Villa Francesco's — Restaurant in Pennington

It was noon on Saturday and in the area. Saw all the good reviews so we decided to give lunch a try. And a try it was. The manager/owner was very accommodating but my wife felt our server cold and unwelcoming. They didn't have the air conditioning on, it was very hot and humid and maybe that's why the so-called panini was just about inedible. You can see from the photos that there's nothing crisp or interesting about that sandwich. Basically just white bread that's lightly toasted on one side with limp warm salad on the side and no seasoning on the chicken. The chicken parm was decent although I felt that the sauce might have been canned instead of a nice fresh marinara. The owner was nice enough to remove the panini from the bill claiming that he's never had any complaints and that's the way they make it, sad to say. The chicken parm tasted good but nothing special. Having lived in central NJ my whole life, I consider Villa Francesco’s to have the best Italian food around. We rarely eat at the restaurant anymore, so I cannot speak to the service and atmosphere strongly (my wife and I used to love to go sit outside before it became more common after COVID!) but the food is always good. It was almost a year before I had tried anything on the standard menu because their specials were always so amazing! Now, we order takeout and cater regularly. Everything is delicious. The staff here were incredibly rude, especially the waitress and manager. None of them hardly said two words. I ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap and it was not what I ordered- more like mashed up chicken in a wrap that had zero taste so I told them that I do not like it and they argued with me telling me how they have never any complaints about that and not sure if they can take it off of the check! I told them I took one bite and I refuse to pay for something that is nothing like any other Buffalo chicken wrap I've had. The manager then said, "Whatever!"
