If I could I would give Prantl's bakery -Shadyside location a ZERO I would! I go in there weekly, sometimes multiple days a week and have always had a great experience except for today. The guy was completely rude, unprofessional and an complete jerk! When I arrived he was in the back for awhile and when he came out after 5 minutes he asked me what I would like. I said "I'd like 3 glazed donuts in 3 separate boxes as I always have asked. He proceeded to get my order, but I realized he didnt put gloves on (which all Prantl's employees wear atleast one glove when handling your food)...so I asked him to put gloves on before touching the donuts. He put the gloves on and made a sarcastic comment about my mask and said "How many times" have you had covid?". When I gave a response he said "impressive" and laughed. Which there is nothing funny about having covid or an auto-immune disease. I responded and he didn't say anything further until I was leaving and said "Make sure you wear gloves when you eat the donuts because the donuts, boxes and gloves have dirt on them" and laughed again. I asked him to repeat himself and he said the same exact things with other customers there. I've been coming here for years and I'll never step foot in this establishment AGAIN! I'm not sure if they just hired him, but he is a complete jerk!! Like I said I've been coming there for years and this my first time seeing him.

Picked up a BURNT ALMOND torte cake on Thursday 2/22/24 at the Greensburg location. Was taking this to my DIL for her birthday in Virginia. I mentioned to the ladies working there that I have purchased these cakes many, many times and my Son and DIL even had their wedding cake from there and the almonds looked very burnt (no pun intended) they said No. I knew they were. Almonds tasted awful and were very much burned. I have attached a picture. So disappointing. No one ate their cake it was so awful tasting. Whomever did these almonds this time should never have put them on the cakes for sale. UPDATE: I called them and spoke with who I thought was a manager. They asked me to send them a picture of the cake and the person I spoke with said “oh my”!!!!! She admitted it was burnt. She offered to send me a gift card. Let me preface this by saying this cake was $36.99 plus tax, got a gift card today for $20. They should be ashamed. I was going to take down this review because I thought they were making this right.

Lackluster service is whatever, I know retail isn’t great somedays. But let me tell you, my disappointment once I got home and my partner and I tried a piece of this TEN DOLLAR cake… immeasurable. The icing? It’s literally oil and sugar. No flavor. Literally cheap supermarket icing, not buttercream, not Swiss or Italian either, not even standard American, nothing with flavor just oil and sugar. Bland. Saccharin. Gross. And the cake? Tell me, why on earth was the cake dry and tasted stale??? Genuinely shocking. And the raspberry on top (raspberry white chocolate) tasted like jelly. Not homemade compote, nah just jelly. Disgusting, not worth half the money. We didn’t finish them. So, out of frustration, we went ahead and tried our Red Velvet slices too, just get it out of the way. Where’s the cream cheese?! Oh, it’s in between the layers, but the entire slice is covered in that disgusting oily sugar icing. And the cream cheese icing? Barely tasted like cream cheese. Still oily. Still gross. The chocolate cake isn’t actually red velvet (not the hugest sin) but it is the blandest chocolate cake with red dye. Genuinely upsetting. And finally, I bought a cheesecake bite for the drive home that I forgot to mention. Literally a single bite for $5. It was mediocre at best, tasted like instant cheesecake. How on earth does this place have such good reviews??? I would NEVER recommend their disgusting baked goods, not even if the prices were significantly cheaper. Don’t waste almost...

I got a Pumpkin Gem and an Almond Torte Bar to go. I was excited to try this place given the hype, but unfortunately the hype did not match reality for me.

The Gem was very cute, and it was effectively an iced cupcake covered in fondant to look like a pumpkin. I really like fondant, and the icing was well done. The cake was unfortunately dry and had no character. That was in common the almond torte.

The Almond Torte: the crown jewel of this bakery. It looked very pretty and was well-reviewed so I was excited to try it. The almonds had a nice crunch to them, and the icing around them was fluffy and flavorful. But that's where it ended. The cake itself was dry and flavorless to me: it was clearly expecting the icing and custard inside to mask it. Or, that the cake was supposed to just be a medium for the custard and decoration, and do just that. I think it really could have had something more defining and outright be of higher quality: more moist and have an extract in it like vanilla or almond. The custard is what 'took the cake' for me: while it was good I noticed it had ice crystals! I hope that was because the display temperature was very cold, but I can't help but think the cake could have frozen and later thawed for sale.

The staff were nice and the interior was cute, I'll give them that. The pastries look very pretty and there's lots of variety. Just on flavor and delivery, I was outright disappointed. For the price and fame, I...
