HiHi Donuts — Restaurant in Phoenix

My wife and I were in disagreement on this place. I would give it 3, but my wife gave it 5. Overall, the flavor is fine and they don't taste too oily, unlike other donut shops. Their yeast donuts are buttery and soft, similar to Krispy Kreme. Their cake donuts have a texture akin to Hostess donut holes, which I did not like. I think I'd rather go to Bosa or Alien Donuts. Here's a breakdown of some specific donuts from our favorite to least favorite:

Buttermilk bar: while it was good, I think that Bosa donuts as a WAY better buttermilk donut. HiHi's buttermilk bar isn't very sweet and isn't tart enough. My wife liked that it was less sweet, but I just think the flavor was subpar.

Blueberry cake: better-textured than the cinnamon cake.

Glazed: buttery and soft. No residual oil flavor.

Maple: not enough maple. It's just sweet.

Fritter: dry and burned on the edges. Not much fruit flavor. Not tart enough.

Cinnamon cake: tasted like...

Ordered on uber eats. Got a breakfast sandwich and a croissant. Asked that croissant be toasted with butter as i always have. They threw it in a paper bag cold and wrote on the bag “it comes with butter.” Perhaps referring to it being called a butter croissant. If i had gone into the shop and asked for a croissant toasted with butter it wouldnt have been an issue. They cut the croissant toast it and put butter “IN” it. I dont see how thats so hard to comprehend. I am paying for delivery fee, tip, and choosing your shop over others. Can you put the condescending comes with butter stuff elsewhere long enough to just give your customer a nice breakfast? Staff is lazy. Place is obviously losing its charm. Its become a “you get what you get” kind of place and in this economy if they dont want my families business they simply wont get it. RIP the good ol mom and pop...

Tables, counters, and floors were clean and everything seemed organized. Restaurant temperature was just right and decor was quaint, diner-esque. Steady flow of customers coming and going. Parking lot was in okay condition and easy to navigate.

Staff was friendly, attentive, organized, and urgent. Appearance was casual and clean.

Donut bread is phenomenal, so light and not too sweet. Ham and Cheese Croissant was tasty, had a good amount of ham and cheese, flaky, and they even heat it up for you. Jelly Donut was packed with jelly which was flavorful and didn't taste artificial. Cinnamon Roll could've had more cinnamon, but had the perfect amount of glaze. Overall, worth the price.

Next time, I want to try a different savory sandwich, a different donut, and maybe a boba drink.
