Shanghai Taste上海弄堂 — Restaurant in Plano

We came here after church looking to try something new—and wow, Shanghai Taste did not disappoint! Nestled in a shopping center full of Asian restaurants, this one truly stands out and exceeded all our expectations.

First off, the soup dumplings were incredible—bursting with juicy flavor. The pan-fried soup dumplings were equally delicious and had the perfect crispy bottom. We came as a group of seven, and their ordering system made everything super easy. You’re given a paper menu when you walk in, where you mark off your selections—perfect for splitting checks and keeping things organized. Love that!

We ordered a wide variety to share: • Scallion oil noodles (so flavorful!) • Fried shrimp and fried chicken (both crispy and well-seasoned) • Wonton soup and chicken fried rice (comfort food perfection) • And the surprise hit? Nutella and banana stuffed dumplings – absolutely mind-blowing! Your taste buds will thank you.

The space is on the smaller side, so I highly recommend making a reservation, especially for larger groups. We were able to sit seven comfortably, but calling ahead definitely helps. Despite the size, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming.

The service was excellent—attentive and friendly—and one thing I really appreciated was how clean and open the kitchen felt. You can actually see the chefs preparing dumplings through a window to the left as you walk in, which added a nice, authentic touch.

Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience, and we’re already planning our next visit. If you’re in Plano and craving dumplings, Shanghai Taste...

Just went there for lunch with the fam. YUM! Had the: 1) Smoked Fish special (cross-cut slabs of unboned fish pan fried with a sweet & savory "hoisin"-type sauce - only 2nd time my 19 y/o's liked fish and 1st time for my 21 y/o since fish sticks as toddlers), 2) Shanghainese Fried Rice with Pork (delish, almost like sticky rice), 3) Curry Beef with Rice Noodle Soup (good), and 4) Traditional Shanghai Juicy Pork Steamed Dumplings (yum).

Only complaint is serving sizes (except for the dumplings) were on the smaller end.

Very small dining room (10 small. tightly-packed tables) so be prepared to wait. We waited 30 min for 4 at ~12:30 pm on a Sunday).

Restroom was the cleanest, fanciest and most high tech - BY FAR - for a small, authentic Asian restaurant and above average even for nice western restaurants. Waitlist, ordering and payment processes were high tech also (kiosk check-in, text alerts, real-time website status (with # of tables ahead), and tablet payments). Host took our order while we waited to speed up the process. Can watch dumplings being made right next to waiting area.

I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Tony during my recent visit, and I must say that the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we sat down, he welcomed us with genuine warmth and professionalism, making us feel valued and well taken care of. He was incredibly attentive throughout our entire meal—striking the perfect balance between being present when needed but also giving us the space to enjoy our dining experience.

Not only did Tony demonstrate extensive knowledge of the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations that truly elevated our meal, but he also made sure that every detail was handled with care and precision. Our drinks were always topped off, our questions were answered patiently, and any requests we had were met with a smile and a can-do attitude. It’s clear that he takes immense pride in providing outstanding service, and it shows in the way he interacts with guests.

Service like this is rare, and Tony went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. I can confidently say that he set the bar for what excellent service should look like—professional, personable, and polished.
