Very disrespectful and extremely poor customer service. Proven discriminatory behavior from the management to hostess/front desk levels.
On the first visit, we were asked by a server if we minded waiting longer than the 20 minutes so he could serve patrons whose ethnicity looked like his even though they came in after us.
Absolutely not!
Second occasion, we purchased food from the neighboring store to al Salaam restaurant and went over to al Salaam to eat. The table on The outside of the restaurant was dirty so we requested it be cleaned. This took some time. Then we asked for some oil to dip our bread we had purchased from the neighboring establishment and it took almost half hour to serve us something that could have been done in less than 5 minutes.
When asked how much longer, the hostess first put her finger up to signify just a moment. After waiting for a significant period of time, we asked again how much longer and the response was her walking away to get the oil as well shaking her head in disgust.
This was the last straw. I requested to speak to the manager and she pointed out the same server who was very rude upon our first visit. Reluctantly, I shared the recent experience with him and he proceeded to dismiss the complaint without any proper investigation or exploration into the matter.
He offered no apologies and stated the hostess was busy and forgot to bring the oil. In the meantime a quick observation of the dining area revealed a scantily filled restaurant.
The behavior by both hostess and manager reflected unbridled contempt and clear discrimination!
Dissatisfied with the outcome of the report to the so-called manager, the matter was brought to the attention of the owner of the establishment who stated, “if she could find a replacement for her workers today she would!” She clearly in No uncertain terms admitted verbatim, “I know they have no customer service.”
To add insult to injury the perpetrator of the worst customer service I have experienced in a dining establishment in the United States of America, the same hostess comes out with a tray containing a carafe of what resembled tea or coffee, sugar and cream sets it down on the table. Of course we did not partake of this liquid because the outside of the carafe was greasy and filthy looking nor did we know if this was a gesture of good faith for the terrible customer service.
In short, we left the establishment.
This is a warning to anyone who does not resemble the majority of persons who dine here.
Before you think of spending your hard earned dollar at this establishment know that your customer service experience is worth much more than having food in your stomach and eating it in a totally disrespectful...

I walked in and ordered my soup as I sat down, as per usual, and decided to glance at the menu despite the fact that I always know what I want for my main course - the vegetarian sampler. As soon as I did, I noticed a price hike from $18.00, which I paid here just a few weeks ago, to a whopping $25!!! That's pretty close to what my bill used to come to for the sampler, soup, tax, and tip and now it's simply the price of the sampler. Did the price of chickpeas go up that much? Inflation is usually about 2%, so sometimes 4% price hikes are reasonable - even as much as 10% but they added $7 to the same menu item and it doesn't come with anything extra. That is absurd, outrageous, and offensive, especially to regular customers. I canceled the soup and walked out and will probably not return unless I find a treasure box in the near future. Even the soup went from 350 to $5 but $5 is still very reasonable despite the fact that it is a 50% price hike. I can't justify paying almost $40 in total for a vegetarian sampler and a small cup of soup even if it was a five star restaurant.
I recognized for a couple years now that in an effort to sell more beverages they've been telling customers that a glass of water isn't an option / available because they don't have drinkable water, which is obviously a lie considering all water that comes from the tap in Florida is drinkable and they must have potable water in order to run a restaurant legally for such reasons as preparing food and washing plates. This is an act of dishonesty and quite underhanded on their part but I've put it aside due to how much I like the place but this price hike is the nail in the coffin.
Original Review:
We have been eating here for many years. The food is EXCELLENT, and in fact improved recently (change of chefs it seems). The service, however, drastically declined. The last three times the waiter seemed bothered by even our mere presence let alone any/everything we asked for (basic things, like napkins, brrad, etc). On one of the occasions we were the only table in the restaurant around 8pm amd sat with empty appetizer plates on the table yhrough the whole meal, waiter never came back to check on us once after delivering the order, For "some reason" they started adding gratuity for tables of two (mqybe they know with this type of service many would skip the tip). It's sad yo see such a decline in service, but the food is...
Read moreI called Alsalam restaurant on Friday at 3:00 pm to make a reservation for iftar (dinner)at 8:15 pm the lady ask me for how many people and I told her 2 adults and 3 kids, she then asked me about the kids age, and I provided her with there ages , she told me they will charge for the kids older than five, we show up at the restaurant few minutes before 8 pm, and the waiter ask me if I have reservation, and I told him my name, at that moment the owner came in and whispered some thing to the waiter looking at my kids then the waiter immediately mention that they going to charge the full price for all the kids( they never asked about how much they charge before) I told him that we called and what the lady told me, he said simply that the lady do not know anything!! I asked to speak to the manager(hoping for an apology and frankly I was willing to pay and move on) he came and said he can do anything because it is the weekend and he has a long waiting List, and he have to charge the full price, at this point I was concerned about an apology for the wrong information that was given to me over the phone, put the manager was so rude and refuse to provide an apology and take responsibility of the wrong information that given by his staff, he choose to lose a customer when he saw a waiting list and people willing to pay a full price over people with kids that he will charge lower price, We are a regular customers to Alsalam restaurant for over six years but this new manager or owner desperately need a customer service class to learn how to apology and talk to customers when they do mistakes. Very cheep and poor management , by the way one of the reviews here is written by the owner him self!!!...
