My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at South Market during our honeymoon, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The food was nothing short of amazing. I ordered the Blackened Redfish served on collard greens and corn grits, and speaking as a redneck from Arkansas, I was blown away. The flavors were rich and comforting, and I’d never thought I’d love plain ol' collard greens and grits like this, but here we are. They were amazing. My wife, who has celiac disease, had the gluten-free seafood basket. The taste was so incredible, that you couldn’t even tell it was gluten-free. In fact, I had to double check... and it tasted just like the real deal! The service took everything to the next level though. Our waiter, Dean, was phenomenal. He was friendly, informative, and was SO knowledgeable when it came to navigating all of the gluten-free options (Which there are TONS of). The General Manager, Merie, went above and beyond. She welcomed us warmly and even surprised us with a gluten-free peach cobbler to celebrate our honeymoon. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. The atmosphere was high-class without being stuffy, and elegant yet comfortable, the kind of place where you can celebrate something special and still feel right at home. In short, South Market delivered a five-star experience. Between the incredible food and the outstanding hospitality, we’ll be recommending it to everyone we know and we’ll definitely be back! This was by far the best dining experience we've ever had!

Nice restaurant overall. We arrived at 1030am on a Sunday, and at that time it wasn't overly crowded. During our visit, it quickly filled up. Staff was polite but nothing extra. It took over 10 minutes to get greeted or even acknowledged when entering the restaurant and waiting on a table. Several staff members saw us enter and wait to be addressed. Some even came to the front area but didn't even say a word as they walked away. I guess it was someone else's problem. The water glasses at our table had more than a reasonable amount of spots on them. It is unappealing when wait staff touches the rim of the glass that they expect you to drink from. Food was good. I had the shrimp and grits which was tasty. I was a little disappointed on presentation. (NOT exactly what I expected but it was good.) The restaurant is at a great location and beautifully decorated. Unfortunately when it starts to fill up with people, it is a SERIOUS struggle to maintain a conversation because it is EXTREMELY loud. It was difficult to understand people at our own table due to everyone speaking louder and typical dining noises. It's almost unreasonable. Just frustrating when you plan a brunch to catch up or celebrate and you can't even hear people at your own table. Undecided if we'd return. Just overall not that impressed.

Honestly one of my favorite spots for brunch and to get great oysters! Bottomless mimosas offered every day which is awesome when you work in the service industry. The view is absolutely beautiful. UPDATE! Went today..Monday mind you.. service was heavily lacking. Wasn't even busy or I wouldn't be posting. Ordered oysters, they were ok, the sampler plater was very inconsistent on toppings. Ordered 1/2 a dozen raw also... The 2 orders took wayyy too long for how dead they were.. I still appreciate they offer bottomless mimosas throughout the week thinking for service industry people and vacationers. This used to be me favorite brunch spot but that has changed. An average spot with a great view if the ocean! **I Appreciate your response. This post was updated when I had a chance to do so. We did not go on the same day that this post was updated. I fully understand families and workers needs, but being in the service industry you still need to do a good job. It's my personal experiences and how we felt after it was all said and done. We'll be back to support sometime, just giving constructive criticism. When choosing where to spend money and enjoy time, there are certain things to consider. And have honestly had better service at other places at this time. Thank you

This was my first and last experience at this restaurant. I saw my waitress twice when she took my food order, and when she brought my check, she wasn’t the person who brought my food out. I expected her to come by my table at some point to make certain my order was accurate but she did not. My order was not accurate. I ordered gulf shrimp tacos. I said it twice I received fish tacos which, by the way, was more expensive than the shrimp by $2. The fish was very fishy tasting and a bit rubbery. Had she brought my order out or checked on us I would’ve told her my order was wrong. However, I was willing to keep it even though the fish was more expensive as long as she gave me the price for the shrimp because that is what I ordered but since she did not come back to check on us I had to eat and pay for something that was more expensive than what I ordered and I would’ve also asked for a sauce to help drown out the fishy taste. The only reason why I did not give this restaurant a one is because my friend ordered the creole omelette, and it was a very large portion, and she enjoyed the sauce. Her potatoes were cold. I did not enjoy my meal at all. It was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in Pensacola. For a meal to cost as much as this, $21 and change including tax, I should’ve received something other than a side of tortilla chips the very least should’ve been offered a side of fries, I could have went to Wendy’s and ordered a fish sandwich and been more satisfied than I was. I left disappointed, thirsty, hungry and irritated that I spent $21 with tax included on a meal. The tacos were also soggy by the time they came to my table so the bottom fell out of both of them and I really never ate the taco itself just the fish so basically I paid for two rubbery fishy tasting pieces of fish and a handful of tortilla chips. I paid $23 and change because I did leave her a small tip even though I didn’t feel she deserved one, but she did at least take my order. I got half a glass of water compared to the normal size glass you get in most restaurants and normally I drink at least three glasses of water with my meal. My suggestion to this restaurant is you need to educate your staff on how to properly take an order, check on their patrons, make certain that their water glasses are full, and they receive more than one glass if wanted and ask them if they would like anything else with their meal. I would also recommend that this restaurant change this dish and stop serving a side of tortilla chips in an upscale restaurant with a meal this expensive you guys can at least splurge on some stinking potatoes, salad, broccoli or something. In this economy nobody has money to waste and I just wasted a lot and this was supposed to be my birthday lunch now my friend and I will redo my birthday lunch at a better restaurant, because this was not it. I do not normally leave reviews on restaurants however, I don’t expect to ever return to this restaurant I know I certainly will not pick it. But I do want a restaurant that is semi upscale to know that they need to improve their business. That’s why I’m...

