I have been waiting for about a year now to try Beer Hog. Unfortunately, I don't get down to the Oak Mountain/Pelham area that much, but this place was definitely worth the wait.
Beer Hog reminds me of the Casual Pint but it is much more expanded and appealing with a lot more beers on tap. Plus, the place has more of a neighborhood microbrew feel than the Casual Pint in Hoover, which is quiet small.
We crashed the place around 7 PM on a Saturday night and it was slammed packed. There was a great cover band and about 50 beers on tap along with wine and canned beer offerings. Bonus tip - if you are into IPAs, please try Ghost in the Machine - it was amazingly good.
While I did not try the food (we had reservations at the oyster house next store, which was also excellent), the pizzas looked tasty and quite a few people were ordering them.
The side patio and back game room were also nice additions to the place. Also, Beer Hog is located in a former elementary school building and shares the suite space with several other businesses. The building is a trip as a lot of the old school structure (bathrooms) still have not be retrofitted for adults, so the sinks are nearly on the floor.
This is definitely one of the better bars in the greater Birmingham metro area. ...
Read moreNice place - Bartenders seem nice. During the entire 1.5 hours I was there the bathrooms that the beer joint uses is in a hallway in the event center. Closed. They forced you to walk to the end of the complex to use the restroom which was quite a long way. After a couple of trips I felt like I had been on a hike. The people cleaning the bathroom didn't seem to care a bit about making the patrons walk as they talked on their phone instead of cleaning. A bathroom should not take 1.5 hours. Also HOT BEER! The beer is not cold. I guess it's just the way they do it. But the beer is barely cold. When asked the response was "well we don't use chilled glasses that might be it" and "ah heck you can probably taste it better a little warmer" - So I'm 55 - I was legal to drink at 18. I've had a few beers in my time. I know how cold beer is suppose to be. We left. Went somewhere with cold beer... So I don't care what kind of experts they think they are. Warm beer sucks! Bathrooms a...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place but it was lackluster at best. I asked the bartender if they had any blondes or lagers but all she had to offer was guiness blonde.
I didn't realize til halfway through my visit all of the beers and what type they are is listed on the wall, would have been more help than the bartender had I known.. I finished my first beer and waited around 10 minutes to get a second, the bartenders seemed more interested in looking at their phones than their jobs.
The pizza was quite good but a bit overpriced. By the time I finished my beer I waited another 7 minutes or so before deciding I would be better off somewhere else and got my check. They were closing early for bad weather anyways but it wasn't even raining..
This place seems like it could be nice but service was really bad and they...
