From start to finish, this visit was a masterclass in how not to treat patrons. The bartender was shockingly rude, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in providing even the bare minimum of service. When I politely asked a question about my meal, she responded with visible irritation and a tone that suggested I was inconveniencing her. She then submitted our food order without even asking which of the three available sides I preferred, and had the audacity to act annoyed when I informed herâafter the factâthat I had wanted tater tots with my sandwich.
Requests for water were met with complete indifference. We were quite literally ignored. It felt as though asking for basic service was asking too much.
The most outrageous part of the evening came as we were settling the bill. The server slid the check back across the bar to my friend and, with breathtaking audacity, said: "You can tip higher than that! We only make $3/hr. Come on man! Do better!" She then rolled her eyes at the rest of us and stormed off. For reference, my friend had already left a 15% tip despite the unacceptable treatment we had all received.
To top it all off, the foodâwhen it finally arrivedâwas cold, bland, and unappetizing. The menus were sticky and clearly unsanitized, adding an extra layer of disgust to an already miserable visit.
The entitlement, the gall, the lack of professionalism â this bar has made it astoundingly easy for me to say with complete confidence: I will never set foot in this establishment again.

Read moreHemingway's is a popular college bar in the city. It's around the corner from the Originals and right by Pitt. The workers are nice, and provide great service! They have many different brands of beer, & cocktails to choose from. The food is delicious for bar food. Atmosphere is calm and simple for this pub. I bring my friends during happy hour so we can order off the $5 menu and get discounts off our drinks! Shot pitchers are only $7.50-$9.50 which is cheaper compared to a typical full pitcher drink. Taylor Swift drink was my first one. Ever since I've loved it! It's so good I had to tell people at school about it. And the drinks are amazing! They even put gummy worms in them!!! We also watch ball games on the flat screen for entertainment. Everytime we go the waiter or waitress assists us and bar tenders make the drinks strong and sweet!! The food comes out fresh & piping hot just how we like it!!!They also welxome a diverse crowd of people from different ages and cultures. I recommend everyone to go to Hemingway's you will...
Read moreHaving lived in Pittsburgh for going on 7 years, Hem's was one of the first places I ate and I still go. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is wonderful and inexpensive. Anything they make is delicious, especially with chicken. They always come up with new ways to make chicken such as "Maple Apple Chicken" and stuff like that. Their Marsala sauce is as good as any, and with no plate exceeding 11 bucks, it really makes for a nice place. Their burgers are fantastic too along with their pasta dishes, namely the Pesto Tortellini. They have half off from 11-11:45AM, 1 PM o about 3 I believe and anytime after 9PM, making times throughout the entire day that the food is discounted from the already inexpensive prices. They have really decent drink specials as well. Hem's is always the go to for us. They are so friendly and the food is as good as any. It is also convenient, being right in the center of Oakland. I have nothing but good to say about Hems, we go...
