The food was good, but the manager was very rude. I ordered Two Eggs/Short Stack for $11.39. The menu indicates "Extra items for pancakes are an additional charge" but does not list the specific charges. I upgraded to the cherry and walnut pancake and was prepared to pay for extra ingredients but when the bill arrived, I was surprised that I was charged $3.29 for each ingredient: so a total of $6.58 for the cherries and the walnuts which brought the total price of the dish to $17.97. I told the waitress this seemed very high and she said she would talk to the manager. I waited at the table for a few minutes, but when she did not return, I went to the front desk. The waitress was there with two other people. One person – who I found out later was the manager – said “We took it off this time, but next time you should know this is the price!” I said that $6.58 seems very high for a few cherries and walnuts, and I asked that she bring it up to the manager because this price does not make sense. I showed her on the menu that if I ordered a full stack of cherry and walnut pancakes ($12.99) and a side order of two eggs ($2.69) the total price would have been $15.68 - $2.29 less than what she charged me for two eggs and a short stack of cherry & walnut pancakes. The manager got very defensive and said this is the new menu and this is what Nick decided. I said “What I am asking is that you bring this up to him because this pricing does not make sense”. In response, she accused me of mistreating the waitress and herself and stated that if I don’t like it I don’t need to come back to the restaurant.
Prospective customers need to be aware of the customer service level at this restaurant and that they insult their customers.
I hope the owner is reading this review and will take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation, such as: Specify the cost of the extra ingredients on the menu Make the price reasonable, so the price of ordering Two Eggs/Short Stack of cherry & walnut pancakes is not higher than ordering these dishes separately. If the cost is higher servers should alert customers to the less expensive option Retrain this manager in customer service and...
Read moreThis place is a solid 3.75 stars rounded to 4 stars because of the FOOD. (Extremely packed for a Sunday with around a 10 min wait, good for them, and the wait was not an issue for us and we did not mind waiting)
The Pros: Food is delicious for the most part, the Pecan Waffle ($10.69) and the Ruben sandwich (price forgotten $10 something) (definitely remember to add the fries (around $3), they are well worth it) we ordered was OUTSTANDING (will come back alone for that).
The large specialty omelet called (So Cal $13.99) was fine (not really enough to write home about in my opinion, it was an omelet with a lot of hash browns, probably will try something else other than that next time). The portions are extremely good. I also recommend the hot chocolate.
The Neutrals: The service was good for a very busy restaurant, and the food was out very quick and did I mention most of it was delicious!
The Cons: Upon walking in you are not greeted and the person checking people in comes off as gruff / indifferent to all people equally. A smile goes a long way, but they are so packed and the food is extremely good so this may not be their focus point, kind of assuming the one checking people in is likely the owner. Everyone is different doesn't mean its good or bad some people just have that type of personality.
Things To Improve: They are so busy its not the cleanest place in the world (not an issue for us because the food was quite good). I really like they have the condiments available on the table, would recommend adding jam packets to the table, it could increase efficiency when people don't need to ask for them. Some items are priced on point for the portion and COVID times we live in, other items are about a bit over priced likely due to COVID shortages.
Conclusion: Go here, food is AWESOME, they have few things to improve upon but in the grand scheme of things those things are trivial, you'll love the food! I will definitely go back and DO...
Read moreWARNING: FLOOR IS DANGEROUS – NOT SAFE FOR ELDERLY OR DISABLED CUSTOMERS
This restaurant’s tile floor is extremely slippery—so bad I had to shuffle just to avoid falling. I’m an able-bodied adult and I could barely walk safely. If you’re elderly, have mobility issues, use a cane or walker—do not risk walking in this building.
I talked to the owner, Nick, and he was completely dismissive. He blamed the humidity and said the only solution would be to carpet the whole place, which he claimed was “too expensive.” That’s it. No plan, no concern, just excuses.
I explained I’ve worked on this exact flooring at another Big Boy location, and I know it can be cleaned properly. I suggested using degreaser, hot water rinses, and putting down mats in key areas to stop grease from being tracked everywhere. He refused to listen. He flat-out ignored it and wouldn’t take even basic advice.
This isn’t a new issue either—people have been complaining about this in reviews for years, and Nick has done nothing. Someone’s going to get seriously hurt. It’s not just bad business—it’s negligent.
Nick, if you’re reading this: wipe the bottom of your shoes after sitting down. Are they humid or greasy? Exactly. Fix your floors.
I’ll check back next month and update if anything has changed—but I’m not holding my breath.
