Did I just give a Taco Bell location five stars?
Yes, yes I did. Here is the reason why:
When I pulled up to this Scottsdale Taco Bell, I was brain-dead tired. It was roughly 9:00 at night (don't quote me--brain-dead tired, remember?). There was the most massive, menacing strip-mall church I have ever seen looming in the background. For a brief moment, I thought I was in some bizarre, waking nightmare. But then I pulled through the Taco Bell drive-thru and up to the second window to pick up my mobile order: a highly customized Protein Power Bowl and an iced coffee, black (see brain-dead tired above).
You see, I have food allergies (celiac disease and severe lactose intolerance), so I am both gluten and dairy free by medical necessity. My Taco Bell dinner order is thus always the same, always submitted through the mobile app or in-store kiosk, and never, ever perfect...until now.
When that big, brown paper bag was handed to me last night, the Protein Power Bowl inside was exactly what I ordered: chicken, seasoned rice, black beans (extra), lettuce (easy), and tomatoes. It was a fast food miracle, right under the watchful eye of that creepy, creepy church and its eery red glow!
The crew at the Scottsdale Rd and Thunderbird Rd Taco Bell got it juuuuuust right, and every bite was hot, fresh, and delicious...

We ordered 3 Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunches, 1 Cantina Chicken Quesadilla Meal (with a soft taco, and cherry Pepsi) as well as sauces and Cinnamon Twists. They did not give us the twists, the tacos were messy, lacking a lot of cheese, cold, and made my boyfriend feel sick after eating. The quesadilla was the bare minimum. Cold solid cheese on less than half of each slice of quesadilla, lackluster chicken portion, which was rubbery and gross. The drink did not come with a straw. We ordered this at around 1am, they close at 1:30. It got to us and left the building at least 10 minutes before close. There's no excuse to treat a customer like this. I used to work fast food, and it sucked when someone came in right before close, but I didn't prepare their food worse than others. Because I’m not a complete jerk. Unacceptable behavior from tonight's crew.

Read moreClosed everyday at 5pm?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!? If you’re having labor problems just pay your workers more!! You always have lines around the buildings yet you can’t hire anyone?
I know you’re hiring at $15 an hour, but this is one of those most expensive neighborhoods in the country… no one around here is going to work for 30k a year when 1 bedroom apartments cost 2k a month here, and they’re not going to drive in from a cheaper neighborhood when gas cost $5 a gallon! You would have to work 6-7 hours at this job to be able to buy one tank of gas!!
Jeez I’ve never seen this insane kind of mis-management. I have a degree in hospitality management, and i can only imagine how terrible it must be for middle management here, trying to inspire a team while experiencing gross negligence from ownership. The franchise owners should be utterly ashamed. Your franchise agreement should be ripped up. You really put shame to the Taco...
