Victoria Town | Hidden European Fairy Tale Charm in Seattle

A cute cafe with some awesome paintings inside. Atmosphere is great but food was 3-4 star. I had the Reuben with their “famous” clam chowder. Chowder was just okay. It had a different flavor and didn’t really taste like clam chowder. Wasn’t that hot either. It had shaved carrots in it. The Reuben was good but nothing special. Deli corned beef. Their chipotle sauce was good. I saved half to bring home. Not as good as Front Street Grill’s Reuben in Coupeville, Washington. Wife had the Cod tacos. She said it was okay and gave it a 3-star. I tried it and I concur. Our other guest had the Risotto. He didn’t care for it that much and gave it a 3. He had never tried risotto before. I tried it and thought it was pretty good but not as good as I can make it. It was a huge plate. Could have feed 2 people easily. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. I also had coffee and it was great. Service was phenomenal. Charlie was the waiter and was really competent. Price was on the higher side, I thought. Bottom line is that it is a cute and comfortable place to eat. Food isn’t bad but it isn’t great either. If the place and service wasn’t so nice I would have given it a 3-star. Went here again about 2 years later. Enjoyed the food. I had Lamb Meatballs and Penne, spicy sausage and kalamata olives. It was very good and is enough for a couple of meals. Wife had Prosciutto over angel hair pasta in a cream sauce. It was good as well. The meal was $56 without tip. Food is good but the atmosphere is what makes this place. Jazzy music and great service.

This quaint little (emphasis on little, it's cramped) packs a lot of flavor and people for its size. Make sure you make a reservation. They reserve 1.5 hours per table for their reservations and tables are limited. We had the bouillabaisse and mushroom risotto with salmon. They were both quite tasty, but the bouillabaisse was bursting with flavor! The kids got their nino pasta and they were quite happy with the offerings. I snuck a few bites and they were good. I wished I could have tried their pesto because everything was tasty and I love pesto. For there being so few tables actually being served, the water was not refilled often and I had to steal from my table's cups. No ice in the water was also odd for me. The server did great with the kids, but I'm not quite sure I'd call it family-friendly just because of how close quarters it is. Without screens, I'm not sure our kids would have survived the outing and I'm certain it would have affected those around us a lot more. There was a lot of anxiety about us interrupting other diners.

The seating area is small, and, while we were there, the room stayed fairly steady at capacity, although i didn't notice any customers being turned away for lack of seating... and, there's no waiting area, aside from the sidewalk outside.

The server was pleasant, and did a respectable job.

The food we had (two different pasta dishes), were both quite tasty, and had unique recipes. They were notably rich and flavorful. It would have been appropriate, especially at about $20 for each of our pasta entrees, to have some (extra) bread served with the dishes, not only to permit the full enjoyment of every last drop of tasty sauces, but to assist in the occasional cleansing of the palate.

My standards are higher than others', perhaps, due to my personal experiences in food service, but details like skimping on bread (a small dish, with a few small slices of bread, was served as an appetizer, along with an herb butter; the bread was fresh, but well burned on the bottom), a very limited seafood menu, and an environment entirely too informal and noisy to justify the upscale pricing, have bumped their rating down a bit. My wife might have rated them 5 stars, though, and she is, when it comes to food, rather hard to please, so that is rather significant.

i would eat here again, most certainly, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to folks who can afford their moderate pricing (it isn't, for the record, particularly expensive, but it is more than one might expect for a downscale, informal cafe, and more than is typical for the region). Entrees appeared to range between $14 and $35, and didn't include salads, appetizers, or any of those type of extras.

The table sizes seemed limited by the room size - mostly round, with 2 or 4 chairs. That might make them unable to appropriately accommodate a larger group. But, it makes for a nice date location.

They do take reservations, and i would definitely...

The most racist service I have ever experienced in my life. I went in here with my husband and 3 members of my Indian American family. My mom asked for turkey to be added to her sandwich - it arrived with no turkey. After trying unsuccessfully to get the attention of the waiter, I walked up to the bar to let him know about the missing turkey and ask if a new sandwich could be made for my mom or if just some turkey could be sent out. He immediately said one of the dumbest, and most offensive things I have ever heard: instead of taking responsibility for his mistake and trying to fix it, he put the blame on my mom and said "There was a language barrier." I had to tell this bigot that my mother has been speaking - and teaching English - longer than he's been alive, and that any "barrier" was his alone. There was zero language or even accent barrier - he made a mistake and instead of owning up to it decided to blame US for being brown. I hope anyone with a conscience will not go to this restaurant until this idiot is fired. I will be calling to speak to a manager tomorrow to demand this happen.

Update 1: I'm attaching screenshots here of how the owner, Nicholas Yates, responded to my Facebook review (which was exactly what I've written above), and also my recounting of how my phone call with him went. It was all very nasty and insulting, just like my experience at the restaurant, and I hope people will take their business elsewhere.

Update 2: Please BEWARE of this place. As of this writing, the owner (Nicholas Yates) has enlisted his friends in Port Townsend to personally insult and attack me online for complaining about the racist experience my family and I had there. It's clear they have no clue how to treat customers or how to proactively problem-solve issues when they arise. From the outset, I've been met with nothing but nasty, ad hominem attacks for voicing...

I made a reservation for 2, a day in advance. At that time there were only one table left for 6:30 and one for 7:00. So even a day in advance was cutting it slim. You'll want to do this also, as the seating is limited and fills up fast. You most likely will not get a table if you pull into town and think you're going to walk in or even get a reservation especially on a weekend. And if there is a festival in town, forget about it. While my friend decided she couldn't make it, I chose to dine alone. Always awkward for me to be the "single guy" eating alone on a Saturday night amongst tables of couples, and groups. You always get... "That looks", haha... HOWEVER, once the wine and entre came... who cares. The food is out of this world. I had the shrimp fettuccine. Huge shrimp and plenty of them. Fresh, done to absolute perfection, and the fettuccine was to die for. I've eaten here before, and absolutely nothing has changed, except for one thing. You used to be able to smell the garlic in the air from two blocks away. Didn't smell it this time. Could be new ownership I suppose, but nothing has changed with respect to quality, flavor and quantity. This is a must visit. They have an amazing selection of wines in all price ranges. And plenty of menu items to select from. I can't confirm, but I also understand they will serve vegan style as well. Go here, it won't disappoint. I actually forgot all about being "the single guy" once the fare was served. It is truly amazing. (Each and every time) with wine, food and tip...
