You can have a schooner while on a Schooner!
That word gets silly looking after you type it a few times. A schooner is a tall glass of beer and it is also a big ship with two or more masts. So you could, in theory, have a beer while on a ship. I think I have a new bucket list item!
I have drove by this place many times and finally tried it out! I was split on whether it should be labeled a Bar/Pub or a Restaurant since it is a fine split on what it is, but a Restaurant is what it shall be labeled.
So I have been here twice as of this writing. One visit was with a friend for a beer/burger lunch and the other time was with other times.
On the lunch visit, my friend and I got a burger and beer to enjoy during lunch. I don’t remember much about the burger, which is a good sign that it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t floor me, so I would say it did it’s job of filling me up without disappointing me.
The second visit was a full dinner with some friends. I think I got the burger again, which was great but nothing to write home about. Each time I have gone, we have had great service with a friendly staff.
If I recall right, there isn’t much nautical stuff inside, despite the name referring to a ship term. The interior is more of a normal pub feel. It has some sports and alcohol memorabilia up on the wall.
Now the cool secret about this place is that it is attached to Gebby’s Family Restaurant. From what I am told, Gebby serves breakfast and early lunch. Then they shut down and Schooner’s takes over the lunch and dinner portion of the day. I will be doing a blog post for Gebby’s here soon!
Schooner’s has pretty good food and is a friendly place to go. You wouldn’t be disappointed if you and some friends swung by to catch some brews and sports while eating
Now if you are fun, you could try and have a schooner while ON a Schooner. But if you can’t, you can at least have a schooner IN Schooner’s! Close...
Read moreI tried Schooners for the first time tonight after years of living in Peoria. I really hate to say this but I’m not interested in coming back as much as I wanted to love it. :( Staff was very nice and accommodating, but the food was just not great.
We ordered carry out and arrived before it was ready, but the order was lukewarm at best. We ordered the beer battered chicken, kids grilled cheese, corn fritters and onion rings.
The onion rings and corn fritters were the stars of the meal for sure. The chicken looked so good and was intended as the main course, but while it was crispy and juicy, it was totally flavorless as were the fries. With how good it all looked and the great flavor of the onion rings, im genuinely surprised by the severe lack of any flavor in the chicken whatsoever.
On the upside, again, the onion rings and fritters were very good. Some of the best onion rings I’ve had. Id never even heard of a corn fritter until tonight, but ordered some based on the love they get in reviews. I expected them to be savory, but it was very sweet. Almost like corn doughnuts, which sounds horrendous but it’s actually super good. I just wish the chicken and fries had at least a touch of flavor and this would have been a much better experience.
Finally, I definitely don’t intend to bash the establishment. They’re all very kind people and it’s not that the food was terrible. Half of it was great. I’m just not thrilled with spending close to $50 to only like the...
Read moreIf you have a hankering for a pork tenderloin fit to feed four, head straight to Schooner’s. A small bar and dining area greets you with a sports theme and large screen TVs for game viewing. Service is fast and the staff is Uber friendly. The onion rings are heavenly. A light batter fried to crispy perfection. I had the fish sandwich, which had a generous portion of flaky white fish that was deep fried. I had the dinner salad as well, which was disappointing as it only had iceberg lettuce and croutons. It would be nice to have some other vegetables in the salad. My brother had the pork tenderloin, which was gargantuan. He said it was tender inside and crispy outside. My mother opted for the cheeseburger, which had a generous patty on toasted bun. Our bill for 4 sandwiches, an order of onion rings, and two coffees was $85 with 20% tip. Keep in mind that the tenderloins are two full meals and my fish sandwich was enough for two...
