My first experience at Japan Inn — and it will definitely be my last.
I had family visiting from out of the country and wanted them to experience hibachi-style dining. I made a reservation a week in advance and included notes about dietary restrictions due to religious reasons.
Fast forward — I received confirmation via email and text, so everything seemed in order.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted and told our table was ready. As we were being led to the table, the greeter went to the back and a manager named Salma came out, seemingly surprised — possibly because we were not a group of White diners. She proceeded to tell us that it was busy, it was the weekend, and that she was “making an exception” for us, as they don’t usually separate tables. I asked her directly, “Are you able to seat us or not?” She continued with a speech about how she was doing us a favor.
Once we were finally seated and settled, I noticed that the restaurant was practically empty — a whole section was vacant, with only one party seated across from us, and another group wrapping up their meal. Within five minutes of sitting down, the soup and salad were served, followed shortly by the chef. The woman seated across from me even commented, “How are you guys getting served so quickly? We’ve been here for 20 minutes and haven’t even received water.”
Salma then returned again to repeat that she was accommodating us — as though she was doing us a favor by honoring the reservation. At that point, I began picking up my bag and told my family we were leaving. She then said, “No, no — you can stay.” I didn’t leave only because the chef had just arrived with the cart.
Then came another shock: LeeAnn, the server, came over and asked me what religion I was. The mistake I made was actually answering her. Everything felt rushed, as if they were trying to get us in and out quickly — despite the restaurant being practically empty.
The nerve. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. It was incredibly disrespectful and rude. If they know they cannot accommodate religious dietary restrictions, then they should not claim...
Read moreMy recent experience at Japan Inn in plantation was down right atrocious! The start of the experience was already rocky - we were sat at a table directly in front of the women’s bathroom directly under a leak, . When we asked if we can move, we were swiftly pushed into ordering drinks and food instead of rectifying our current issue. Me and my friend proceeded to just try to stick it out even if we were uncomfortable. As the cooking proceeded, the smoke was getting heavy and was building up on our side. Both of our eyes became irritated because of the smoke building up so we decided to move down a chair each. Caesar the mediocre cook, a fat sweaty mess with his hair up, took Offense to us moving to get away from the smoke, he began to berate my friend. Telling us what he couldn’t control - when we only moved and spoke amongst ourselves and never said a word about it him because we knew he couldn’t do anything about it. Caesar the pig intruded in our conversation to pick a fight. Caesar consistently berated my friend and I by telling us what he can and can not do - instead of just cooking as his job title suggest. Caesar also did not cook the chicken in our combo that was ordered and burnt our shrimp. If you ask me he seemed under the influence to be so boldly inappropriate as as if he knew his actions would have no consequence.Caesar also, made crude jokes in front of a family with a young child. Pinky was our server and no better! The experience was beyond piss poor, if I ever go back Pinky and Caesar will not have anything to do with...
Read moreBobsie is the BEST!!!!!! We went to Japan Inn last December to celebrate my mother’s birthday. It was a very special occasion particularly because she has been spending all her time taking care of our grandmother who was sick in the hospital. It was nice to give mom a chance to enjoy herself and eat amazing food with her family.
From the moment we walked in we were treated like vips. The restaurant was tastefully decorated for the holidays. It was busy but the staff was nice and we didn’t wait too long to be seated. That’s when we met the wonderful Bobsie! He was amazing!!! Professional, courteous, friendly, and a genuinely fun person to be around! He took great care of us. 2 in our party are vegan so he answered questions and made sure everything was perfect. When it came time to surprise mom with dessert, Bobsie was energetic and sung with us, the life of the party! It seems like it’s not a job for Bobsie. He is a warm caring human being that we had a chance to hang out with! My mother felt like a queen, and I want to say bravo to Bobsie for being incredible at his job and giving us outstanding service.
I highly recommend you ask for Bobsie when you visit. The food was delicious, and the hospitality and service was Divine, beyond measure. Thank you so much Bobsie, for being you, for your positivity, that is what makes a difference in this world. It’s not just a restaurant, it’s not just a birthday, it’s an experience in our lives, and we shared wonderful memories that will last a...
