Best gelato in Pittsburgh! We got the Orange Julio and Speculoos flavors. Such great light texture, almost like a soft serve but more creamy. Also fantastic pasta - you can build your own pasta starting with the pasta type then adding sauce and protein if you want. We ordered the Mafalde with Basil Pesto Cream which tasted delicious and was a huge serving size. The burrata and focaccia appetizer was one of our favorites! Buttery, olive oil-y and a little crunch from the bread with a great accent from the cold, creamy burrata that made for some delicious bites. We also ordered the polenta with sausages which wasn't our personal favorite. Too many peppers and onions and too little sausage. The polenta was also a semi-hard cake which wasn't a form I was used to. I would go back for the pasta and gelato and try the pizza next time! It was a little pricier than we expected (around $35/person for appetizer, main, gelato) but was delicious and we will be back.

Papa J’s was the single greatest dining experience that I have ever had. We reserved a spot for a party of 21. The owner, Michael reached out to us and was extremely accommodating to our party and worked with us to create a dining menu that fit our party well. We could not have been more pleased! We had a red sauce pasta, a white sauce pasta, garden salad, and 14 different kinds of Roman pizza! Everything was absolutely delicious! We also added on some of their fresh made gelato! Michael’s family has been in Pittsburgh for a hundred years and he is running an absolutely phenomenal restaurant! Everything is fresh, made in house, and made with care. The service, food, and establishment was all incredible! Side note, we also had a gluten free member of our party and they were super accommodating. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Papa J's Twin Plaza is a great addition to The Strip District. A much needed, full service, family friendly, traditional Italian restaurant. Suitable for casual or formal dining. Papa J's is an open, clean, bright space. Excellent service. Justin and Patrick were charming and professional. We visited for dinner on a Saturday night at 8 and Papa J's was packed. Almost every table was full. The dining room and bar are seperate from each other. I caught a glimpse of the bar. It was modern and cozy. I had a bowl of wedding soup. It was so flavorful. Full of veggies, chicken, & meatballs. I also had the Chicken Parmigiana. It was delicious! Tasted just like my Mom made it. The marinara was really good, the homemade pasta was cooked perfect. The chicken cutlets were crispy and flavorful. I can't wait to go back and give something else a try.

I made reservations 2 weeks prior for a party of 7. When we were seated our waitress told us she was new but had been in the waitressing field for 9 years. I thought it was odd they would give her a larger party considering she was new and with all the tables with 2-3 but we went with it. It was a total disaster. First we ordered 2 apps to be shared and a few drinks. A table of 2 and another table of 3 came in after we had ordered our apps. We waited almost 30 minutes for our apps and drinks. During that time the other two tables ordered and had there apps already. Our apps finally came out and they were delicious! My father had ordered a cup of Italian wedding soup and asked for it to come out with his meal. I ordered the same but said to bring it when the apps come out. Well, a bowl came out and the waitress spilled part of it down my dad’s arm. She was apologetic and brought out a towel and started wiping his arm with it. He played it off and said no problem and told her he would clean it up. Since the soup was already in front of him I told him to eat it and I would take his when it came out. During our meal we had to asked for a few more napkins and an extra fork bc they had taken my dads with his app plate. I think we asked her 3 times before she brought out a new fork and napkins. Btw she only had one other table of 2 she was waiting on. Move forward to 8:00 pm. We ordered 3 dessert cocktails and told her to bring out the check. A couple minutes later she brought out the electronic cc machine and we paid for everything. 8:25 pm still no drinks…I could see who I believed was the owner or manager kept coming out and looking at our table waiting for us to leave. 8:30 same guy came out and looked at our table. I got up to talk to him and didn’t see where he went. I decided to go to the bar and see where our drinks were. I spoke to the bartender who was obviously wiping everything down and closing up. He never got the cocktail order. He was super nice and apologetic. He immediately made our drinks and brought them to our table within 5 minutes. They must have said something to our waitress bc she came back to our table to go over what she had written on her order pad. She had two of the drinks we ordered written down and then something with cookie dough that we never ordered. Like we said to her, we never even got any of the ones you wrote down. To end a very long review… I will never go back but if you need a last minute place to eat the food is decent but management needs to look at how they are training...

If I could give less than 1 star I would. We made reservations on Christmas Eve for 2pm and were told they closed at 4pm but we would have plenty of time for dinner and dessert at 2pm. We even called 2 times and asked if we should come at 12pm instead. My family hasn’t had a Christmas Eve dinner together in years and were so excited to be together. 4 of our families flew in to pittsburgh for this dinner. We sat down at 2pm and ordered drinks. At 225pm the waitress told us the kitchen would be closing and we needed to order. A little confused we told her we thought they closed at 4pm. They were not busy and obviously wanted to close sooner. We put our orders in anyway. Our food was horrible. The cacio e pepe and carbonara were identical, both noodles that tasted like cream of chicken soup had been poured on top. We all ordered different noodles with our meals yet received the same ones. My sister asked for another coke at 245pm and was told the bar had been closed and machines turned off. At this point I went to speak to the manager who told me he was the owner. I expressed my concerns and was approached with nothing but sarcasm and attitude. My sister asked for a box for her pasta to go and he gave her a pizza box. He then preceded to get in my mothers face screaming at her to “get out you terrible rotten people.” We had asked for a discount when we were told how rushed we were and he told us 2pm was plenty of time to eat dinner and desert since they closed at 4pm; yet he had no answers as to why the waitress was rushing us out of there. he continued to scream at us (with young children present) as we packed up to leave saying were "evil and awful and to enjoy our rotten christmas." I have never in my life experienced such horrible treatment from the owner, let alone on christmas. We were a party of 10 who didn't get to eat and couldn't find anywhere else to accommodate us on the holiday. This is not the same family owned delicious restaurant that was once in Carnegie. Make your...

My first time in Papa J’s, I was greeted by what I think was the one of the owners but not entirely sure. Very nice guy and gave me a little tour of the restaurant. Fantastic first impression for sure. I actually didn’t eat that day but just wanted to know what they had to offer.

Few days later I placed a to-go order for a chicken parm sandwich and ended up getting 2 cuts of pizza while I was there as well. My sandwich was very delicious with lots of flavor and the 2 cuts of pizza that I had.. Arguably the best pizza in the city to be honest.

Me and a buddy decided to eat here for NYE since there were full of open reservations and 2 minutes from where I live at. Took awhile for our waitress who was one of the bartenders to come over and greet us which was fine; they had a full bar to attend to so that wasn’t a big deal. We both order sodas for our beverages. We only receive one refill for the hour and 15 min we were there for which I thought was a little ridiculous. We ordered the meatballs for an appetizer which only come with 2 for $16. Had we know there was only 2, we most likely wouldn’t have ordered them but they were stil delicious.

My favorite pasta dish is Chicken Alfredo and I was looking forward to trying it here because they make their own noodles right on spot which is always and added bonus but it’s really all about how flavorful the sauces and chicken is. Let’s just say I’ll never order Chicken Alfredo from here again. Hardly any flavor from the sauce and the chicken which is had prepared blackened. On top of that, my dish sat over by the pick up center for almost 12 minutes not covered while my buddy’s meal was being finished. I didn’t understand why our server didn’t bring my dish over after she saw us both looking at it for quite some time. My buddy ordered the chicken carbonara which is wasn’t impressed with at all.. Very liquidity is what he said.

This won’t stop me from coming here again but a very poor experience for dining in for the...
