Since they didn't respond to my e-mail (and I gave them over a week to do so) I'll post exactly what I sent them. I didn't change the pronouns to reflect a review of the establishment: I'd like to share with you my experience at Fiamma on Nov 23rd. My wife and I have been there several times before, as had the friends who met us from Farmington Hills. Usually our experience is good (that's mostly the food part of the experience). Last night was different. The food was still excellent, though still part of the story. For starters, we've had a waiter we've had a few times in the past, so he's been there awhile. I don't remember his name but our check number is 139992. My wife would probably recall more clearly our previous experience with him, but since last night is still fresh in my mind I'll talk about only last night. I know it's his job to up sell more items, but being clear about them would be helpful. Example. I ordered the Piedmontese Filet. It's fairly loud in your establishment so I heard "would you like anything on that, onions, mushrooms?" What that meant to me would be extra garnishment on the steak (even though asking about onions was odd after I had expressed my hope that the soup I ordered didn't have many onions, because if it did I wasn't going to get it and he said it didn't). I thought mushrooms on the steak sounded fine, so "sure," I said, "I don't mind mushrooms." Obviously this was an up sell as I learned when the dish was brought to the table. They were delicious, but had the question been "Do you want a side of mushrooms with that?" I probably would have said no. My friend called ahead about what you do on birthdays as we were out celebrating my birthday. She was told there was a desert for the birthday celebrant. When we told our waiter it was my birthday he never offered the additional information about what that meant. So instead, he brought the desert tray. He was nice enough to put a candle on the chosen desert (again, delicious), but never mentioned that it wasn't your birthday promotion. When the bill was brought and it was $8 additional that I hadn't planned on spending (again, another instance where I just wouldn't have gotten anything) your waiter said he'd have to check on what the birthday promotion was at the restaurant. He's been there long enough for us to know that is BS, so to our surprise we learned it was just a small cannoli that should have been offered. My friend who called felt bad and kindly bought the desert for me. Then when the checks were presented and he switched bills and cards even though we had put our own cards with our own bills in separate check carriers. WTF? For some reason I still gave a reasonable tip (regrets, I've had a few..) To top that off I barely made it home before the first of three trips to the bathroom with diarrhea. Needless to say, this doesn't bode well for us...
Read moreI visited Fiamma Grill on a Tuesday late evening. I went straight to the bar as I was by myself for the evening. The bar area was clean and not very crowded. They had an aucustic guitar player which was nice for a little background music. Even being close the the bar it was pleasant. The bartender, Sandy, was prompt and attentive. She told me of the specials and also informed me of restrictions to using a recent coupon if I intended to us one. I ordered a drink which was spot on and 6 oysters on the halfshell. They were clean and separated from the shell. I hate getting oysters with grit and totally connected to the shell, so off to a good start. A couple of them were small than expected but still good overall. I ordered the 8oz filet, mediun, which came with predetermined sides. I wanted to the sides so I did not ask for substitutions. The meal came out fairly quickly. Everything was very good and the filet was cooked perfectly. I realized my team was playing at that time and asked for the game to be put on one of the 2 TVs in the bar area. Sandy quickly made sure no one else was already watching what was already on & changed the channel for me. After eating, I decided on a dessert. This is the only hiccup of the night. It took a little longer than I would except to get the dessert but I was enjoying the game so I didn't real notice the delay. However, I did not get the dessert I had asked for. Apparently this restaurant is owned by people that have several restaurants in the area and some of the prepping for another location is done here. The kitchen supposedly had a new staff member and he prepared the wrong dessert. I accepted the one brought to me as it was close to what I asked for and actually something I had not tried so, why not right? It was good. I had a pleasant experience. I would...
Read moreOur party of 3 dined here 11/28. Our server was Cody. We were not greeted by him for at least 20 minutes. When he came to the table, there was zero pleasantries, just a brisk “what are we having”. We ordered a soda, and a bottle of wine. The only time he poured wine was the initial glass. The soda was never refilled. He came back several minutes later asking about apps. We ordered the whipped Brie (very skippable) the bread was neither warm nor toasted. We ordered entrees (6oz filet, Tenderloin tips risotto and lamb chops). It was at least 40 minutes for the entrées to appear at the table. Cody did not check on us, did not let us know the status of the food, and was generally absent from sight. When our food arrived, the lamb chops were absolutely raw. Cody again, did not check on us after a few minutes to make sure the entrees were to our liking. I had to go grab a manager. She came over, and was apologetic and nice enough. She offered us a glass of wine on the house (that I was then charged for). The my threw the same chops on the grill, which resulted in them being overcooked. It was not good. We asked for the bill to be split, and Cody said he would do the best he could. What server doesn’t know how to split a bill? Two of us ended up the appetizer and dessert and one ended up with nothing on her bill. At this point, we had been there for literal HOURS. 7:30-10:30…just wanted to get out of there.
My recommendation: skip Fiamma (or at least request a different server other than Cody), hit the Ledger. They have their act together, attentive staff and excellent dishes. Wished we had stayed there for our dinner instead of...
