Owners have zero clue on how to manage a business nor do they pay attention to what's happening at their stores. This location is severely understaffed and what do they decide to do? Expand store hours spreading the limited people even more thinly. Typically a "smart" company would shorten store hours to make sure things operate smoothly and wouldn't have to spread their staff so thinly and anticipate when someone may not show up, but this isn't a good company, nor is it a smart one. They also have zero passion for coffee and is far more automated than even starbucks. Also if you saw how disgusting those fridges were, you might not wanna drink anything from the machine. There's also a few safety hazards that just get completely ignored and one of them is a severe risk to the customers (dont sit under the baydoor when they're opening or closing it, it looks like it'll break off any moment.). There's also a slight unwelcoming vibe that I did not really appreciate that made me feel quite nervous and not wanna be there. I've noticed the workers here quite rudely and will utter things about them in clear earshot away from them while I would just look at the customer that clearly heard them with an awkward smile, feeling bad that they had to witness that when they really did nothing wrong. I get thing's get stressful but we shouldn't take it out on every customer, they literally just ordered a simple drink and left a decent tip. No need for the hostility. Anyways, just don't go here, drinks are too expensive with how they are prepared.

Hope things get better for the people that work and hopefully get higher wages. 11 an hr for that chaos is not worth it and if things dont change quickly, I hope they...

Today, I walked in hoping to do what most people do at coffee shops: drink coffee, eat a bagel, and take care of business on my laptop. Now when I walked in there was a line and the place was almost full so I decided to think ahead and reserve a seat by putting my bag on the table like many people do very quickly. One was a paper bag with the leftover food I had just ate. Now as I’m putting it on the table and about to get in line, I notice this guy, who I found out was the manager, looking at me and shaking his head then presumes to say loudly in front of the whole cafe “no, you can’t sit and eat that here to which I yelled back, “I’m getting coffee”.

However, after he decided to very rudely try to embarrass me, I just decided to leave because the altercation pissed me off.

The first problem I have was the tone and how loud but wrong he was having everyone turn their head.

Secondly, he should have minded his business until he even had the certainty of what was happening. He was so quick to jump when I hadn’t even sat down and wasn’t planning to because I was headed to the line before he rudely interrupted.

If I wanted to just sit down and eat my food I would have done it at the place I ordered it, in which I did before coming there…

It was just unnecessary and left a really bad taste in my mouth because way to make someone uncomfortable so I ended at Starbucks even though I wanted to try something new and the service there was...

Love supporting local, love not supporting the mega corporations whenever possible, so the CTR is great for the Pittsburgh area! Only 3 out of 5 for this location due to the continued mess-ups of ordering whenever I have been there. The most recent time, this past weekend, took some out of towners and just wanted to treat myself to a latte for once. The cashier thought I wanted almond milk when I was asking what flavors they had to add into my latte - I clarified and told him I wanted whole milk, and either almond or amerreto for flavoring. (He understood and properly entered my order so it printed on the cup as desired).

This would have been great if the barista making my drink hadn't then just used almond milk....and put no flavor shot in either...thankfully when announced I told them they were wrong, that it should have been whole milk, etc. She was nice, offered immediately to remake it properly, but the point is there is too much waste when this happens! I told her no, I would drink it just add some flavor too, and no need to waste!!

Let's get it right the first time people! If it's unclear due to the print-off label, that can be easily made more...

I'm guilty of visiting the big chains like anyone else. The many Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Tim Hortons locations and apps make coffee on the run so convenient. A little too convenient! Sometimes it's refreshing to slow down, relax, and enjoy the coffeehouse atmosphere for a moment. Living in the North Hills we don't have many independent restaurants, but while shopping in Shadyside I finally had the opportunity to try a new place! After shopping for art supplies nearby at Blick, I noticed a cafe I had passed too many times, yet never stopped at. Today was the day, we artists need caffeine too to get the creativity pumping! On warm days the front garage door windows open to let in fresh air and set the outdoor cafe scene. But this is late October in Pittsburgh, so we're going with cozy indoor vibes. It was somewhat dimly lit with lots of local students typing away and a small line that moved along at a pace just right to admire the interior. I ordered my usual white mocha and it was just the right temp and flavor. Enough excitement to push me to explore more local food joints!

Love CTR! since college I've been coming here, as well as worked there... Great, family owned business, with an attention to quality and consistency. Always know I will get a drink that is consistent with what I've gotten before, and also enjoy the foods they've added, made fresh and locally. Squirrel Hill is the original store, but I much prefer shady side location to sit and work or to hang out: with the comfy sofas and fireplace in the winter.... Grab a good book, or your computer, and you feel like you're at home! Definitely recommend!
