North Shore Tavern was amazinggggg!!! 🤤🥩

Impulse decision to try North Shore Tavern on 10-28-2021. We didn't have a reservation and decided to wait at the bar. Just a short 10 minutes and we were seated. Service was prompt and courteous. Believe it or not, we did not do any research before going. A month or so before I saw a social media post from a friend which inspired us to want to try it. Wife ordered the salmon, and I ordered the fillet. I told the waiter that I'll take my fillet medium please. He looked at me smiling then began to explain the hot stone concept. I started to laugh realizing that my request was novice, a bit slightly embarrassed but all in fun. After he explained the concept, we got excited and were ready for a new dining adventure. About 20 minutes passed and the food came out. 800-degree hot stone slab. We followed the server’s instructions and had a very enjoyable experience. Overall, the food was good! Wife loved her salmon, although she had to wait and additional 15 minutes for her side dish as it didn't come out with the entrée. My fillet was good, and the side sauces were tasty. My only negative was that the beef was not seasoned. And there was no salt or pepper at the table. But this is a very minor issue compared to the fun dinner experience we had. I would highly recommend the North Short Tavern for anyone looking for a fun and value.

North Shore Tavern is located downtown Pittsburg, a stones throw from the Pirates and Steelers fields, respectively. The hot food item at NST? Steak on a Stone. You basically cook your steak on a hot lava rock. It’s exactly like it sounds. For the sake of trying as many items as I could, I got the Surf & Turf, a filet, 3 cajun shrimp and 2 sea scallops. All came barely cooked, thus allowing me to cook it myself on the stone. Each meat slice, I sliced it, seared it to my desired temp, and voila. It was a fun experience but I can’t say I’m DYING to go back. It’s fun though, and I’m glad we tried it. Scallops and shrimp were plump and delicious. Steak cut like butter, and hand cut fries with garlic aioli and chimichurri sauce was also good. Fries were cold though, and one would think I could heat up on the stone but it didn’t quite work that way. So that was a bummer. Crab dip with pita bread was also tasty. A few shells in the dip so that’s a little deflating, but flavor wise the dip was very good. Service was great, sat at the bar first for a round of drinks and it was nice. We had a great time, can’t wait to go back to Pittsburg to try some other things.

I went here for the first time last week. You are not just dining out when you go here, it is a dining experience to enjoy with friends or family and the servers will treat you as such. They are the most professional, attentive and courteous bunch i think i have encountered in YEARS!!

This place far exceeded my expectations. It is quite different in the sense the menu changes weekly. I do not think all of the steak on a stone does and i am so thankful for that.

The specialty drink menu is nothing like i have ever seen. I tried the lemonade, which is to die for.

Apps- We had the chipotle chicken nachos, maryland crab dip (served with pita chips) and caprese focaccia pizza. every app is served for as many diners you have. It is all sharable, they bring you plates and extra heavy duty napkins for everyone. all very delicious and with everyone sharing, you literally do not get full prior to your meal.

Main courses....i viewed the menu prior to going so I knew i was trying the surf and turf on a stone with the 6oz. Filet, 3 Cajun Shrimp & 2 Scallops. what i didnt know was how it was served and how outstanding the quality of food would be. This incredibly creative concept is something i believe everyone should try at least once in your life, but truth be told, it will NOT be the only time.

Your food comes out on a large size wooden cutting board with it on a hot stone i believe heated to over 500 degrees. you hear it sizzling and you can see the seasoning on the shrimp and smell how wonderful everything is going to be once it all gets to the preferred temp for your liking.

Your server will explain to you that it is up to you how thick you want your filet slices to be, how long to let the seafood sizzle and the doneness of you succulent filet and scallops to be.

On to desserts. We were celebrating with 5 of us, so we ordered 2 of the skillet cookies, comes with 3 scoops of the best vanilla ice cream on top, and 1 slice of the NY cheesecake with blueberry compote, on a plate large enough to slice it for as many people you have and the perfect sized spoons to just dig right into the warm gooey chocolate chip cookie and ice cream for the most perfect bite of dessert.

I have been to plenty of places to eat in my life, but this one is the most memorable and delicious. I will never forget this celebration and my next will be right here. It...

This place is in a prime location just across from PNC Park - the home of the Pittsburgh pirates! It's so busy that even if you make a reservation and arrive early, they still make you wait over 20 mins beyond your reservation time to get a table. This is acceptable when you are not in a rush to go anywhere but if dinner is part of a timed program, might be a problem. When we got seated, our server promptly brought us water while we looked at menus. She then took our drink and food orders. She was great. We decided to start with the pretzel appetizers... they arrived quickly and were tasty albeit a little too salty for my taste. Thank goodness we ordered that because it took nearly an hour for our entrees to arrive. A family of 7 who were seated after we we sat down were able to get their food and leave before us. My husband ordered the steak and I did the salmon. They have this fancy service where they have a hot stone on a tray and place the meat on it and serve it up to the person. So basically, we chose to pay them to let us cook our own food! In this instance it took an hour for the food to get to us for us to cook and eat it. It's not a bad concept but isn't the whole point of going out to eat so someone else can cook your food for you? The entrees were pricey and not worth the money. I do have to hand it to them though... they halved the cost of our entrees because of the wait. This was all due to the waitress... she felt really bad about the situation even though it was not her fault. She ensured we had some compensation. Perhaps we'll go back... but knowing it is the better part of wisdom to just stick...

I was really excited to try this place after seeing all the great reviews, but it turned out to be a disappointment. My two friends and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. We ordered our food, including the pretzel sticks app. We were about to dig into the app when we saw a loooong dark hair coming out of the cheese dip and stretching all the way across the plate. We tried getting our server's attention several times with no luck. Finally, she saw us calling her over and we sent back the app. She offered to get us a new one, but we said we'd just wait for our food. Our meals came out a few minutes later. We all checked our plates and everything looked good. I had a few fries (which actually seemed pretty tasty) and then I saw one of my friends spitting out her first bite of salad. There it was - ANOTHER long dark hair embedded in her salad. Sufficiently grossed out, we just told the server we were going somewhere else and left. I know that hair gets in food once in a while. We shrugged it off when it happened the first time, but none of us had ever experienced getting hair in both courses! There's just no excuse for that. It was definitely not our server's hair, so I hope she didn't get any of the blame for this. The way it was almost mixed in with the food suggested that it must've come from the chef or some other kitchen staff. Does management let employees with long hair work the kitchen without wearing hair nets or at least pulling it...
