American Cafe — Restaurant in Port Saint Lucie

I called for over an hour & it was busy. I told the server & she said sometimes they leave the phone off the hook by accident. The server I think her name was Maria very friendly, available, attentive. I specifically was searching for chicken soup and egg salad sandwich & they had both Bingo. The soup broth was bitter, only time I've ever tasted it like that. My only guess is it was old. The sandwich was good, fresh bread & lettuce. Ice tea horrible, weak sugar water no tea flavor at all. Side of fries $2.00 great price. I asked for a side of Thousand Island for my fries. Finished that one & asked for another. On the bill I was charged $2.50 for those tiny plastic containers of TI. A great place to have a delicious meal on a Sunday morning!! The homemade waffle was light and fluffy, and the south of the border omlette is just as good as it sounds! Not too spicy, though I do love a good spice, it does have flavor! My choice of side was the grits, which I guess you have to southern to really appreciate, and some toast. But if you're skeptical of the grits, my advice, load them with butter and/or cheese, salt and pepper to taste! You've got one amazing meal, even without the waffle!! Solo breakfast, Eggs over medium, home fries with onions, biscuit and gravy. $ 6 bucks. Everything done perfectly eggs, home fries and great biscuit. The gravy was good (not the best I've had but a generous amount and solidly good. Service was great and coffee was very good. Nothing else to ask for in a country breakfast.
