I will begin by saying I was a loyal customer of Happy Lamb prior to the transition over to this buffet bar style arrangement but am never stepping foot back in this vicinity again.
Before reopening with the buffet bar when everything was ordered through the waiter, there was still a level of quality in the food and service that was excellent. The broth was flavorful and the meat was fresh. The broth that I had tonight, the first time that I’ve visited since the buffet bar opened, was absolutely bland. The meat was also not of the same quality and the selection has been significantly reduced from their previous menu.
Their “buffet bar”, which looked nice aesthetically, was empty the entire time. My wife and I and the other patrons were constantly checking the buffet bar to see if the dishes and sides were replenished to no avail. The restaurant was hours away from closing so that was absolutely not an excuse. The sauce section was also dry and empty with no one refilling the entire time we were there. Completely unacceptable when the sauces are what complete the hot pot experience except there was no experience here. It was just everyone sitting staring at the buffet bar and then staring at each other in disbelief of what was going on, or lack thereof.
On top of all of this, my wife and I got very sick once we got home from the meat and vegetables cross contamination and improper cleaning. I question the cleanliness in the preparation of food in the kitchen after this experience.
I am so disappointed and disgusted of what Happy Lamb has become and highly advise anyone looking to dine here to completely avoid this place altogether and go enjoy an actual hot pot restaurant that values your experience,...
Read moreWent here for a birthday lunch today (Saturday early afternoon). We got the all you can eat (AYCE) hot pot. The food was pretty good but we left feeling hungry still. Service was alright at first and it was supposed to be all you can eat but the portions for each individual item were kinda small. I got the meaballs and they literally gave me four little meatballs. I had to flag the waitress down for more vegetables, otherwise she didn't come by or check how we were doing. Didn't offer more of anything. We waited another twenty minutes or so for more vegetables and then again didn't come by to check on us, give refills, anything. We were there for about an hour. The waitress came by to take an order, then to bring food, then I flagged her down, and the first time she actually came by to check if we needed more broth or anything, we asked for the check. I could understand the food taking a while if they had to cook it but it's hot pot so it cooks at the table. I could also understand if the restaurant was busy and we had difficult dishes but we primarily asked for vegetables and noodles. There are significantly better hot pot places with much much better service in the Dallas area for the amount you're going to spend here. It was disappointing and I actually left exasperated at the poor service. If you're going to come here for food, I suggest you...
Read more5/13/18 My family (5 of us) went here to celebrate Mother's Day. The restaurant not only took our reservation on the day of (I try not to do this as a courtesy), but it also gave us "Mama Day" discount and didn't charge my mom. My parents and I didn't know that Mongolian hot pots are usually all you can eat, so we just went along with what my sister-in-law ordered for us. When I realized that we could order whatever we wanted how much ever we wanted, I started ordering things that I've never had or heard before. (Don't overdo it though, because leftover will go to waste.)
It was the first time I tried Mongolian hot pot, so I'm not sure if all places do the following. The selection was decent: vegetables, meat, fish cakes, dumplings, buns, etc... I thought it was clever that there were 3 rounds of orders, even though the servers were helpful at other times.
My Korean family had to order white rice...we just couldn't do it without one. We also stocked up and stacked up on lamb meat, because that's hard to come by... I particularly enjoyed one of the appetizers made out of black mushroom--the seasoning went along really well with the ingredients.
Fun Fact: As I was searching the place online, I found the soup-base package that they used to...
