So I asked for recommendations earlier while I was out in Philly, and specifically asked about Angelos. On average, the top 3 recommendations were Angelos, JRP and Del Rossi's Cheesesteak & Pizza CO; with a few Randoms in the middle. All the comments talking about Angelos, I felt if I really wanted the best cheesesteak, it was Angelos. So, Angelos it was. Prior to this visit, the "best" I could compare to was "Cheesesteak and CO" in Maryland where I live. However, While Angelos was SEEMINGLY edging the stats, Del Rossis was right there in recommendations. I was warned, just got to Del Rossis. The wait at Angelos is silly. Being stubborn, I didn't listen and went to Angelos because of all the hype. Well. Sure enough, the line was out the door and wrapped around the building. 3 kids, a pregnant wife. F that... lol So I googled the photos of Angelos "Cheesesteaks", the photos of Del Rossi's "Cheesesteaks", and they looked EXTREMELY identical. Remembering a comment said, just go to Del Rossi's. It's the same thing, almost no line, you can eat inside and they TAKE CARD, not just cash. Sure enough, I threw Del Rossi's in the GPS. It was only about 8 minutes from from Angelos if you drive fast and hit a few pedestrians. As soon I pulled up, I was greeted with front row parking (probably got lucky), nobody in line (probably got lucky), and scored the first table (probably got lucky 🤣), and Ordered a Cheesesteak, chicken Cheesesteak, fries and Pizza. Long story short, I'm not getting into what it tasted like because I don't care that much. But, it was easily the best cheesesteak I've had. Ever. It looked like Angelos. I'm guessing tasted simular to Angelos, and I didn't even need to wait in line. The customer service was stellar, and the gentleman who rang us up was amazing. Easily a 10/10. My taste buds don't recognize the difference from an 8.5 rating to a 10. I'm not that picky. I eat Maryland subs. Lol You get a 3, 6 or 10. Their food is a 10. Highly recommend. I'd just skip Angelos and go there. If Angelos doesn't have a line, maybe one day. But it's hard to beat Del Rossi's with their front row parking, fast preparation, quality customer service, and seemingly similar food to Angelos. AND THEY TAKE CARD, NOT JUST CASH!!! Del Rossi's Cheesesteak & Pizza CO. ROCKS!!!! ā¤ļø **Edit** Yes. Pizza "looks" burnt. A simple Google search shows it's done on purpose and actually a preference for many (I believe Angelos does the same thing).Which is why it's done in this unique fashion, seemingly. I can say that despite how it looks, it delivers great flavor and I absolutely loved the pizza, too. šŸ™‚

Del Rossi’s Cheese WE DUN USE NO SAUCE Steaks are the best in the world. I can promise you. The sandwich starts with a beautiful seeded(optional) crusty roll. You don’t have to HOLD THE SAUCE. This place doesn’t make up for tasteless meat with a sugary sauce. And EVERY OTHER shop I’ve been in from coast to coast, and several had great steak and cheese and carmelized onions but the roll was soggy with watery grease. The cheesesteak roll in the foto was not wet or greasy and you can see it was take out and sat in my car to get back to the hotel. That is enough to rocket their sandwich towards the top. When you can pick from 6 cheeses and it’s put on real steak and enrobe it in their heavenly roll with carmelized onions …. How can I describe the feeling? I know, I got this… it’s like when you’re at a Springsteen concert you and ignore your watch ā€˜cause YOU DON’T WANT THE CONCERT TO END! You don’t want think about the last bite of a Del Rossi’s cheesesteak …. ā€˜cause you just want to keep enjoying the textures and rich flavor more and more. Every time I go there are drivers picking up pizzas faster than I can count. They look and smell incredible. Every time I go there I intend to try a couple small pizzas! But the words out of my mouth are ā€œ1 with cooper on seeded to goā€. Hello, my name is BillytheKid and I’m a Del Rossi’s cheesesteak addict.

