Becoming another 1418 Coffee (and not in a good way)...as others have mentioned Lemma took the place of XO Coffee. I live in a neighborhood 0.4 miles away and myself and my neighbors often frequent downtown Plano for brunch on the weekends. We love supporting the small businesses in our community! I love the simple menu here, the staff is always incredibly friendly, and the coffee is wonderful. What I see happening now at Lemma is the same situation I run into every time I stop in at 1418. I no longer go to 1418 as a result. People on their laptops are now taking up every available table and they sit for hours leaving no seating options for families or couples who want to sit down and enjoy a meal. Today in fact there was a girl using two tables: one for her computer and one for her notebook. We were a party of 4 hungry adults with a baby in tow and wanted to sit down, visit, enjoy coffee and some breakfast sandwiches. We ended up leaving. I have also been here several other weekends and seen the exact same scenario play out for other customers. It is very frustrating. I know Lemma probably doesn't necessarily care if they lose my business but we will not be back anytime soon. When this was XO we rarely saw anyone on a computer and could usually find a table or another party that was finishing would offer...
Read moreThis coffee shop is a total vibe. It's an airy and cozy little spot with laid-back staff, incredible brew and delicious snacks and pastries. I am not typically the person who can just sit in a coffee shop and 'chill' (thanks ADHD), but we spent over an hour in the shop just relaxing and enjoying the ambiance. This would be a great place to grab coffee with friends or even for a first date.
I had gotten the Maple & Cinnamon latte, which was perfectly balanced. It was actually my first time ever getting latte art, so it was such a sweet surprise to see when they brought my cup over to my table. My husband got a coffee with charcoal and orange peel, and wow - I had never thought to add orange to coffee before, but it was absolutely fantastic and has me craving to go back for more. Our avocado toast and nutella & fruit toast were just as amazing as our drinks. The strawberries on the toast were so fresh and sweet, and the drizzle of honey was a perfect touch.
What had initially drawn me to the spot was their gothy skull mug logo (it's not a phase). I ended up loving the vibe and coffee so much at Lemma, I actually bought a shirt donning the logo. They have a few different items you can purchase should you become a new...
Read moreSpeaking strictly about coffee— this establishment so far exceeds local competition it is undeniable. Customer service has been incredibly kind as well—running my drink to my car after I paid because my little one was asleep in the back seat. I feel oddly seen when I ask for a vanilla latte and don’t have to ask for “half sweet” because the baristas know to not overload the drink.
I am just beginning my patronage at Lemma and can say I have consistently received the SMOOTHEST shot of espresso I have found in Plano, whereas other locations are a “hit or miss” depending on baristas. Every drink I’ve gotten is absolutely a treat for someone of my unfortunately high standards.
The seating and atmosphere lend themselves more to an Internet cafe as the seats are wooden and tables are small. I appreciate the coffee bar being in the middle as it lends itself to their ethos being so passionate and focused on their product.
I am back to add that they have a changing table in the women’s restroom and as a mother of young children that is VERY considerate and shows they are family...
