I made an early morning reservation (around 9am) on 3/17 for dinner at 7:15p same day for my girlfriend's birthday.
I had to make the reservation on Resy, and some questions included occasion, allergies and special requests. On Occasion I put birthday, Allergies none and on special requests I asked for 2nd floor patio, with the best view of the ocean and scenery for the occasion to make it special for her birthday.
We arrived at around 7p, and got escorted to our "reserved table" immediately... to my surprise not at the second floor patio because "it's for special events" the hostess commented, not sure why a beautiful restaurant like this would limit their seating to the full venue... but I guess they know what they are doing.
As we walked through the dining room towards the outdoor terrace there were a few empty tables and We got sat at the back of the terrace with little to know view of the beach infront of a massive tree. Ignoring my request on my resy reservation for the best view possible.
My girlfriend ordered a margarita that took a little long to receive, the server apologized and explained that there was training going on, weird time conduct a training for a new bartender during dinner on a holiday evening but, we weren't in a rush so didn't mind the delay.
As we waited and enjoyed the ocean breeze and the view of the massive tree... there was a party next to us that was also celebrating a birthday, they brought them a sparkler and some type of dessert. Was looking forward to the same since I was preemptively asked on Resy if the dining experience was for a special occasion.
The food and service were pretty good. Table side tuna tartare was a little under seasoned but my girlfriend and I enjoyed our entree. When it came towards the end of the meal, the server asked if we would like anything else, I asked for an espresso, came to the table pretty quickly along side with the bill... giving me the hint to hurry to get the table rotated, even though we decided to come to this restaurant instead of the other locations near by for a birthday celebration. The espresso was cold and with zero "crema" the foam found on freshly brewed espresso. Must've been an older espresso was sitting out or some left over in the tin cup from a prior pour from the last batch...
We paid the bill, had the rest of our drinks and headed towards the exit. I decided to ask the hostess "what was the reason for asking all these additional questions during a reservation process..." she explained that is for them to review the occasion and accommodate as needed, I then followed with the scenario of a birthday, which she explained "we bring a slice on cake with a candle" so I said thank you for the information and walked away towards the exit.
All in all, don't expect anything spectacular dining here. Decent food and that's about it. Might want to check out next door for a slightly elevated...
Read moreUPDATE: July 14.2024 We went back to give them a chance to show us they could do better as they requested and used the $50 gift card they sent us. There was a huge difference. Chris our server was really good and on top of everything. He even noticed something not quite right when our food came out and he corrected it immediately! The night was much better than before and I’m changing the rating.
Recently we tried Oceanic and we were not impressed. A lot went wrong and management took steps to correct it but our overall opinion is we will not go back. We will instead enjoy the other great restaurants nearby. We had checked the menu and went specifically for the cauliflower entree. (We don’t eat meat) after we were seated it took forever for wait staff to come back(20 minutes) When we said we came specifically for the cauliflower entree we were told they were out (5:00 pm) Then we were told the chef would go into the next days batch and prepare one so we agreed it would go to my wife. When our food arrived the special cauliflower meal was nothing more than a head of bland cauliflower that was steamed. We were not impressed with this offering. Service the whole night was poor, very poor. As we sat there we couldn’t help but notice there were problems with orders all around us and management was very busy taking care of mistakes and wrong plates. The manager did make it right for us but overall it was not a good experience and we will not go back. We have much better experiences next door. I am making an edit. The restaurant responded to my review and stated they would like another chance which is fair. I do understand a bad night can happen for so many reasons and I did not want to be too harsh. I was told by email someone would be in touch in 24-48 hours. I heard nothing. I even responded back saying I was told you would be in touch but haven’t. Are you still planning on responding as stated? Well there has been no response in over a week. So I believe they have big problems, they don’t do as they say and “ wanting to have another chance” is just hot air. I lowered the rating to what it should have been based on our experience at the restaurant and we stick to our decision of not going back. There are much...
Read moreNot the experience I was expecting and it was unfortunate. Ordered rib dinner and lobster ravioli. Both meals came out. Lobster ravioli had 5 pieces. For the price they charged could have either given something with it or added a few more. No complaints on flavor or tastes. We added a side vegetable after the order came out. Let talk ribs now. You could peel the top of the ribs back. Like it was a hard crust to get to meat. After eating and thoroughly chewing the top part of the rib I asked a server to take them back. Basically they burnt them and hid them under sauce. My waitress came to the table with a menu and asked if I wanted to order something different. I was like no I ordered ribs. Unless you’re telling me you can’t cook ribs correctly then I order something else. I now get to watch my wife eat her meal while waiting for my ribs. Finally I get my replacement ribs. Cooked perfectly. Flavor on point. Done eating and get the bill. Took one look and asked for a manager. Interestingly enough during the interactions with the waitress about the first order a manager was sitting at a table near us eating. He was never informed about the issue. Place is 3/4 empty. So when bill came I asked for a manager. I’m it looking for a comp but I’m expecting by this time that someone should have addressed the issue. Waitress hunts done a sous chef based on his jacket labeled. I explain to him the situation and also explained to him I got to watch my wife eat. I got to watch the manager eat and then finally I got to eat. Asked him why the waitress assumed I wante a new item and brought a menu rather than asking first it not at all. Not understanding why no one came to the table to address the issue. Make this make sense to me. We got here about 3-4 times a year. Last time we had a small group of 11 in the back area where they put the curtain up and enjoyed ourselves. Never had an issue before. But I guess new people or new managers or something has changed but I expect better from this place as the reason we go back especially on special occasions like my birthday, which is why we were...
