Johan's Pastry Shop — Restaurant in Petoskey

We were given a sample of white cake that was as white as wedding cake batter, before we ordered a birthday cake. But when given a birthday cake, it had a yellow batter. We were told they don’t make yellow cakes on the day the replacement cake was supposed to be ready (as a white cake). However, when we called the day we cut into the birthday cake, a female worker said, “the yellow cake is as good as the white cake.” We did not receive another cake, but were given a refund. I think they are over-priced and the chocolate cake is not moist (purchased one on a different occasion). We ordered a white birthday cake because we were told it is moist (but it wasn’t white)...we are disappointed in their professionalism. Why couldn’t the worker tell us on the day we cut the cake and called that they don’t make...

I've eaten their day olds from the gas station near me. They're really good so I decided to visit them directly in the Petoskey store. I browsed their selection and was considering buying some. I commented that there weren't any prices on any of the donuts and the man behind the counter seemed annoyed a new customer would ask for a price. When asked about allergen information not only was I refused but they replied dismissively "we don't do that here". For a first impression it left a lot to be desired. If the employees don't care about keeping a clean or organized store it's not worth the risk exposing my partner to cross contamination. I told them "Thank you, have a nice day" and heard rude muttering behind my back as I left without making a purchase. I'll probably stop buying...

My son and i stopped at a gas station on our way downstate last year and found these huge, amazing doughnuts. We tried to go there again when my husband was in the hospital down that way. We found the gas station but they were out of doughnuts. Later in the week my husband was getting discharged. I saw a small pastry shop and thought I'd pick him up a doughnut. When i walked in i knew immediately this was the source of those amazing doughnuts! Every case full of every doughnut, cookie and pie imaginable! They cost a little more than most places, but doughnuts are about double the size of others. I'll stop in again next time I'm down that...
