We visited tonight a few minutes before 5pm and were seated right away. There was live music in the back room and that part was crowded, but the area we were in was fairly empty. We sat there around 15-20 minutes before the server came to get our drink order, and we ordered our food right away. The server apologized, and we were understanding since she seemed so busy. It was another 15 minutes before I got my lemonade (which was watered down). I waitressed in high school and college, so I know how busy things can be and didn't complain. It took a long time for the food to arrive, and I had barely taken a bite before the server asked us if everything was ok. My husband had the Dublin Trio sampler, and I got the Firehouse Boxty. I asked for mine without lettuce, tomato, and onion as I have GI issues. I asked for a side of mayo for my fries. The waitress rushed away to wait on the folks in the back room, and passed by a few minutes later, practically throwing the mayo on the table. As I took another bite, I realized that my meal had raw tomato pieces. It was a little annoying, but I just scraped them off. The food was over-salted but still good, although the raw tomato flavor infiltrated my pancake. Even then, I was hesitant to complain--which was good, since I didn't get the chance. The server came back about 20 minutes after we were finished eating and was ready to hand us the check. By that time we were annoyed, as we had hoped to have dessert. She asked if everything was good, and I said, "I'm sorry, but no. I asked for no lettuce, tomato, or onion on my Boxty." I did let her know I still ate it but scraped off the tomato. She said oh, sorry, and went away for about 2 minutes. We decided not to have dessert because it was getting so late and the delays were getting annoying. We thought there would at least be an apology, but the server acted like she didn't care. She was much more interested in the people in the back room (many of whom were probably having alcoholic beverages and would probably tip well). I have never in my life not left a tip. I know what it's like to live on sub-minimum wage and always feel bad for restaurant staff. Well, this time we did not tip. The service was atrocious. I feel like we were treated as second class because we did not have alcohol and were not seated where all the action was. This was our 2nd visit to Molly Maguire's, and we had no issues the first time. So disappointed that I don't think we will go back. It's a shame, since the food is decent. I hate complaining about service, but this was some of the worst service I have ever had! Maybe the restaurant should hire more people as well as train staff not to neglect people. Not sure if the server didn't put my order in correctly or if the chef didn't follow instructions, but the issue with the food was minor compared to the waiting around and lack of...
Read moreAlthough we were seated immediately, the food took a very long to come to our table considering our party of four had some of the simplest orders on the menu. Probably one of the longest waits I’ve had in a downtown Pheonixville restaurant. (And I’ve gone during the first Friday dinner rushes) Through the duration of our visit there were probably only three other parties being served at the same time. Covid has made staffing difficult, so perhaps this wasn’t their fault.
The portions were incredibly small for the price. This is the primary reason why I won’t be coming back. I went back home and made my own little lunch with my boyfriend because we were both still hungry. I’m not sure if this was a rare incident, but again, for the price, everything felt skimpy. If something came with toppings they were scarce.
Also, the menu has “typos”. So if a sub header says “this section comes with fries and a salad” you actually have to ask about each individual item. For example some of the Burger / Sandwich section doesn’t come with a side like it says.
I love the location, atmosphere, and easy access to parking. The inside looks totally awesome. The designers made something very unique and fun to be in. However, the tables aren’t very well lit in some areas which takes away from the great decor. We had a hard time seeing the menus.
I was surprised to see so many great reviews after the experience we had, so perhaps this is an...
Read moreExploring the Phoenixville area, came across Molly Maguire's for lunch and was quite delighted to find a local Irish bar & restaurant in the the area.
We came in for the festivities of the annual Firebird Festival at Veteran Park and explored the downtown / Bridge Street area from morning until about an hour or so from the festival beginning. Molly Maguire's was the perfect spot to grab lunch as the cozy establishment unfolds with a spacious, inviting wrap-around bar as you step inside. If you wanted, there was the option for secluded dining options on the second floor and even a reserved third floor for special occasions, adding layers to the venue's charm.
The menu offers a vibrant tapestry of culinary options and caters to a spectrum of tastes. For my midday romp, I indulged in the Caoimhe Reuben, an exquisite in-house creation featuring meticulously cured corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and 1000 Island dressing on marble rye. The accompanying fries served as a delectable companion to the Smithwick's Red Ale. My dining companion opted for the BBQ Pulled Pork Flatbread, a generously portioned treat adorned with succulent roasted pork, shredded mozzarella, fresh coriander, and topped with zesty BBQ sauce. A hefty portioned by comparison to other places serving flatbread.
Molly Maguire's is undoubtedly a must-visit if you find yourself in the Phoenixville area, and I'm already looking forward to...
