This place is insane!!! In a good way. The Non Partisan Pilsner is 19 IBU's. This is really more of a Helles Lager.
The Czechs came up with the 1st pilsner style beer. The German immediately fired their response with their Dortmunder Export style. Dortmunder after the city it was 1st made in that is on the North Sea and it was a "Export" lager. Same as Czech pilsner but less IBU's. The Germans down South in Munich not to be outdone came up with the Helles Lager. Helles is German for lite or straw. Helles lagers are at the 19 IBU's or so. This is not a easy style of beer to find even in cans. If you do find them at BevMo or Total Wine they will have likely sat for a while and be expired. Only PAB in Peoria had the Helles a while back. So to find this on tap, and not pasteurized like the cams might be is a treat in itself.
I 1st had this style beer in the airport in Munich in 2007 or 08. It was actually a microbrewery in the airport. Germans don't play around. It was a unfiltered Helles. It was like liquid bread but not heavy lol....was one of the best beers I have had in my life and I have been to Oktoberfest in Munich. And do a lot of beer festivals.
The Non Partisan lager is right up there with the one at the airport in Munich. One of the best representations of the style I have ever had. Just right where it should be...the brewers have their act together there.
Then there was the food which was REALLY good. The server I believe his name was Zack, my apologies if I got the name wrong. Let's just go with Zack was great, did not look at you funny when you asked him questions about the beer. He knows what he is doing.
And then there are the pinball machines....I did not know about the pinballs til I had to pop the cork and saw them on the left!!!
Just really nice place, good for families as they also have a video game with the classics on it. And did I mention the pinballs?
Good for hanging out with the boys. Area out front to have a vape, not sure about cigs and cigars....
Go support this place they have put in the work to make it...
Read moreI had been eagerly anticipating the opening of a brewhouse in my neighborhood! I wasn't able to visit them, as my job keeps me away a lot.
Yesterday, I finally had the opportunity, and I'm so very glad I went.
Amy was a fantastic server! Friendly, attentive, efficient.
Ordered the seven flight. Started with the IPA. Not too hoppy, which is the biggest reason I'm not a fan of IPAs. Good balance. Brown: Nice rich flavor, no strong aftertaste Porter: A bit more dark and bitter than I prefer, but still tasty Belgian: Delicious, smooth, distinctly Belgian. Very much enjoyed this. Blonde: Eh, mostly men on this one. Not bad, just not really notable. Good basic beer for non beer lovers. Funk: has a very strong Weiss impression, like a shandy. Very refreshing, with definite citrus, and wheat impressions. Most liked beer so far! Hefeweizen: It's a hefe. An excellent hefe, to be sure, but I'm still impressed with the funk. This would be my winter beer, while the funk is my summer
Had the crab dip. VERY creamy, nice blackened top, very rich, delicious.
Ordered the steak sandwich, with both pepperjack, and bleu cheese. MESSY. Spicy, in a great way. The roll it's served on gets a bit too soggy, but is otherwise a great sandwich roll. Served with a metric tonne of fries!
I was given a sample of their bacon jam, and let me tell you, it's fantastic!
The live music was pleasant as well.
Candy, one of the owners, came out after my meal, and spoke to me for a bit about the business, and the challenges they faced getting approval, and also about the deplorable state of pay for cooks in Arizona.
Candy graciously discounted my bill, which will never elicit a...
Read moreMet some friends and family here for lunch on a Sunday. Wasn't too busy and the atmosphere was comfortable. The bar was lined with fans watching football games on the televisions, a few small groups were scattered around the room talking and outside a couple guys were smoking pipes, which smelled great. Very relaxed.
Our server checked in regularly and gave generous samples of the beers we were interested in trying. The brewery's own beers were very good.
Food was great. The pretzel rolls with beer cheese and house mustard were average, but the daily special soup, a green chile and potato mixup, tasted exceptional, despite being very bland visually. The sausage platter was delicious and came with generous portions of sausages cooked to perfection. My wife had the waffle and enjoyed it. Their beef sandwich was very much Philli-style and, although not nearly as good as a real-deal cheesesteak, it was tasty and filling.
The price of food and appetizers are a bit on the high side, which is my only major complaint, if I had to have one. Beers had a wide range of prices, but were generally decent and the limited, but well diversified selection was nice.
I plan to visit North Mountain Brewing Co. again very soon. ...
