Hi Chicken Guy, just thought I should share my experience at the PPG Place location with you since I am an avid fan of Chicken Guy and have frequented the Disney Springs location too many times to count. I was probably your biggest advocate for a Pittsburgh location over the last few years but am disappointed to say that I will not be going back to the PPG location despite working a few blocks from this storefront. I walked into an empty restaurant and was not greeted or even looked at by employees for a few minutes. Finally the woman behind the counter mumbled something and I proceeded to give her my order. After repeating my order three times she finally had everything taken care of. I went to redeem my birthday saucesquad reward and she had no idea what I was talking about. The manager came over and asked me for my phone number not once, not twice, but eight times to redeem this reward. After ordering we went to find a table to sit at but every table was covered in garbage- mind you we are one of two families in this restaurant. We clear off a table ourselves and wait 15 minutes before heading up to the register to see what is taking so long. After another 5 minutes we receive our order and are missing a 3 piece chicken tender, sauces, and a milkshake. Finally delving into the food I was very disappointed to find that the quality of the chicken is in no way comparable to that of Disney Springs- the chicken is tough and a lot thicker than what I have come to expect of Chicken Guy. Perhaps the worst difference though is how much seasoning was put on the chicken and fries- making everything unbearably salty. The one good thing from my meal was the sugar cookie milkshake which looked absolutely nothing like the picture but at least tasted good. I was so excited when I heard that my city was getting a Chicken Guy but unfortunately this is a one and done for me and I honestly can't see this location lasting past a year due to the poor quality of food, service, and cleanliness. I really wish you could have thrived in the Pittsburgh market but I just don't see that happening unless a Disney Springs approach is taken quickly. I'm looking forward to getting back to Florida in the coming months to head to my favorite Chicken...
Read moreThe restaurant was dirty when we went in. Not unsanitary but there were straw wrappers, napkins, plastic ware all over the floor and you could tell none of the employees were taking care of it. The tables weren’t wiped down either. Now it was a Sunday and there were tons of people ice skating and just generally around PPG Plaza. Every employee was busy, so it could’ve been a combination of low staffing and the general public just being slobs, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt on that. When looking at the menu I saw it said Cherry Coke was available. The fountain is around the corner so I couldn’t actually see it, but because if this I decided to order a combo meal to get a drink rather than drink my water I brought in (I love a good fountain Cherry Coke). After ordering (I was with another person with 4 children) we got settled and I went get my drink last and Cherry Coke wasn’t even an option on the drink fountain. Not even regular Coke and add a shot of Cherry flavoring. I was just annoyed at this point but whatever. When I got back to the table our food was ready so it didn’t take long. I was with 4 kids and all they eat are chicken fingers, fries, mac n cheese and fried pickles (why we picked the place). None of them wanted to eat almost anything and I don’t blame them. The chicken and fries were way over seasoned and the chicken was so dry. The pickle chips were so salty (the batter) and honestly the Mac n cheese looked really good but I have no idea what it was made of. It was so gross. I honestly am not even sure it was ok to eat (may have been outdated/soured or something like that). Two adults and four kids spent close to $80 and threw most of the food away because it wasn’t edible. Then about 20min after leaving I started getting stomach cramps and did not feel well. The rest of the evening was very unpleasant for me as my bathroom and I got very well acquainted. I DO NOT recommend eating here, ever. At first as we were leaving I thought about going back for a milkshake sometime but after what I experienced later in the evening I’m...
Read moreI went in with low expectations. A famous person throws his name on a restaurant and usually the result is poor. I was wrong. First off, they do a great job to pull you in the door. We didn't plan on eating there after ice skating, but I found myself unable to resist. First, the smell of the food poured out around the seating area of the rink, and dang it smelled good. Then, My daughter needed to use the bathroom, but the outside one was "closed while Chicken Guy is open. Please use Chicken Guy's bathroom." That pulls you in the door and you have to walk past the entertaining sauces board. Yes, we found ourselves reading it and the imagery gave my daughter a good chuckle. They also have rubber floors from the front to the bathrooms meaning you don't need to take your skates off while you are in there. Alright, we were sold, this is where we were having dinner.
The good: the seasoning on the fries was top-notch. I ordered two sauces, and the Garlic Parm was surprisingly good. When you get a Garlic Parm sauce at most Chicken places, you get an oily mess of Parm on top, garlic on the bottom, and oil in between. Chicken Guy has a delicious buttery paste that makes it easy to dip your tenders in without loss of flavor. Teriyaki was good but nothing special. Our food also came out quickly despite the number of people!
The bad: the register guy was clearly new and was struggling. He could have used a little more support from his team but I don't fault him for having a hard time, those PoS systems can be a pain to navigate. While the Chicken had a wonderful crisp, the chicken itself was pretty stringy and I had a hard time biting through a few pieces. We also didn't have the option to get fries without seasoning for my daughter but I understand the reasoning if they are just making everything en mass. However, the register guy didn't know the answer and the cook from the back shouted the answer up for me (politely mind you).
In the end, I will be visiting again. I am curious, however, about how they will do once the winter...
