My friend and I ate visited Floor 2 for the first time this past weekend, and had brunch. Overall, it was a nice dining experience, but I wasn't super impressed. Positives first - the portion size was nice. I got avocado toast, and there had to have been the equivalent of 2 full mashed avocado and lots of grape tomatoes. I also got the parfait, which was very hearty and filling. I loved the stainless steel coffee carafes that kept my coffee piping hot and I could refill on my own. Mimosas, while in a small champagne flute, were strong. Service was pleasant, and our server seemed knowledgeable. The restaurant was clean and bright. As for the not so positives - the price point is steep for average tasting food. Honestly, for a la carte items, it's really out there. To put it in perspective, all you can eat brunch at the Grand Concourse is $32 per person. At Floor 2, I spent $42 here on 1 mimosa, avocado toast, the partfait and a cup of coffee. Also, the avocado toast normally is served with eggs, which I do not eat. I asked if I could just have avocados (on the menu as a side for $6) and some toast. She said, we can just do the toast with no egg. Yet, I was still charged $16, as if it had egg. Feel like I got a raw deal there. The seasoning in the avocadoes was really lacking. It was just avocado and a very light lemon flavor. It really needed some onion or garlic or something. I doused it with salt. And the toast underneath a gigantic serving of avocados was small and measily multitgrain toast.... rather soft and unable to really do the dish justice. Also, the mimosa was $12, I believe. The River's has brunch and serves endless mimosas for $1 each. And the view is better.
Nice experience overall.. wouldn't rush to go back with those prices, though. Too much competition for brunch...
Read moreMy fiancé and I came in on Thursday 2/29 evening for a reservation booked a couple weeks in advance wanting to have a nice meal in the middle of the road trip we were on. We sat at the bar for about half an hour to an hour and the service and drinks were great! With the great service we had at the bar we had high hopes for our reservation. We sat down and were greeted by our waiter. We advised that we didn’t want appetizers so he offered us some bread as we wait. The open concept kitchen allows you to see what meals are being prepared and are up at expo.. we watched the bread be prepared and then sit at expo, our server walked up multiple times to it and never brought it to our table. When our entrees were delivered, my fiancé made a comment about not receiving the bread as we waited. The server never apologized and then lied stating the bread was still being prepared and would be right up.. as we watched it sit there for about 20 minutes. I work as a server and my fiancé because of that is also well aware that things happen and people forget items but as a server you apologize and fess up to a mistake and try to correct it. After that, our waiter took forever to come around when we were done and ready for dessert. He wasn’t very pleasant when he did visit the table and seemed annoyed to be there. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. The food combined with the terrible service was definitely not worth the price and we will most likely won’t be returning when we visit Pittsburgh in the future for...
Read moreThis restaurant is on the second floor of the Fairmont Hotel and definitely has an upscale hotel vibe. Impeccable service, with attentive but not overbearing waitstaff. I spent a good hour and a half enjoying my meal and my book, and never felt rushed to finish.
I reserved a table alone for Sunday brunch and ordered the imperial breakfast tea, two eggs with potatoes and something called "tomato fondue," and pain au chocolat. I found the tea slightly bitter, but it was the strongest black tea on the menu, and I'm not convinced their tea presses totally stop steeping when pressed. A bit of milk took care of that. The meal was delicious but not seasoned much beyond a bit of salt - I wish I'd had the presence of mind to ask for some pepper. (Tomato fondue, it turns out, is basically just tomatoes, roasted until jammy.) The portion was perfect - enough to be filling but not so much I felt stuffed. The pain au chocolat was served warm and tasted so good, I think coffee shop pastries are a little ruined for me.
fl.2 is a bit pricier than where I normally eat, but you could see that reflected in the quality of the service and the food. Not sure if I'll return soon, as I'd like to try other places with more creatively seasoned dishes, but I would recommend fl.2 for general upscale dining.
P.S. If you arrive by bicycle, lock to the bike racks in Market Square and walk over. There are no racks in front of the...
