Wisshickon Brewing Company opened on April Fool's Day 2017, and I was there, a little apprehensive that it was an elaborate ruse. Instead, I grew steadily more in love as continual improvements occurred, and JJ and I discovered our favorite neighborhood watering hole... which eventually became the site of our wedding about a year and a half later.
The taproom has a homey tavern feel, with plenty of seating for you, your kids, and your dog (yes, you read that correctly). At any given time, a few super-friendly bartenders are hawking the beers on tap and will assure you that you can't go wrong with any of them, whether it's a Devil's Pool double IPA, a Wigwam pale ale, a Kelpius Cave Belgian, or a Raven Hill porter. The dork in me goes gaga for the clever brew names, which all tie back to the Wissahickon Creek/Park area.
If you need some food to wash down your drink, WBCO maintains a relationship with a rotating cadre of food trucks to satisfy any craving. WBCO also opens the brew room for customers to enjoy every sporting event on a big projector (ESPECIALLY the Eagles and the Nittany Lions), yoga, Quizzo, cornhole, and private events (read: our wedding). The beer garden/deck is a cool place to enjoy a pint and watch the weekly cornhole tournament, weather-permitting.
TL;DR: come and drink here. Everyone will greet you as a friend, you'll drink delicious beer/cider/kombucha (or wine!), and you'll leave feeling like you're part...
Read moreWe could not be more grateful to have Wiss Brew in our backyard in East Falls. From the plants and food trucks to the dog-/family-friendly atmosphere, the food and experience are exceptional. Wiss has always been a family favorite in our house, and we feel so grateful to have worked with a favorite vendor. We decided to have our wedding welcome drinks here, and all our friends and family piled into the back room. It was amazing to use the space (both indoor and outdoor) for mingling, and our friends and family spoke about how special the venue and event was all weekend long. Emily made the process incredibly easy, and even though we planned the event last minute, we did not have to do anything other than order some tokens and give encouragement for the food trucks! Sharing Wiss Brew with our friends and family meant that may people walked away wanting to return (if they were local). If you want to have an event that feels like home and makes you walk away smiling, Wiss Brew is the place to be. Dream wedding...
Read moreI want to first say that I just deliver products here for my job. I've never actually come here to drink. But I've been here a lot over the past few years, often during busy hours. The people who own it are really cool and nice and thoughtful. I enjoy them very much. Also, very few other bar or restaurant owners think to offer delivery people a cold drink of water in the summer, or use of their bathroom. They always do. The bar area looks cool, like it's crowded, but not uncomfortably so. And there's yoga sometimes! And trivia I think too. Anyway, go there. It's a cool place. Update since Covid: They're doing a great job of keeping things going with social distancing and all. I never go to bars but I want to start so I can pretend I'm as hip as the customers here. I am not very cool or hipstery, but I feel since the environment is so welcoming and the employees so nice, I might be able to relax despite that. Gonna talk to some friends and see if we can have a night...
