I've been coming here for years and the food and drinks have always been good, but last night all of that was ruined by terrible service. We had a variety of issues with our waitress:

-I ordered a beer and was told that the keg ran out, so I ordered a different beer instead. Rather than bringing out the new beer I had ordered, I got about 6 oz of foam and beer from the end of the first keg. This ended up being the only beer I got, because our waitress did not show herself to offer me a new one until long after I had finished my first bit of beer and our food was arriving. Instead of comping the half beer she gave me, I was charged for an $8 strong IPA. When I brought it to her attention, she gave me a bad attitude and took half off the beer.

-they split my plate without me asking or wanting it split with my fiancée, who I ordered for. This would have been alright had they not charged an exorbitant split plate fee for this unwanted service.

-another person ordered a salad with dressing on the side, and it came out dressed. The waitress refused to apologize for this mistake or offer to bring out the salad as it was ordered.

-they forgot pickles on all the salmon burgers at the table. Wouldn't have been a big deal if the waitress would have come out to see if we needed anything before our food was cold and half gone.

-after I left a bigger tip than the rude incompetent waitress deserved, the manager had the nerve to call us and ask about why the tip wasn't bigger. Instead of sympathizing with us and apologizing for the unacceptable service, he lectured us on how the other employees were effected when we leave a small tip. Although I do feel bad for the other excellent employees there, they need to take it out on the bad employee that ruined the experience rather than harassing the customer.

I truly hope that next time we come here it will be a completely different experience more like what we had come to expect from this restaurant in the past.

Update:

After discussing my experience here with many other members of the community, it has come to my attention that the managers daughter, who unapologetically provided my family and I with poor service and rudeness, has made a habit of harassing other customers who don't tip her as much as she feels entitled to. After learning that I am not the first or only person to be harassed for not tipping for poor service at this establishment, I am convinced that the manager has a serious problem with ethics and his relationship with his customers. By contacting us for any reason other than to apologize for all the ways that his daughter failed to provide us with adequate service, this manager crossed an ethical line and lost many loyal customers. This is not ok!

Tipping is optional and not to be expected, especially when you provide sub-standard service. If you fail to provide the basic level of service that satisfies your customers, it is INCREDIBLY unprofessional to harass the disappointed customer about not paying you extra for poor service. It is even more unprofessional for a manager to harass customers on behalf of his awful daughter.

To serve me half a beer I didn't order and charge me more than it is worth even after I bring it to her attention gis one thing (one of many, many things wrong with the service she provided us), but to try to justify that mistake and lie to her daddy the boss about how she treated my family is just shameful. This waitress and her daddy have no business in the restaurant industry if they feel entitled to harass customers over the phone and through social media for not paying them extra for their lack of adequate service.

Bad service with a bad attitude by this ridiculous failure of a father-daughter team will surely be the death of this otherwise great restaurant. Not coming back here until these professional failures no...

Walk from town if you are able. It's a lovely walk with great turn of the century architecture. Parking on street. Full bar. Inside is very dim and for safety we chose to eat outdoors as it was a warm evening. The tents they have set up are commodious, and the front tent we found to be far more attractive than the rear tent. Tent. The front tent had two water features and an outdoor fireplace. It would have been appreciated if they had turned on the fans for more air circulation as it did get quite hot. But dining al fresco on a hot night is a treat so we didn't complain or ask for the fans. The staff were very friendly, fast and professional. The chef special Ahi tuna did not taste special at all. At first. I tasted the fish to see what it was like and it was almost unpleasant. It was so plain. The chili oil was literally nothing special but the server had made a big deal out of it as if it was some special creation but it wasn't. What was delicious was the rice and that saved the dish. The grilled broccolini was okay as was the tasty grilled pineapple. If one mixed all the elements together then one came up with a tasty dish that had a southeast Asia flare. Almost like Thai food. We had three people, two of whom had cocktails and then white wine with dinner. The bill was over $200 with tip. It beat going to a diner and risking getting gluten contamination. The chairs are very uncomfortable outdoors. They do have old flimsy beaten down pillows on them but those need to be replaced immediately. It would be who them to also put pillows at people's backs because the chairs are metal. They seem to be doing a great business and there were many people there when we visited on a Saturday evening early October. Bathrooms were lovely and servers were happy to guide to find them. All in all a...

