Okay, this place WOWED me. I came into it having pretty high hopes but my hopes were EXCEEDED.
I picked up my order so this is all from a takeout experience, and the fact that takeout hotpot could be this good is seriously unbelievable.
What I ordered: Curry Hot Pot (Very spicy), Kimchi Dumpling Hot Pot (very spicy) and the garlic pork belly appetizer.
Garlic Pork Belly: Absolutely delicious. The flavor here is just phenomenal. If you like garlic, you'll love this. It's super garlicky, with thin-sliced pieces of pork. It's a little oily, but in a good way and goes FANTASTIC with some rice!
Kimchi dumpling hot pot: Wow. The broth? The broth is so unbelievably good. It's honestly hard to describe. The flavor of the broth is super rich, and mixed with all the seafood it just has this amazing umami flavor. Coupled with the sour kimchi pieces it really just has an explosion of flavor. I couldn't believe how amazing the broth flavor was. The toppings were a plenty (I asked for no mushrooms since I don't like them) and it was a TON of pork slices, and everything else. Definitely enough for two meals. Even though I picked the "very spicy" option, it doesn't seem very spicy. There's definitely spice in it, and I think it was an okay heat level, but I'm also a bit of a spice-head so it's hard to judge. I'd probably try the "Extremely spicy" level next time.
Curry Hot Pot: Similar to the other hot pot the broth in this one is just incredible. Really nice broth with a slight curry flavor (I kind of wish there was a little more curry flavor to it, honestly) but still really rich and flavorful. Again, plenty of slices of pork and other toppings in this like fishcake that make it super hearty. Again, I picked "very spicy" but there's not much heat to it for my personal tastes, but still has a lot of rich and satisfying umami flavor to the broth.
This place really is a gem. I had pretty decent expectations for the place from the reviews but I didn't expect to be FLOORED by the items I got! I haven't been this enthusiastic about food I've picked up from a restaurant in a long time. I think my favorite was the kimchi dumpling vs the curry but you honestly cannot go wrong with either.
If you like hot pot, and you like really good broth, you can't go wrong with this place. (Plus, the place seemed very clean and nice when I went in so great...
Read moreGARBAGE SERVICE! Server or the female owner started arguing and fighting with us to the point that she cussed at us. We are regulars at the Miami Location. Went in there with my husband and 5 years old niece, she was already in a bad mood and started giving us attitude from the moment we sat down. We told her that we don't eat seafood and asked her if we can substitute for something else. She told us there will be an up-charge if we changed more than 3 items. I started questioning her for the extra charge because the Miami location doesn't do that. She became very angry and impatient, and told us "then why are you here, go back to the Miami Location. Don't eat here!" We should've never stepped in there in the first place as the whole restaurant was empty and we were the only customers in there. So do yourself a favor and do what she said go to the Miami location, unless you want that Karen dine-in experience lol
Edited review: I’ve been to multiple times to the Miami location and you DO NOT have the same policies. We never had a problem there. All I asked was to change the seafood out because of allergies, nothing crazy. In fact, we walked out and drove to the Miami location, we had a wonderful time there! Please do not try to sugar coat your staff’s behavior, attitude, and extremely poor customer service. Or should I say the owner, bc only owner would say “ don’t eat here!” Looking at ur past negative reviews, looks like others have the same complaints with ur establishment. REFER TO YOUR CAMERA and you would know who treated who without respect. The fact that you turning the table on blaming the customers for ur staff’s poor service says a lot...
Read moreI have had the pleasure of eating in restaurants like this a few times. I actually like the ones where they bring you the broth and you select what you throw in there, buffet style, a lot better. The food here was fresh and it didn’t taste bad at all, but the ingredients in their soups could sometimes be a little foreign for our Americanized palate. I’m more daring than most when it comes to new food items, but event I felt like I didn’t know what a lot things were. That said, I told my server that I didn’t want certain items in my soup. In the buffet style concept, which I prefer, I could put as many or little items as I wanted, and do it as many times as I wished. It all boils down to preference, but all in all, in the absence of the buffet style, Hi Pot served me fresh and tasty food.
The service started very weak. The server didn’t ask us if we had eaten there before. He didn’t explain that the soup came with a side of rice. He wasn’t the greatest server at all; however, another employee, who looked more like a manager or even owner, after asking us how we heard about the place, explained everything in detail and even humored us a bit. Great personality, to say the least.
The restaurant itself was clean and well maintained. The set up was different than most restaurants, but it definitely served its purpose. Taking everything into account, and after examining all the evidence 😬😂, I would...