Well where to even begin. We decided to give this place a second chance after trying them for brunch a few years ago. Needless to say we will not be returning to this place ever again and what a waste of a date night it was. To start off we had a reservation so there was no issue getting a table right at the start of dinner so there were maybe a few other tables sat, it wasn't packed at this point. When we were sat we waited probably a good 10 mins before a server came over to acknowledge us and give us water and take our drink order, but he let us know he wasn't our server and was just helping her out. When yet another server brought our drinks out our server FINALLY came over to get our appetizer order. We wouldn't see her again for maybe another 10-15 mins. She came back to get another drink order before our food came out. When we finally got our appetizer it was less of a flatbread and more of a thin crust pizza. When our entrees finally came out they were ok not great and definitely not worth $50 for a steak that tasted like anything you can get at a chain steakhouse. We never saw our waitress again after she took our drink order, but we could see her running around to her other tables and the bar. We had to finally get the attention of the host to ask for our last drink. He came back with it and apologized and said she was helping behind the bar. That last drink tasted more like juice and less like a cocktail, like it had little to no alcohol. When we finally had to get the attention of yet another server so we could get our check because at this point we had been there for over an hour and a half for a dinner that shouldn't have taken so long and had elsewhere to be. We get our check and are sitting there waiting for our waitress to come by and get our check, we ended up stopping the bus boy to get someone to pay. I wish I could say we were the only table experiencing this issue but by the look of it all tables were having issues. The table behind us had to stop a server after 15 mins of being sat to even get water. Several of the tables next to us kept getting the wrong menus. We couldn't get out of there fast enough and will not...

Here was the situation. We showed up 20 minutes before closing on a Tuesday night. The place was deserted, and I noticed right off what a mess it was, and how it had no decor. The walls had paint that was scratched and scratched up. There was nothing on our table – no salt, pepper, no silverware. We should have left, but the reviews were good. The decor doesn’t effect the food, but it does affect the experience. The place had NO ambience because every table had a bright white light hanging over it. It was like being at a waffle house because the lights were so bright!

All the same -we order quickly. My father ordered the fish “basket“ and I got a Strawberry Fields salad. The salad was good – the greens were fresh. The chicken was good, no complaints there. My dad‘s meal, however, was pretty sad . It was about eight bites (literally) of fried fish with a small portion of french fries. It was a $23 meal. It literally fit on a salad plate. He felt it tasted odd and that the breading was “off”, and it had no presentation to it whatsoever – basically just thrown on a plate. A small plate

So I went and found our waitress and told her nicely that he was very unhappy and didn’t like his food, and that she needed to either get him something else. She followed me over to the table, told him that everything that they had was gluten-free and so it might not taste exactly right. She did not offer to give him anything else, nor did she offer to comp it. My dad did not want to create trouble – so he told her just bring him some ketchup. She did, but made no more attempts to fix the problem and disappeared. He did eat the meal because, at that time at night, we were pretty much stuck. It truly was the worst meal that we’ve had since we’ve been in Pensacola.

When the bill came, it had 10% off. In truth, if they had comped the meal, I would not have given a review like this. But they didn’t and really didn’t seem to care. We are in Pensacola on vacation and have a lot of places to choose from. This is not one that we would recommend unfortunately. Do better.

I will have to say it for somebody who has to have gluten-free – it’s probably a good...
