I ate here once before shortly after it opened and I honestly cannot remember what I had. I was feeling hungry for something different on a Saturday for lunch and decided to give another try.
I placed an order for pick up. I live very close to this spot and the food was ready quickly when I arrived. The restaurant was clean and quiet when I entered with a few people eating in there. I ordered the Shrimp Crab Puffs, Brussel Sprouts, Shrimp Fried Rice and Catfish Po-Boy.
Nothing I ordered was bad but nothing knocked my socks off either. If I’m keeping it a buck, it mostly tasted generic to me. The crab puffs were okay. The brussel sprouts were actually pretty tasty though. Now to the main courses. The shrimp wasn’t bad at all but it was not packed with flavor either and the rice was a bit dry to me. Admittedly, I’m not a big rice guy in the first place but I just need a little more flavor and moisture. I had high hopes for the po-boy since I haven’t found any especially memorable po-boys outside of Louisiana. Unfortunately, the catfish was a bit dry and the bread was too dense for me and not garlicky enough in my opinion. The fries were plentiful but again a bit limp.
I applaud this restaurant for having such a diverse and varied menu. I look at it and everything looks delicious. Unfortunately, the execution wasn’t there for me this time. I’d love to come back and try something else from the off menu specials. With so many options in the area, I hope next time I return I can experience some bolder flavors that match the variety...
Read moreI had been wanting to try Boiling Dragon for a while, so I was SUPER excited to go last week. Unfortunately, my family and I were HUGELY disappointed. We ordered: 5 lbs of crawfish (cajun boil flavor), catfish basket, chicken strip basket, the firecracker shrimp, 3 softdrinks and 1 iced water. First of all, the firecracker shrimp was an appetizer... but it was brought out 15 min after we had already gotten our food... and it was awful. The chicken strips were SO badly overcooked it was like eating jerky. The catfish was also over cooked and tasted off - also had bones in it. Finally, the crawfish were gross... they were super small, under seasoned, over cooked and the "dipping" butter was weird and coagulated.
The restaurant itself is very small, which is fine, but if I have to go up to the counter and order my food, pay $101.00 (literally what we paid), not have a waiter... I expect the food to be better. I ended up bringing the catfish back up to the counter and informing the gentleman behind the register that their fish wasn't good and that is tasted off. He took it from me and just said "ok". No offering to refund us the price of the meal (my daughter took one bite), no "I'm so sorry about that, can we make anything else for you?" ... nothing.
We will NEVER step foot back in that...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Boiling Dragon. The staff was very nice. We ordered multiple items on this visit. Some items were better than others, but worth giving them another try. The Peking Chicken Bao was absolutely delicious and would go back just for that. I also had the garlic noodles with chicken. I would have liked for the noodles to be a little more juicier with more chicken, but I still liked them. Some liked the eggrolls and some didn't. I don't eat pork, so I can't provide my input. Those that didn't like the eggrolls didn't like the taste of the pork. The Dragon Seafood Fried Rice was liked by everyone. The catfish was not a big hit with the family describing it as fishy. Those who are familiar with the term know what I'm taking about. There is an option to add additional items to the Catfish Basket and my family member added the shrimp which was very good. One thing that I must point out is that generous portions are given. You definitely get your money's worth. Also, when I placed my order in the restaurant, I told the gentleman I would return shortly since it would be about 10-15 to prepare everything. Before I could make it back, I received a courtesy call letting me the order was ready. That's great...
