An authentic tapas style Spanish restaurant. Most of tables are already reserved but there are still bar seats open to first come first serve manner, which is a lifesaver for people who occasionally decide to visit a restaurant on personal whim. Parking is not difficult. Street parking is free after 6 p.m. Food is fantastic! Charcuterie board comes with four types of meat, three of which, fuet, pardon pepper salami, morcilla Iberia, are sausage meat. Coppa Secca, my first time trying this, leaves me a great impression. It’s less fatty but more firm than prosciutto (I know comparing them might be a bad idea, but this is what I have been think when I was eating it). Oyster mushrooms are superb! They are cooked perfectly with butter. After stirring it with yolk, the entire table is just shrouded under its aroma. It is almost a blessing of having it in front of me. The bread comes with it is crispy which makes a nice company. Softshell crab is a another gem. The crab itself, the seasoning inside, and the sauce on the side, all make the dish full of flavor. For the large plate, I was thinking roasted chicken over rice might not be anything special. It turns out that I was serious wrong. The chicken is so well-seasoned that every single bite is full of flavor. Meanwhile, it is roasted to perfection as its skin is crispy and its meat is succulent. The drumstick, thigh, breast, and wing’s third-selection are severed over paella, while the rest of the meat are shredded and cooked with rice. This dish needs 35-40mins to cook and it is absolutely worth the wait! When time is passed through having conversations with friends and enjoying tapas, it’s finally arrival undoubtedly creates the most exciting part of your dinner. The only downside is that it tastes a bit salty. Finally, after all those food and drink, everyone in my party are absolutely stuffed. But we still want some dessert. I feel lucky that we ordered churros. They are freshly made, light, chewy, not too sweet. The chocolate fondue comes with it is just a heaven sent gift; it pairs so well with the dessert and gives a wonderful closure for the dinner. Services are also fantastic. Staff is passionate about introducing the menu, checking on us, and being prompt to responding to our requests. Will definitely come back for all the other items on the menus. I believe all of them must be...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience here. Heard great things about the place and had family visiting from out of town so we were excited to dine here. Made reservation weeks ahead. When we got here, our name was put under a diff name and there was a confusion about our reservation even though Open Table sent us the reminder text literally 30 min before that our table was ready. When the hostess finally sat us, we were placed at the very back table next to the kitchen even though there were plenty of tables available and the restaurant was only about half full at that point. When a waitress came by to our table we asked if we could move the table, at which point she “looked into” it with a hostess then told us that this was the only table they could “squeeze” us in. Um we weren’t just walking in, we made a reservation weeks ago. This really was off putting, and we asked to speak with the hostess, at which point then we were basically ignored for several minutes, no hostess to be seen, just crickets, while that waitress basically left our table and didn’t come back to communicate us about what was going on. We finally had to get attention of another waitress to explain the situation. This waitress was much more understanding of our frustration and helped us get a different table and apologized. After that the experience was much more smooth and the food itself was good. But honestly the initial experience where they completely dropped the ball in service was unacceptable. It’s one thing if they clearly explain the mistake on their end or have manager/hostess fix the situation, but another to be completely dismissed with no communication. If it weren’t for our new waitress who was fantastic who made up for what otherwise was rather unpleasant experience I would have given 1 star. They did take off dessert from the bill which was a nice gesture. Food and ambience was fine but the whole experience still left us a sour taste and makes us hesitant...
Read moreTL;DR if you're a fine dining snob, this may be the place for you. If not, while the atmosphere is immaculate, ask yourself, do you want to spend $90 per person on 6-8 small plates of fancy food, just for the vibes or to say you did it? I'm good with just coming here once.
I really did have high expectations, and maybe false expectations for this restaurant and it could be my fault totally. I love Spain and have been there a few times. I've been told that Morcilla is authentic Spanish cuisine, but I would not agree. It feels like the Spanish part is simply the Spanish words on the menu. It's seems more Spanish inspired or American Spanish fusion.
If you have watched the horror/psychological thriller "The Menu" (2022), this place is giving that vibe (not the murderous parts but the over the top fine dining aspect lolol)
My partner and I have gone to a few fine dining restaurants in pgh and this one, we probably will not return to. We spent ~195 for 6 small plates and two drinks, plus tip and weren't really satisfied. We only really liked 3 of the 6 small plates and even the ones that we liked, there were things on the plate that just seem extra. I get the appeal for fine dining snobs (I don't mean that in a derogatory way) but we are not that. We just like good food. I'd rather spend $20 less to go to Monterey Bay and enjoy a meal (and I know it's not exactly comparable, as morcilla is primarily tapas but still).
Now, the service is amazing!!!! Loved our server. And the atmosphere was great, as well. It is a cute restaurant. However, I just couldn't get past what I thought wasn't really Spanish cuisine/tapas and the tapas we had were just so over the top. Perhaps we just chose wrong but I wouldn't come back to try again. I am still glad that we tried it put at the...
