The location is beautiful inside and out. To start, guests enter through a beautiful open courtyard with french music playing, a fountain, and yellow stripped awnings.
The entrance area features a long bar. I loved the touches of gold and the antiqued mirrors in the bar space. Tip: its first come first serve, you can order a full meal and its empty on Pens game nights.
The design and decor truly brings this small spot to life. I love the gold light fixtures, blue hues and white marble throughout. The bathroom houses my dream sink + faucet, and there's many beautiful mirrors throughout the space.
We enjoyed a few starters or "petit plats." Including the french onion soup made with braised oxtail, cognac veal stock and emmental, gruyere cheeses. The best part is the floating bread smothered with cheese and crisped flowing over the edges of the bowl. Definitely rich and could be a meal in itself. Also enjoyed the mussels in a creamy sauce with fennel, garlic, white wine and fresh herbs. They were unfortunately served lukewarm.
For a main dish we shared a 12oz prime NY strip paired with cognanc pepper sauce and pommes frites. Steak and french fries are already a great combination, but at Poulet Bleu this was an extra special treat. I really enjoyed the tender steak and the flavorful red wine caramelized onions it was served with. The super skinny frites were delicious, crispy and salty.
For dessert we indulged in the already famous chocolate souffle. It's a fun pouf of chocolate served with accompaniments banana ice cream, cherry compote, candied pineapple, chocolate sauce, and a delicious creme anglaise.
I can't wait to return to Poulet Bleu! I've already made a lists of things to try, like the cheese plate and the...
Read moreAmerican bistro with a heavy French inspiration. The food is rich, complex, and leaves you wanting to come back. The drinks taste good with enough twists and special flairs to them that it feels like a whole new drink even if you have had similar drinks before.
I have been to Poulet Bleu twice now and both times I have structured my meal as a drink, appetizer, entrée, dessert, and coffee to wash it all down. I would highly recommend the cocktails, as the mixologists are skilled and know how to make drinks that seem novel and unique every time. The appetizers are filling and are the perfect size for getting your appetite ready for the main meal. I am a fan of simple bread with butter but there are some more unique dishes on there to explore. The main entrees seem small in size, but I guarantee you will be full due to the richness of each dich. I would refrain from suggesting chicken, only because they cook the white and dark meat at the same time, resulting in dry white meat but great dark meat. No amount of basting in butter will fix that so maybe go for the duck and fish dishes instead. The dessert has great options, but I cannot say no to the soufflé for two. It does have a 25 - 30 minute bake time, which is perfect for digesting your entrée and drinking some coffee to get ready for dessert. But I will add, if you like your coffee sweet, ask for extra milk and sugar because I am of the opinion that they do not give enough. The soufflé comes in a large ramekin with ice cream and some garnishes. After the wait, all of it goes down easily and deliciously.
I highly recommend this restaurant and would encourage...
Read moreI had the mussels, bistro salad, chateaubriand, souflée and beignets.
Let me say that the mussels were among the most delicious that I've ever tasted in my life, and I love by the ocean. The sauce was exquisite, with fresh dill and whole red peppercorn that was a party in my mfing mouth.
The chateaubriand was... I'm not a meat connoisseur by any means but to ME it left a little to be desired. The bone marrow was salty and not subtle, I could hardly taste the marrow under the salt. Ordered medium, came medium rare. Was unimpressed by both the flavor of the meat and the sauces they were served with..
The salad was simple and delicious. The freshness of the lettuce & radishes were perfect with the slight bitterness of the dressing. It tasted like what you need on a summer day.
The souflée was amazing to me; to my partner, not so much. However, to ME it tasted like a warm chocolate hug. Paired with the vanilla ice cream and the fresh berry sauce, it was exactly the type of decadence that you say 'that was worth it to'.
If you have children in your party, definitely order the beignets for dessert.
The coffee tasted like I had been lied to about what coffee was supposed to be my whole life.
The salted caramels made in house that came with the check were a delight and a surprise.
The server was amazing, handling the entire night with grace and pivoting easily when FIVE additional people joined our table.
All in all, a wonderful...
