Went to Penn's Landing for Mother's Day and spotted the Philly Tacos food truck so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the crunchy chicken tacos for $12, but the cashier tried charging me $16. I had to explain to the guy 4 times that the price on the truck was $12! You work a food truck and don't know your own prices??? My order came out in less than a minute, which I thought was suspicious. When I looked at my plate, the plate was covered in lettuce, they were actually taquitos instead of traditional tacos, and the inside had nothing but shredded boiled chicken (no sauce, no cilantro, no cheese...just CHICKEN!). I took one bite and spit the rest out. The chicken had absolutely no seasoning, no salt, no flavor, NOTHING! It tasted like they boiled plain chicken, shredded it and rolled it in a taquito. These bland taquitos makes Taco Bell taste like taco heaven!!! I had my brother taste one just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and he spit his out as well!!! I went back to the food truck for a refund, both the cashier and cook looked surprised when I told them the tacos had absolutely no flavor. They hesitated at first in issuing my refund, but when they saw that I wasn't playing, they refunded my cash. Maybe the chef forgot to season the meat, maybe the Mother's Day crowd was too much for them to handle, but when you mess up a first impression and aren't even professional enough to apologize for the screw up, that's when I draw the line. Needless to say I will not be coming back to this food truck. Now I see why everyone on the line ordered the...
Read moreIt took me a very long time to find a good quality taco in my last town. When I finally did, that taco was being served out of a humble truck parked in front of a dingy gas station where down-on-their luck folks would linger and pick cigarette butts out of trash cans. Took about 30 mins to drive there, and I was happy to do it.
Now, having just moved to Point Breeze, I find Philly Tacos at an unreasonably convenient 400 feet from my door. It's adorably decorated with happy-looking plants and a fun luchador mask collection hanging on the cheery azure walls. Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to dine in this time around, but it seems like a nice family-run environment. I had no complaints about the quick & friendly service. Most importantly, they're serving up a damn fine al pastor taco packed with fresh & flavorful ingredients.
Loved it!

Update: Upping my original review from 4 to 5 stars for two reasons. One â the owner Carlos helped me out of a bind tonight, showing genuine neighborly kindness and hospitality. Two â I tried the pure creamy crunchy sugar cinnamon indulgence that is their churro. I would give this taco joint 6...
Read moreJust tried this place for the first time. I had the vegetarian tacos and they were delicious. The tortillas had great taste and texture and the mix of mushrooms, cilantro, shredded lettuce, and pumpkin flowers was balanced nicely. In the container there was a slice of lime and red and green salsas, both of which had a decent medium kick.
Mexican cuisine is my favorite and I'll definitely be putting this place in my regular rotation. Californians are notorious for being snobs about Mexican food, but South Philly has a bunch of great Mexican food at different price points and different atmospheres. This is one of the better spots in South Philly to sit and enjoy tacos, quesadillas, or a burrito.
It's a focused menu focused on taqueria classics with quality ingredients. I ordered online and loved that I didn't have to create an account, but could checkout as a guest. The space itself was small, but well-decorated. I'd definitely go back and eat inside. The cashier, who might be one of the owners, was friendly...
