This is the only Mediterranean restaurant in this area which is open until 11pm. I liked with the food and the portions. This is a fast food kind of Mediterranean restaurant. Everything is made and kept and you choose what you want ; like in Chipotle or Panda Express. The seating is small with just 4 round tables and a couple of high chairs along a wall. The crowd mostly came to pick up orders. So the ambience is not great. Coming back to food, we ordered a Chicken platter , hummus (which came with a pita) and falafel sandwich. All of it tasted good and portions great. The price is average and presentation okay. The service is quick like in a fast food restaurant like about in 5 min all my orders were in my hand. The place could do better in terms of cleanliness and ambience. Probably the owners do the job themselves coz I couldn't see any outside employees. This place would become better if professionally operated because right now it does not have either the warmth of home business or the professional touch. But I have rated it in terms on food taste, portions and service which is good. NB: They serve a number fresh juices which I couldn't taste this time but will come back for it.

I recently visited this gyro spot and was genuinely impressed especially with their lamb gyro rice bowl. The portion size was more than generous definitely great value for the price. The bowl came packed with perfectly cooked rice and a hearty serving of meat that was juicy, flavorful and seasoned just right. Every bite had a satisfying balance of spices and you could really taste the quality and care that went into the preparation. What stood out most was how tender and succulent the meat was not dry or overcooked like you sometimes find at similar places. The rice was good and complemented the meat beautifully. They also included just the right amount of sauce to enhance the flavor without overpowering it. The service was quick and friendly and the food was hot and fresh. This place clearly takes pride in what they serve. It’s not just fast food but a comfort food done right. If you’re craving something filling, flavorful, and satisfying the lamb rice bowl here is a must try.

I've never been to a place that sells gyros that has their lamb meat in a ground meat form. I even asked him about this and he said they used ground meat--even though the pictures on the outside of the restaurant have the traditional gyro mean in a pita! What is up with that? The meat was not good, and the guy who took my order looked confused when I asked for a lamb gyro with fries. Upon further inspection of the menu, the only thing on the menu that has the word 'Gyro' in it is 'Gyro Fries' (whatever that is). They ought to change the name of this place from 'The gyro shop' to something else. The finished product was somewhat edible, but it tasted nothing like any Gyro I've ever had. You also have to pick your own ingredients, and I made the mistake of asking for Feta for an additional $2 I found out. So what I ended up with was a sandwich with ground lamb meat, fries and a coke for $17.49. Never again.

Located in the heart of Plano, The Gyro Shop offers a delightful culinary experience that satisfies both the palate and the soul. Specializing in gyros and chicken over rice, this humble eatery has quickly become a local favorite, and for good reason.

The star of the show at The Gyro Shop is undoubtedly their gyros and chicken over rice. Each bite is a perfect harmony of flavors and textures. This place is just so-so. Take it from me i have eaten Gyros from all over the world. The gyro meat served here are not sliced from a rotating skewer as is the traditional way, but is chopped up. The portion size is sufficient for 1, but just about. The taste is decent, not bad, but nothing to rave about. The place offers platters which is served in a 6 inch size aluminium foil takeout bowl..with rice and an array of vegetables as a base topped with gyro chicken or lamb and beef meat and topped with the a choice of one or a mix of 3 sauces. The restaurant concept is simple but minimalistic in nature. There are basically just 2 choices...a platter or a sandwich..and if you are planning a takeout, you can be out of the place in less than 5 min. The fountain drinks are not self serve and even for water, one has to request it from the server from behind the counter, which seems lame. Not a single spoon on the self serve cutlery stand...should have had this when rice is a base for the gyro platter??? Waffle fries are decent and available for around $2.50 There are about 5 small tables and a couple high tables. The server who prepped my food couldnt even pronounce the very food he served...and kept saying "jiro"...seems the owner should prep the staff specially when ithe word is the restaurant's name. Overall, just ok...i cant say i would...

Im gonna be honest, I used to dislike this place. I knew someone that worked there so I got to eat it fairly often. It was inconsistent and just wasn't that great, maybe 2 stars on a bad day or 3 stars on a good day. But as time went on the place has gotten much better. Maybe since they are more well known so they push out food faster, thus it's fresher but the quality has improved. It's like a subway or chipotle im which you pick whether you want a bowl or wrap, then you choose your protein, then whatever stuff you want from the salad bar. With a simple concept like this, freshness is important. The rice is better cooked, the meat is never burnt, and all extra side dishes like fries and stuff are all made to order so they are never cold or soggy. They also added some new items and overall the atmosphere is less grimy.

While the food is simple and kind of "plain" the food is rather tasty and filling and especially if you get the bowl a great value. I love their falafel too, and it's actually formed and fried to order as opposed to frozen patties. Just a word of advice to whoever orders, ask for sauce on the side since they are a bit heavy handed in the sauce. Their hot sauce is great btw! They also have chapli kebab which is a heavily spiced meat patty, which is a unique and tasty item that I...
