I absolutely loved the meal I had yesterday from Tocayo. Their dessert especially blew me away. Price wise, it's not too bad and the location is nice as well. It's a good place to dine in or get takeout from. I tried their classic cheese quesadilla and a tres leches cake. Firstly, a very nice surprise was that they give you free chips and salsa even with takeout orders. And, these wasn't just some standard chips and salsa. It was pretty tasty! The chips weren't too oily and the portion was nice. Salsa had chunks of onion and tomato with a nice spice and sourness to it. The quesadilla was also so tasty. Again, portion was well worth the price. They used the perfect amount of cheese in the quesadilla. The tortilla was crispy and topped with a salsa and sour cream. When warmed, this was so irresistible. You could easily share it with someone too. The best part of this meal was definitely (although everything else was fantastic) the tres leches. It seriously blew me away; definitely the best I've had in Pittsburgh or many in my life. So creamy, sweet, milky, and just perfect in every way. It is a bit pricey, but it's so worth it to me. You also get a bit of chocolate and a cherry with it (nice extras). All in all, I highly enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend this place. Try the tres leches if you come (order multiple if you can)! Good atmosphere, decent prices, and very high quality food.

Food was okay here. Stopped for a Sunday lunch and ordered an array of items. Location was easy to find. -Salsa and chips with medium and mild chips fried crunchy and salsas were ok. -Queso dip appetizer was good. -Pork taquito app was tasty. Was similar to spring rolls filled with pork standing on a bed of guacamole. You get about 6 minis. -Tacos meals served with 2 tacos and sides. -Steak nachos - meat flavoring lacking but was tender. -Shredded Chicken chimichanga - meat was not too dry and was flavorful but, was looking for a sauce on top. Was served with lettuce, rice no beans, sour cream and pico -Carne asada meat cooked medium as requested was tender but need a bit more seasoning / flavor -Spicy pineapple drink was sweet, tart and spicy -Sangria was sweet and flavorful. You can visibly see and taste the pieces of fruit added to the drink. -Margaritas good - as expected -Churros dessert with ice cream was delicious. Was fried and served warm; cinnamon and sugary served in a bed of ice cream. Some of the meat dishes (specifically beef) were lacking seasoning. The cook was spot with the grill of the meat however, just the flavoring could be improved in some cases. Servers were friendly and very attentive. Pricing for all was around $180 for 4 people and the items we orders. Street or nearby parking garage parking. Near a bunch of shops.

Tocayo-Shadyside has excellent food. Delicious, perfectly crafted cocktails. I had the Jamaica Margarita and my Mom had a frozen Mango Marg. The guacamole is one of the best in the city. I was expected to be charged more for it, since the menu listed it's cost as "market price". But I believe it came to $14 for an appetizer portion fit for two. For my entree I tried the mix and match tacos. I had the fish taco, which was insanely good. And I tried a chicken chorizo taco, which was very good. These came with a very flavorful and nicely portioned side salad. My Mom tried the shrimp taco and she raved about how good it was. Service was nice enough. As far as atmosphere goes. Tocayo is beautifully decorated with vibrant, colorful and cheerful decor. But the overall vibe from staff and other patrons was the opposite of cheerful, warm and vibrant. It was sterile and muted. That was kind of a drag. Maybe they didn't particularly like that my eight year old son was with me? He's very well behaved and quite frankly, the life of the party anywhere we go. Maybe they could take a nod from him and loosen up and crack a smile once in awhile. I would give them another try. But if I get the feeling my kid is unwelcome again, then I'll never go here again.

Well let me start with the atmosphere, it was at hartwood acres, so I’m obviously referring to only the food truck here. As a lifelong vegetarian and lover of Mexican food, it’s been a tough 45 year road. But, who knew that at a blues show at hartwood, my faith in pittsburgh mexican food would be restored 100%?! The service was as good as it gets at a food truck at a free concert: amazing. But the best part was the food. My expectations for nachos from a food truck have dropped lower than the radar shows, and holy hell these were the best nachos I’ve had in ages. Perfectly constructed, with quality ingredients covering everything, yet maintaining absolute structural integrity. After licking my fingers from those, I dig into my vegetarian tacos; a cliche sounding blend of prepared veggies and cheese, in a flour tortilla. Well if I had socks on that night (but who wears Birkenstocks with socks these days amirite) they’d have been knocked off. Dynamite tacos. Amazing flavor that made me eat way too much whilst maintaining a smile on my guacamole covered face. Deliciously perfect meal. And to top it off, they were fine with leaving pico on the side, for my cilantro sensitive wife (I know - crazy). Much to my pleasure, as I drowned myself in the sweet essence of cilantro after a hot makeout pre-taco sesh. I’m leaving this show more satisfied by the food than the music, and I paid for the former, and not the latter… We can’t wait to come to the actual restaurant asap. For...
