Flavors of Jamaica — Restaurant in Pontiac

We ordered $72 worth of foods. The only thing that was good was beef patties and reggae punch. Jerk wings were burned. Jerk chicken meal was bad too. Rice and bean was dry and jerk chicken had no flavor. Same with goat curry, no flavor. Overall, waste of money. Never again.

Update 1: I read the owner's response under my review. Asbolutely unprofessional and a weak individual who can't take criticism. The owner of this restaurant doesn't know how to handle criticism, fix their mistakes and improve. He says I am affiliated with some restaurants and trying to tear them down. Absolutely untrue. Neither am I affiliated with any restaurants nor trying to bring them down! It's pretty pathetic and ridiculous that he would think that. According to his little, ignorant and shallow mind, anyone who writes a bad review about his food is affiliated with other restaurants and trying to bring them down. What an ignorant uneducated man! His response to my review alone should alert customers how they will handle complaints and issues with their food. So people be warned! You saw the owners response and reaction to my complaint. That alone is a red flag! He lacks professionalism and customer service skills. Poor excuse of a restaurant owner. CUSTOMER SERVICE 101: When a customer write a negative review, apologize for their experience and provide a solution and fix your mess ups and strive to improve like other businesses do. You attacking the custome because they wrote a negative review, is going to do you more harm to your business than good. Because now thousands of people get to see how you'll deal with complaints in the event there's some issues with your food . Also, I checked out how this owner responded to some of the other customers' "less than desirable reviews" here. He immediately got triggered and went into defensive and disrespectful mode towards the customers instead of actually be diplomatic and handle it in a professional manner. Grow up and learn how to operate a business.

Update 2: To the ignorant, shallow, pathetic and triggered owner! Originally, you falsely accused me of being associated with some other restaurants, because I gave feedback on the food that I purchased from you and spent $72. I explained what was the issue with the food without sugarcoating anything. That's my right! Neither is it my responsibility nor my obligation to give you a "constructive " criticism. I've mentioned the items that were good, and I've mentioned the items that I've had issues with. You do not get to dictate how I write my review or in what manner. You just went ahead and assumed in your shallow mind that I am affiliated with some restaurants, because I wrote a negative review. The funny thing is that I am not. And, I am not the only one who wrote "less than desirable" reviews. There are other negative reviews here as well. Otherwise, you would have a perfect 5 stars. But you do not! You have 4.5 stars which means there are some "less than desirable" reviews were on here already, like mine. So, you, in your small mind, must think they're all affiliated with another restaurant. You're indeed a shallow, ignorant pathetic and small minded delusional person. These aren't name calling. These are some great adjectives to describe your behavior you displayed on here. They're descriptions of your character and how poorly you conducted yourself as a business owner on here. I'm not sure what Karma has any relevance to someone giving an honest feedback about their food they received. You keep making yourself look worse as a business owner on this Google review site. Don't embarrass yourself anymore than you already have. Also, if you have common sense and logic , you would've known that I wouldn't have complimented the beef patties or the reggae punch, if I am affiliated with another restaurant and try to tear you down. I would've said all the items were bad. The effort you put into correcting me about the pronoun "she", you should put that effort into correcting your mistakes...

