I need to preface this post with the fact that the only people to blame for this horrendous experience is ownership and the ‘chef’. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Friday night in April, but the hostesses and waitress were still very friendly and made our experience pleasurable. My husband and I are VERY VERY low maintenance - we ordered chips and freaking dip for our appetizer. I watched the runner deliver our chips and dip to the table directly in front of my face. These people didn’t even have their jackets off, clearly they did not order the app. That’s fine. I watched these people stick their fingers all over the chips. Again not their fault. They flagged down the runner and said that they didn’t order it. The runner took the food to the kitchen and 30 seconds later came to our table with exact same chips and dip. I asked ’Are these the same chips and dip that the table over there got ?’ she said ‘yes but we gave you new chips’. I said okay no thank you can you just bring us out a fresh batch. She said sure. 2 minutes later she brings out the Exact. Same. Chips and dip. It was obvious because it was such a sloppy presentation and the cheese dip was dripping over the sides of the bowl. Our waitress was accommodating enough to take it off our bill but just a really, really bad experience overall. The chips and dip are basically Tostitos chips and dip, which makes this all even more frustrating. It’s so inexpensive, would it really kill you guys to simply scoop a new bowl of Tostitos salsa and chips?! Give me a break. Ordered a meal off regular dinner menu and was then told they were out of it. Ordered the surf and turf off regular dinner menu. Surf and turf as listed was a lobster tail with 6 oz Waygu sirloin. When the dish was brought to us, it was a lobster tail with 2 steak tips, which were not cooked the way we would have preferred. When we asked our waitress about it having steak tips and not the Waygu sirloin, she said she forgot to tell us they were switching it to 2 steak tips. She had the manager come over who said they did switch it, and was sorry. They took $20 off, but we should have been given the opportunity to order something different. They should have been upfront before we ordered telling us all of the items they were out of. We found them to be very unprofessional in not disclosing that. I was researching places for my upcoming rehearsal dinner and reached out to their owner, Lori, about having the dinner at their restaurant. She responded with pricing and shared that she would tentatively hold the date as I discussed this with my fiance before finalizing.
I reached out a week later letting her know that we were ready to book, just for her to tell me that they’d already given away the date without letting me know. Maybe i’m naive, but when you say you’re holding a date for someone, you would think they’d at least give you a heads up if they plan on giving it to someone else. She then proceeded to offer me an alternative solution where I could hold my dinner outside on their public deck, for 2 hours before they close.
It’s clear to me from this correspondence that Surfside Smokehouse doesn’t care about their customers or the importance of a big event like this. Planning is stressful enough as it is. Try thinking about the impression you're making on future...
