So disappointed to now have to stop coming to Lux. I left almost in tears today after yet another horrible encounter with the same rude employee. I’ve looked at other low reviews, and it seems we are all talking about the same girl. I was too hurt and shaken up to ask her name from anyone, but I’m sure you already know who I’m talking about. Her hair color has changed over time, but at this moment she has some purple in her hair. She’s a naturally very rough and aggressive demeanor, and usually is working register at nights. I am very soft spoken and always respectful, but she always finds a way to embarrass me or be plain rude to me. I’ve come here for over 2 years, and it wasn’t until today that I was finally so hurt that I’ve decided I can’t come back. I always love to get hot tea when I’m here and enjoy the free refills. Every time I have come for a refill, they always let me pick a different tea to try if I like for the refill. Since, it’s the same thing - just a new tea bag in hot water. Today, I came up asking to please try the orange blossom, and she immediately started snapping at me and embarrassing me. She said “we never do that, so I don’t know why you’re saying that.” And I said that they always let me in a very nice way, and she said “yea whatever, so what do you want!!”. I was taken aback at her raising her voice at me and asked “what?”. She then went off to get louder at me and had the rudest tone I have ever experienced. She rolled her eyes and talked about me to another coworker as she was making my tea, right in front of me. I was so hurt, I felt like I had to cry. i have never seen someone so rude and hostile. It reminded me of highschool bullies. Please, please - fire her for the sake of your customer service. So hurt and disappointed. The time of this experience was about 8pm today,...
Read moreLux is peak cool, right? The furniture is eclectic, the space industrial, the art subversive, the staff dressed just so, and their inventory is lying about in corners of the shoppe which somehow adds to the cool factor. To top it all off, there is no signage. You just need to know it's there, right off the light rail north on Indian School.
The food, the drinks, the pastries, the bar are all good, if not a little baffling. It's a ballsy concept to have coffee, pastries, $30 dollar steak, and a mixologist all under one roof.
Like any establishment run by humans, there are diverse personalities at work. I've had some of the most helpful and rudest service here, sometimes in the course of the same day. I've had perfect drinks, and poorly mixed chai lattes.
Really the aspect that brings lux down to 4 stars for me is simply that it's a victim of its own success. There are too many people, each trying to use the space in different ways that sometimes are at odds with each other. Can one establishment cater towards the needs of a student studying, old friends reuniting, a crowd watching a soccer game, and a couple at dinner?
I don't know, but we all try to use this space to show we're cool for a few hours and somehow it works?
Edit. My husband informs me that it's rude to knock a place down to four stars for being too popular so instead I'll put it like this: as long as you're down to wander around for a few minutes before you snag a seat, you'll probably have a...