My Wife and I live In Placerville Ca., My selfI lived here about 30 years. we are always looking for GOOD restaurant In Placerville and surrounding areas.my wife and I dine out almost every night and we decided to give Independent another try. The restaurant is in very nice new building and inside is set up very well and they have nice full bar. We set at the bar and had couple of drink sand we got very good service by very nice Bar tender this was Wed night 7/9/2014 about 7;30. We decided to have Dinner,my wife ordered the Flank steak and I ordered the herb flavor baked Chicken, our orders cam e out very timely and looked ok. My chicken was very dry and it only had flavor on skin not chicken , but tried to eat some without say anything but gave it back, she did offer something else but lost appetite. My wife did not like her meal either but decided to say nothing, she did not want to be embarrassed. We got bill and they knocked 25% off my meal. we paid and Tipped well and when walking out door I took manager Robert aside and told him about are dinner,he never apologized and got very defensive so ask about the 25% off and and he proceeded to tell I ate 75% of meal, ,I Might of ate 25% of meal,at that time he told me he took bite of my Chicken and he said it was great. At this time a knew I was going nowhere with Robert and shook his hand and we walked out door.In my opinion Robert is a very poor manger and he does not know how to treat customers or people. I strongly recommend Bricks Restaurant just down road we been going there for years, they have great food for goo price and a manger that knows how to treat customers and people ! I always believe ungiving a Restaurant a second chance , this was the second chance , will never eat there again and very expensive ! Thank Dan...

this is my second time at the independent, and i will say that i love that they use fresh and local produce, and high quality meat and fish. it totally enhances the dining experience! so lets get into the details: FOOD if you’re an app person, HIGHLY recommend the summer caprese salad. i believe it’s seasonal, but wow.. those tomatoes were SO sweet with the perfect texture. i could’ve had a plate of those alone. the mozzarella with the fresh basil and maldon sea salt, topped with 12 year aged balsamic?! if your mouth isn’t watering reading that, go ahead and read it again 🤤 the caesar had the most amazing homemade croutons & the garlic chips are out of this world. the only reason i gave 4 stars is because my salmon was overcooked; it was pretty dry and $45, that’s really unfortunate 😩 the steak was cooked perfect and the mashed potatoes were absolutely divine! SERVICE Jake was our server and took excellent care of us. everyone made sure our waters were never empty, and made sure we were all set throughout the night! SEATING lots of indoor and outdoor seating. great for small intimate couples or large parties! the outside seating area is pretty large, and was perfect for our evening. PARKING there’s a small lot adjacent to the restaurant but plenty of street parking and a big lot nearby! overall, we’ll absolutely be back, and crossing our fingers (& toes!) that the caprese is still around! 😍

We had a wonderful date night this evening at the Independent. We started with the cheese appetizer. Blue, brie and another hard white cheese with toasted walnuts an amazing truffle honey and fruit. It was light, had amazing complimenting flavors and the presentation was fantastic. I had the old fashioned which was one of the best I've ever tried. My wife had a local Chardonnay that was recommended which she enjoyed. We both enjoyed the beef Wellington. It was cooked to a perfect medium. The pastry around it was soft buttery and crispy all at once. One guest next to us had the same and said he's had the dish at hells kitchen and says the independents rivals or surpasses at a lower price with a heartier portion. I particularly enjoyed the vegetables that accompanied the dish. Every restaurant serves the same broccolini or cauliflower with it's steak dishes. I was surprised to see corn, greens and peppers. For sides my wife had the polenta, creamy and cheesey! I had the Mac and cheese which was also amazing the baked crumbs on top were crunchy and the texture combination was as great as the flavor. We then had the most amazing pineapple coconut tart. I can't say enough about the menu and the options. It was a fantastic evening with amazing service and I can't wait to come back!

Update: food has been solid and I've been a handful of times since the first time. Service is good but can be a little slow when there are large parties (but they are very nice and they have staff who fill water so you're not thirsty!). My partner was stoked that they actually did a rare ribeye and really enjoyed it. Overall 5 stars! 6 years ago: Good service (thanks Maricela, hostess, and other gentlemen!). Glad we had a reservation because it was very busy when we arrived. The indoors was loud - would have tried outdoor patio except it was 104 degrees out! The food was good (rave reviews from group regarding the pork chop entree and ahi appetizer). They accommodated my food allergies and I had very nicely cooked salmon. My 6 year old ordered mac & cheese. He said it was so ugly that he wouldn't eat it, but after the others cannibalized it he tucked in and loved it. I would definitely go back and try it again!