I ordered 2 Jerk Chicken meals, and a couple sides of Mac N cheese yesterday.. An order almost totaling $50. Let me start by saying the portion sizes are way too small for almost $20 a plate... Smallest take out containers I've ever seen. Every jamaican/carribean/puerto rican place I've ever ate at, a jerk chicken meal comes with beans and rice, AND 2 SIDES. Some places even give you 2 sides AND PLANTAINS. I shouldn't have to pick rice and beans as 1 of my 2 sides. So basically you're only giving customers 1 side.. Greedy much? Also, you guys put 3 of the smallest pieces of chicken I've ever seen in our to gos! More bone than chicken! Tiny legs, tiny pieces. A big piece of fried chicken breast from KFC is twice the size of all 3 pieces of chicken in my to gos! What Jamaican place makes you choose red beans and rice as 1 of your sides with your jerk chicken meal? Really? Now onto the biggest issue with the food. I feel like this establishment purposely made my food EXTREMELY SPICY. When I say spicy, I mean ridiculously hot. Like ignorantly hot. NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY CAN STOMACH A WHOLE PLATE OF FOOD THAT HOT. I feel like it was purposely done, for what reason I don't know. Look... Im a pepper guy. I eat GHOST PEPPERS AND COROLINA REAPER PEPPERS REGULARLY. I eat Habaneros, scotch bonnet, carribean peppers and seranos like their nothing. Like all the time. THIS FOOD WAS SO HOT I HAD TEARS AND SNOT RUNNING DOWN MY FACE TRYING TO EAT IT. This is coming from a guy who is a pepper freak. I love scotch bonnet etc. But this was ridiculous. My fiance eats ghost peppers with me like they're nothing. This had her almost throwing up it was so hot. Like really guys? I grow ghost peppers and carolina reapers. Some of the hottest peppers in the world. I enjoy spicy believe me. But this was insane. Like you guys are ignorant for serving food like that! Any other Jamaican place I have ever ate at in my entire life allows you to choose mac n cheese as a side. I can't get a side of Mac N Cheese with my food? I have to pay for it on the side? So it doesn't come with rice and beans, I have to choose that as 1 of my sides. Cant choose the Mac n cheese. Excluding the beans and rice as 1 of my "sides", A jerk chicken meal from you guys basically only comes with 1 side? And somehow you guys didn't have any plantains either? Like really guys? This food had my Fiances and I's stomache upset all night. This morning sitting on the toilet was a nightmare. These people are ignorant, and do not deserve anyones business. Jamaican food is cheap as it is!! Boiled cabbage? So cheap! Rice and beans!? Even cheaper! Mac n cheese!? Some noodles and cheese sauce!? CHEAPP!! You're feeding people great depression era food, yet you still are greedy!? Boiled cabbage, beans and rice, and noodles and cheese is a struggle meal! How dare you guys charge what you're charging and only offer 1 side besides the rice and beans that should come with the meal automatically? A couple heads of cabbage, 10 cans of red beans, big bag of rice, some noodles and velveeta cheese? You probably spend $35 total and feed people all day at $20 almost a plate! You cant offer red beans and rice with the meal? Greedy! YOUR FOOD IS RIDICULOUSLY AND I MEAN RIDICULOUSLY HOTTTT. This is coming from a guy who eats some of the hottest peppers in the world, also someone who loves scotch bonnet. Really guys? I really hope it wasn't because we are white you guys did that to us. Never had any issue ordering from Pura Vida. That's where I'll continue to go...

This was my favorite restaurant but the quality declined drastically. I used to tell all my family, friends and everybody I knew about it and at one point I was coming weekly but nothing is the same now. First, the best idea they ever came up with was to serve brunch. The brunch was a 100/10 everything I had at brunch was absolutely perfect, but they stopped doing brunch . I don’t know why but they just abruptly stopped. If they did it monthly or something at least that would be great. Then they went up on prices but the portions became a lot smaller. I really loved this place because you could get a lot of GREAT food at a great price but that’s no longer the case here. I used to be able to have a whole half of my meal left and be extremely full now I eat my entire meal and most the time I’m not full. I used to get the brown stew cauliflower which was my favorite meal ever but of course it’s no longer served, Mac and cheese &vegan Mac isn’t included with the meal anymore . They make you pay for mac separately and the vegan Mac recipe is definitely not the same it taste odd and they use penne noodles instead of cavatappi noodles so only a few noodles take up the whole cup but it’s barely anything in it. I literally have to pay $8 for the tiniest cup ever. The customer service declined as well it’s only been two times ever I had an issue with my food and neither time did they fix it it’s basically you get what you get attitude . I called once and said my food too salty and my carrots and potatoes are hard she said well I just tested it here and it’s not lol and another time I told the man that my cabbage too crunchy can they cook it more or give me something else he said I can’t fix it it’s all in one thing so it’s all going to taste like that. I just feel like everything just changed they don’t really care about vegan items anymore it’s very rare you’re going to even be able to get vegan Mac and cheese because no matter what time of the day it is they’re going to say their out of it. I also feel like the recipes aren’t consistent I feel like some days it’s better and some days it’s just off. My boyfriend used to get the brown stew chicken and it used to come with whole pieces of chicken like a drum stick , wings and now it’s just chopped up chunks and he was super disappointed. Most of the times they don’t answer their phones and a lot of times you’re going to get a bad attitude on the phone. Sometimes the wait on the food is outrageous and some days it’s fast . I don’t know if they’re trying to cut corners or what’s going on but they need to go back to actually caring about the quality of their food. But yes I like the food and yes I’m going to keep coming back but improvement...