I read the Inky article yesterday about the new in-house roll bakery. Kudos to the owner of Angelo's, Danny, for unselfishly advising Mr. Patel, the owner of Del Rossi's. The roll was, indeed, a work of art. Crunchy crust (not as hard as Angelo's) that was chewy inside and had a perfect hinge. This roll would stand up for hours, even wrapped. Beef was chopped unevenly (in a GOOD way) with coarse and fine shreds beautifully blended with the Cooper and onions. No gristle. My companion Azi and I agreed a sprinkle more salt would have brought the beef up a notch. We agreed that next time we may go American (perhaps we're just tiring of Cooper? In any event, the roll was the star, and would have been delicious on it's own. We were both more than satisfied with the amount of food in the steak, but forced ourselves to sample a slice of Brooklyn pizza. Super thin and crispy crust. Nice fresh Mozz and the sauce was rich with tomato (but not sweet.) Very limited seating (no table or counter.) Azi is a magician at balancing a sammy with no spillage. The staff was super friendly, more than helpful, and comprised of articulate, smart young people. Very genuinely hospitable. The investment in roll infrastructure was obviously a large one, but should pay dividends in elevating Del Rossi's to the exclusive club of "destination" steak/pizza purveyors.

Del ā€œRossi’sā€ is a gem nestled in the heart of the city, offering an exquisite array of Italian-American cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds and leaves patrons craving for more. As a seasoned food enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of indulging in their culinary delights, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth raving about. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Long Hot Special Pizza, a mouthwatering masterpiece that left me speechless. The combination of long hots and sausage atop a perfectly baked crust was a symphony of flavors, each bite delivering a delightful balance of spice and savory goodness. The long hots provided a subtle heat that danced harmoniously with the richness of the sausage, creating a culinary sensation that lingered long after the last slice was devoured. It's a pizza that demands to be savored and cherished, a true testament to Del ā€œRossi’sā€ commitment to excellence in every bite. But the delights didn't end there. I also had the pleasure of sampling their Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak, a culinary marvel that elevated the classic cheese steak to new heights. Tender strips of chicken, bathed in tangy buffalo sauce, were nestled within a warm, toasted roll and generously topped with gooey cheese. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, with the perfect balance of heat from the buffalo sauce and creaminess from the cheese. It was comfort food at its finest, a dish that left me feeling satisfied and utterly content. And let's not forget about the Chicken Cheese Steak Hoagie, a true crowd-pleaser that exemplifies Del ā€œRossi’sā€ dedication to quality ingredients and impeccable craftsmanship. Juicy strips of chicken, grilled to perfection, were nestled within a fluffy hoagie roll and adorned with a medley of fresh vegetables and savory cheese. The flavors melded together beautifully, creating a harmony of taste and texture that left me craving more with each bite. It's a dish that embodies the essence of comfort food, providing a hearty and satisfying meal that's perfect for any occasion. In conclusion, Del ā€œRossi’sā€ is a culinary haven that never fails to impress. From their delectable Long Hot Special Pizza to their mouthwatering Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak and Chicken Cheese Steak Hoagie, every dish is a testament to their commitment to quality, flavor, and satisfaction. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or just looking for a delicious meal, Del ā€œRossi’sā€ is sure to exceed your expectations and leave you coming...

It’s a very good cheesesteak on a very good roll. Since Del Rossi asked me to review, I will. But has to be completely honest: a $20 cheesesteak is wild. Am well aware of the externalities that cause it to balloon to $20 for a single. Still, pretty crazy. The fries were awful. Sorry guys, they’re not good. And don’t complement the cheesesteak well. Lastly, I know DR is a Cooper place. Part of their ethos. But not being able to have whiz as an option soured me a bit — even if I know whiz isn’t real cheese.

Is this better than Pats & Genos? 100% yes. Del Rossi’s is a very good cheesesteak. The $20 isn’t a total anomaly: plenty of places are priced similarly. Doesn’t make it (completely) right.

Would I recommend you try their steak? Yes. Think there’s a real chance someone might consider it one of the best in the city. Would I recommend you try the fries? No. Overpriced, bad tasting and too many. (Sounds like a bad Woody Allen joke!)

For Philadelphians — I.e., non-tourists — think this is a nice lil tucked away spot. But it’s really hard to ignore a $27+ bill for a two items. Albeit, the fried onions and the roll greatly complemented the steak. In reality, I’d likely give this 3.75/5.0. Since that’s not an option, I’ll round up to 4, since the steak was the ā€œmain course.ā€ if the fries were better, I’d be contemplating 4 or 5. Since they were what they were, I originally had DR’s as a 3-star. Think that’s too harsh. The cheesesteak, roll, cheese and onions were all 4āļø or better, quality wise.

Ok, know that’s a lot of nuance and text for a cheesesteak review, lol sorry. But that’s my honest opinion. Thank you for a nice experience, Del Rossi’s. I’ll likely come back. Although, it certainly won’t be my ā€œold faithfulā€/go-to steak place, despite being within walking distance from my house. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
