Dallas Food Adventure | Kooksoo Korean Noodle Soup

When we were first checking out Kooksoo online the combo's appeared to be pricey. What wasn't clear was that they're intended to serve two people which was explained when we arrived. Each combo comes with a rice dish and a noodle dish, think family style dining. I guess it's possible for one person to eat a combo, I can't imagine finishing one by myself. We also read, in a review, that the portions were small. I've bumped into this before in Korean restaurants. Kooksoo has a simple solution. Each of the combo's has the option to upsize. The noodle dish in our combo was $2.95 to upsize and the Bulgogi dish was $6.95 to upsize. We upsized both. When the food came, there was actually far more than we could eat. By recognizing combos are meals for two and, if you think you may want a little extra, just upsize instead of ordering another combo Kooksoo is very reasonably priced. So much for logistics...on to food. Today we had the Jjamppong Combo and upsized the noodle dish (soup) and the rice dish. The soup was excellent. The noodles were perfect, with just enough texture to be slightly chewy as fresh noodles should be. The broth was spicy (at medium spicy level) and rich, a very delicious broth. Our rice dish was Bulgogi. I've had so much Bulgogi in my time I couldn't imagine anything original. That said, Kooksoo proved me wrong. They stir fry roasted garlic into their Bulgogi. Because it's roasted, the pleasant taste of garlic is infused without being overpowering. Very good Bulgogi. We'll definitely come back the next time we're in the mood for Korean noodle soup or Bulgogi.

UPDATE 7/06/2024: We went back during lunch. It wasn’t crowded so the service was wonderful. Our food was good. However, they put the cart of all the dirty dishes next to us. I know this place is tiny, but I hope they rectify this and put it elsewhere, away from the customers eating. Overall, we will definitely return. ———— We were looking forward to some good Korean food as I was craving noodles. The pictures of this restaurant looked really appealing on Google. Inside, it was tiny but had cute decor. As soon as we sat down, the waiter told us to use the self-ordering system on the table, which I thought was pretty cool. However, the tablet was really slow. My husband ordered the galbi, which came on top of clear glass noodles. It was a huge portion and came out quickly, but it was tasteless and chewy. They only offered one side of kimchi banchan, which was disappointing because every other Korean restaurant I've been to offers at least four banchan. I ordered the spicy cold noodle soup, but it never arrived. After waiting for almost 30 minutes, I decided to cancel the order. This restaurant looked promising, but I'm giving it 1 star right now because the galbi was chewy and flavorless, and they only provided one side of banchan. I plan to return to try their noodle dishes and will update my review then.

How shall I start?? Been here a number of times and every time they will mess up on the experience horribly! Today, I called t to he restaurant at 7:53pm to ask if we should order the grilled chicken, King Ribs noodle and Bulgogi rice dish in advance and the lady that answered the call assured me that they have all the dishes I wanted and we could just come without making any reservation. Not once did she remind me that the kitchen closes at 8:15pm. When we got there at exactly 8:16pm they said that the kitchen is closed!! When I asked the lady who answered my call why she did not take my order over the phone or tell me that the kitchen closes at 8:15, she combatively said that if I had called at 8pm she would have let me know. Finally after talking to the two other guys there, they said that we could still order all the rice dishes and the beef noodles and since we were there, I agreed to the limited options. But guess what. After sitting down with my family for 5 minutes, they came back and said that they were not able to do the grilled chicken!! What a joke and this is not the first time that this lady had confirmed that they had the grilled chicken and it has been a lie and disappointment. When we said we want to leave, the guy seems all too happy that we were leaving. This restaurant is seating on their laurels and think that they are good at the service they provide but we have been let down many times because of their poor management skills. The waitress did not even apologize once for her poor attitude and should be fired for being so rude to...
