bowl, hope they did it right for me this time but NO. 😏😏😏 they still put brisket, onion and cilantro in there and the guy who took my order said there was no WHITE ONION, I wanted NO ONIONS AND CILANTRO, I told them to make a new bowl for me because I was scared I had to wait for a long time like last time. I waited for like 15 more minutes and they upset me again, gave me that old cold bowl, soggy noodles, with some ONION AND CILANTRO still floating on the bowl. Hahaa at least you should tried to get all of it out so customer couldn’t tell that you’re lying to them :)))) then I waited for another 10 minutes to get my right order. My table had 4 drinks, I waited almost 30 minutes but nothing came out, told the server to cancel my drink, then when all of us finished our meal, yay the drinks came out. We guessed they had to go to HEB to buy lime to make our drink :)))) Then when we get the bill, they did not delete my drink. Fortunately, we double checked it before we paid. We got you!!! Hahaa There is no next time for me. Too much...

Probably won't be coming back here again. I went here a few times & the food & service was good. But then it took a turn when they hired a new person. He didn't seem like he cared much, when I came with a friend & we ordered the same dish he brought out the veggies for 1 serving & expected us to share it. When I asked for a 2nd plate of veggies for my friend because this was just enough for 1 person he almost didn't want to do it. Furthermore I noticed that a lot of Vietnamese people do come there & eat. When I go there I usually order in Vietnamese. I would have to ask for shrimp paste or else he wouldn't bring it for the bun bo hue. The last time I went there were barely any veggies with the bun bo hue. I know veggies aren't that expensive to have that much of a cut back. I think the final straw was when he didn't even held the CC machine high enough for me to put my card in. Like the restaurant is not so busy, where is your mind at? People are trying to pay you, lift the damn machine higher. Is your arm broken? I can't deal with bad service. I usually like to support local restaurants but this one is not one where I'll be going back. I just can't deal or support a place with bad service even if the...

This Pho in the hot stone bowl was amazing, I'll definitely come back. I would love to see hot traditional Vietnamese coffee on the menu, that would be great!

Love the decor and ambiance! The Mason/Ball jars are such a cute touch for the water and tea! For appetizers we got Wings and Spring Rolls. The wings were 3/5. I wouldn't order them again. The Spring Rolls were good, but only came with three and they are small. For drinks we had two speciality teas and pea flower limeade. The Jasmine tea is unsweetened, but very flavorful; the peach Jasmine tea is a show stopper!! My son liked the peaflower limeade. Now on to entrees ... everyone's food was AMAZING! We had garlic noodles with shrimp and garlic noodles with beef ... 10/10! The Pho and the presentation was awesome! My husband rated it 9/10 and my son said the Bun Bo Hue was 9/10! We enjoyed our experience; there was a wait and yhe food was fresh and came out very quickly! It's a soft opening right now, so the full menu isn't available, but I'm impressed thus far! Akilah
