The staff and restaurant were great. I was greeted as I walked through the door, the restaurant smelled amazing, and the staff were friendly and hustling their butts off. It took them roughly 10 minutes from order to out the door. The owner even sat and talked to me for a moment about making pizza and about how he makes his dough fresh daily(which shows the dough could use a bit more time developing flavor from the yeast) the pizza all together was a solid pizza. At first I looked at the mountain of cheese impressed and noticed no color on it. The cheese was sooo much and I loved it but it never got caramelized on top at all so it was just flat melted cheese, the sauce at first I was lacking a lot of sauce because of all of the cheese and the plain crust, but the sauce was super sweet, so it was actually brilliantly balanced with less sauce. My big complaint though was that the pepperoni was completely lost. Every once in a while I caught a hint of pepperoni. The sweet sauce just overpowered the pepperoni, and the lack of sauce also made the pizza rather dry. I added Parmesan cheese and crushed red peppers to my remaining peppers and it cut the sweetness. All in all, if you are from the south side of Chicago, you would probably like this sauce. It reminds me of giordano's without the parm. You might want to ask for extra...
Read moreThey're not using the same bread anymore for their hot subs. They will tell you that they are but they are lying. I drove up to Pocatello from Utah for a hot sub. I hadn't been to Papa Kelsey's for over 20 years but was still craving the bread. The bread was always what made the subs amazing. When I got my sub, I instantly recognized that the bread was different just from appearance. While ok, the taste is now more like french bread. The thing is, I read a review somewhere over a year ago that they were using different bread now so I went to their Facebook page and asked them if it was true. They assured me that they are still using the original bread they have always used since the restaurant began in the 1980s. I was a regular Papa Kelsey's customer throughout the 1990s in both Colorado and Utah locations so I know what the bread is supposed to taste like. The waitress was really nice so I didn't complain to her. But I wouldn't have driven 150 miles if I had known it was different bread. So after I got home I contacted their Facebook page again and told them that the bread is not the same. And they are still insisting that it is the same original bread they have always used since the very beginning. What a...
Read moreWould give a 0 rating if it would let me. Ordered for pickup online and when my fiance went to get it they couldn't find the order. After waiting for 10 minutes until someone came up to the window and then was greeted by nothing but rude customer service. When the lady was reading the orders she had she couldn't pronounce one correctly (ours) so instead skipped over that order. When my fiance told her the correct name and she finally found it. Instead of apologizing she said, "Maybe next time get the name of the order before coming in." Sorry there won't be a next time. I Have been an avid Papa Kelsey's fan since I was little and that will be ending now. Horrible customer...
