Ah, Flamingo Palace! We love your food! I don’t usually bother to write reviews, but reading all these ungracious reviews, combined with the nasty, repeated vandalism of their bathrooms, has got me wondering if someone is out to sabotage their business. So, here goes!
First, we love the atmosphere of this place. It is quiet and peaceful. You can actually have a conversation. The waitress does not hover over your table every 5 minutes, trying to hasten your departure. She is attentive, refilling water, bringing hot tea, and clearing away dirty dishes to make room for more food on the way! There is a TV, but only in the front, where people who have ordered to-go might sit and wait and watch it; the interior area where the main restaurant is has NO SCREENS! That, in itself, is awesome. Also, they have a charming fish tank, and our kids can amble over there to watch the fish.
Second, the food. We have not had a dish we didn’t like! Their dumplings, down to the dough they use, are entirely made in-house. It’s a nice, thick dough! Those dumplings don’t fall apart! And the sauce is delectable— with a little kick of ginger, which is nice touch. Their soups are delicate (we had the wonton last night) and an ample portion as a starter for a family. The pupu platter is yummy, the crab puffs are a hit..... egg rolls are crispy and light..... so good! We have, in the past, tried their family meal, which comes, I think, with the Flamingo special chicken—- which is delicious!— and a shrimp dish, which is also very good.
Last night we had the mu shu pork and the beef chow fun for entrees. With our soup and appetizers, it was ample for a family of 5. I am a particular fan of the wide flat rice noodles, and so the chow fun was really yummy, and the beef was very tender, with a good ratio of veggies and meat. The mu shu sauce was delicious, and the crepes were light but held their own without falling apart, even when I added extra sauce. We also like their pad Thai and have ordered that several times. And their fried rice is also yummy.
I should add that this place is just north of Pei Wei, which gets a LOT of business! This place is a hidden gem— family owned, and for about 2 dollars more per entree, you get fresher tasting, more interesting dishes, definitely higher quality (has anyone else besides me noticed that Pei Wei has gone down in quality over the years? Their dumplings are a disgusting, deep-fried yuck! And their atmosphere feels frenzied to me.). The Flamingo Palace atmosphere is both family friendly and date-friendly. And, as always, their service is sweet, endearing, gentle, humble, and eager to please. So:
Go to Flamingo Palace! Patronize local businesses that are worth patronizing! And stop vandalizing their bathrooms!!!! Thanks for being our fave Chinese...
Read moreWe just had food delivered from Flamingo Palace. We ordered orange chicken, teriyaki chicken and sweet & sour pork. Every dish tasted like it was days old. The pork resembled the look of a couch that had been left out in the sun for a few years. The orange chicken smelled like a bucket of butt-holes and the teriyaki chicken tasted like licking a hobbit's foot. I am 100% sure that all of the previous reviews that were left on here for this place were written by people who work there. Anyone who has actually eaten there would agree that the food in prison is better. Imagine your parents telling you that they hate you and that you are adopted. Then imagine that everyone you love died. Then imagine that your house burns in a fire and your dog is gay for you. Well take all those emotions and now imagine that when you bundled them into one big ball, they actually had a flavor. Well that flavor would taste better than anything pooped out of this place. Flamingo Palace, you have hurt my taste buds and if they go on strike and never taste again, I wouldn't blame them. I'd blame you. I hate what you did to my stomach....well, no food made it past my mouth to my stomach but I hate the fear you put into my stomach when it thought that the crap you sent would actually go there. Oh, and the egg rolls tasted like the main ingredient was laundry detergent. You shouldn't call them egg rolls. You should call them warning sticks! Because if they were an appetizer, they'd give the diners a good fear that the chef wants them to die. I can't believe you actually charged me money for that! April Fools is over!!! And yet you continue to scam Phoenix. A health inspector would never make it out of there alive. He'd feel like he was on the set of Running Man and no matter where he turned, something was trying...
Read moreReminded me of the Chinese restaurants growing up. Cute, comfortable, had the iconic Chinese restaurant vibe right down to the fish tank. Overall experience was good, food was hit or miss. We got one of the meals for two and it was a great value and good way to try several things. The pu pu platter was good overall, the wonton was just a chip-nothing at all inside so kind of a throwaway but the chicken wings were crispy, egg rolls were tasty, shrimp were decent, & the beef skewers were exceptional. I could've eaten a whole plate of those as a meal I think! We substituted the hot and sour soup and it was okay until I added a good amount of soy sauce and chili oil/paste into it then it was really good. We were pleasantly surprised that we got a good sized bowl of the soup and not just the 2 little cups. It was quite satisfying. Had very high hopes for the meal after the good appetizer and soup courses but the main dishes were not as successful. The Crystal shrimp had nice sized shrimp in it but the dish had zero flavor, none. Sauce was like a thin cornstarch slurry. The other two were alright but expected better based on the beginnings. We had the Flamingo chicken which was fine but not exceptional, would try the general Tso's next time based on the photo on the menu. The shrimp fried rice was pretty good but could have used a bump in flavor too but had lots of shrimp in it. We had food left over and my husband ate it the next day. Loved that they bring you hot tea automatically and the tea...
