Went for a later dinner on Saturday evening. Immediately sat and was greeted by our server. She got drinks going and answered questions about the menu.
I ordered the Cuban Sandwich with a chopped wedge and a "cup" of chili as side dishes.
Salad came out first and I asked for their blue cheese vinaigrette as the dressing. Salad looked as if it didn't have any dressing at all, however, mixed the salad up and BOOM, there it was! The flavor of the vinaigrette was outstanding, the large pieces of bacon and the pickled onion really made this chopped wedge a top notch dish. 5/5
With regards to the chili, you will rarely see a chili in Texas that has beans in it, and I'm not a fan of beans in chili. Being a chain restaurant, I'm guessing they ship the same stuff to all of their locations. With that said, the beans are black beans and they tend to make the chili taste differently than a chili with kidney beans, typically giving it a sweeter taste. The chili was a 4.5/5. Was very hearty and filling, extremely flavorful, and the "cup" is actually served in a smaller sized iron skillet.
The Cuban Sandwich unfortunately left a bit to be desired. It like more like a grilled cheese with meat in it. The ham was very skimpy, the pork shoulder was good and plentiful, the pickles were delicious, and their Liquid Blanket® IPA mustard was THE BOMB! Unfortunately, sourdough bread isn't what should be used for this sandwich. The idea for the sandwich is there, especially with that stupidity of a mustard which makes it different already, however a better bread choice would really make this sandwich insane. 3/5
As a first time visitor to Lazy Dog, they delivered the waffle cut potato chips at no charge. Great chips and not overwhelming for a "snack" as you wait for your meal. 5/5
Food = 4.375/5
Service was a 5/5, despite being a later dinner seating, there was energy in the restaurant, albeit not too loud to where you couldn't have a conversation with your dinner mate across the table.
There's a reason why this store is rated at 4.5 on Google on 4.2k reviews (at time of my review)!
Will be back for...

We're from out of town, San Antonio to be exact, and we don't have any restaurants that even come close to the consistent delight and affordability that this place offers. Whenever we're in the area, visiting Lazy Dog Restaurant is a must.
I've tried several dishes here, including the fish and chips, which were damn excellent. My husband went for the chicken katsu sandwich. On another occasion, I had something akin to a Nashville chicken salad, which was damn delicious. I must note that it leaned a bit on the sweet side, which I didn't mind initially, as I enjoy a mix of sweet and savory, but there were just a tad too many sweet elements - the walnuts, the dressing, and even the cornbread.
However, the chicken provided a good damn balance. They also had this fantastic natural hot sauce. We couldn't resist the butter cake, and I also indulged in The Wine Sampler. I particularly fell in love with the white peach wine; it was exceptional.
The service at Lazy Dog is consistently top-notch. There's never a moment of damn disappointment. The only minor drawback is that the parking lot can be a bit dark.
Nevertheless, I have to give this restaurant a five-star rating because it's just exceptional. I don't think this has ever happened before, but have you ever had a restaurant chain be so damn good that it had you reconsidering if you should just move down there to the area it's in because it's...
Read moreWas a total letdown from service to food- subpar experience. Their 4.5 doesn’t match reality. Chose this place after a busy Sunday to grab a bite with my family as it boasts an eclectic American fusion menu, in a chill way. But I think they have fused more than they could carry out tastefully.
They are palate-blind in that kitchen and they’ve butchered the meaning of Umami. If the restaurant’s bbq ribs are blah, the Brussel sprouts are over salted, the burger is more appetizing at BK and a seared tuna bowl is a scoop of old sticky rice and not so great tuna (that wasn’t even fully cut into pieces) with plain soy sauce, then what’s the point of offering food galore? Pick a few dishes and perfect them rather than mix “mexican and continental”😅
Service: i would not leave even 10% let alone 20%. I actually offered to leave the place after we sensed that our server (whose name we didn’t catch, a big tall guy with dark hair) was very sloppy and aloof. Don’t care attitude with full intention to get 20% tip: didn’t ask how the food was, didn’t apply the discount, not to mention the restaurant was dead for Sunday afternoon. This place is not worth the stop. The place looks dingy and outdated, oversized American outfashioned sports bar. Hopefully they’ll use feedback to better their new venture in Garland, TX.
P.S. I don’t post many bad reviews but when i do...
