The seating area is small, and, while we were there, the room stayed fairly steady at capacity, although i didn't notice any customers being turned away for lack of seating... and, there's no waiting area, aside from the sidewalk outside.
The server was pleasant, and did a respectable job.
The food we had (two different pasta dishes), were both quite tasty, and had unique recipes. They were notably rich and flavorful. It would have been appropriate, especially at about $20 for each of our pasta entrees, to have some (extra) bread served with the dishes, not only to permit the full enjoyment of every last drop of tasty sauces, but to assist in the occasional cleansing of the palate.
My standards are higher than others', perhaps, due to my personal experiences in food service, but details like skimping on bread (a small dish, with a few small slices of bread, was served as an appetizer, along with an herb butter; the bread was fresh, but well burned on the bottom), a very limited seafood menu, and an environment entirely too informal and noisy to justify the upscale pricing, have bumped their rating down a bit. My wife might have rated them 5 stars, though, and she is, when it comes to food, rather hard to please, so that is rather significant.
i would eat here again, most certainly, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to folks who can afford their moderate pricing (it isn't, for the record, particularly expensive, but it is more than one might expect for a downscale, informal cafe, and more than is typical for the region). Entrees appeared to range between $14 and $35, and didn't include salads, appetizers, or any of those type of extras.
The table sizes seemed limited by the room size - mostly round, with 2 or 4 chairs. That might make them unable to appropriately accommodate a larger group. But, it makes for a nice date location.
They do take reservations, and i would definitely...
Read moreThe most racist service I have ever experienced in my life. I went in here with my husband and 3 members of my Indian American family. My mom asked for turkey to be added to her sandwich - it arrived with no turkey. After trying unsuccessfully to get the attention of the waiter, I walked up to the bar to let him know about the missing turkey and ask if a new sandwich could be made for my mom or if just some turkey could be sent out. He immediately said one of the dumbest, and most offensive things I have ever heard: instead of taking responsibility for his mistake and trying to fix it, he put the blame on my mom and said "There was a language barrier." I had to tell this bigot that my mother has been speaking - and teaching English - longer than he's been alive, and that any "barrier" was his alone. There was zero language or even accent barrier - he made a mistake and instead of owning up to it decided to blame US for being brown. I hope anyone with a conscience will not go to this restaurant until this idiot is fired. I will be calling to speak to a manager tomorrow to demand this happen.
Update 1: I'm attaching screenshots here of how the owner, Nicholas Yates, responded to my Facebook review (which was exactly what I've written above), and also my recounting of how my phone call with him went. It was all very nasty and insulting, just like my experience at the restaurant, and I hope people will take their business elsewhere.
Update 2: Please BEWARE of this place. As of this writing, the owner (Nicholas Yates) has enlisted his friends in Port Townsend to personally insult and attack me online for complaining about the racist experience my family and I had there. It's clear they have no clue how to treat customers or how to proactively problem-solve issues when they arise. From the outset, I've been met with nothing but nasty, ad hominem attacks for voicing...
Read moreI made a reservation for 2, a day in advance. At that time there were only one table left for 6:30 and one for 7:00. So even a day in advance was cutting it slim. You'll want to do this also, as the seating is limited and fills up fast. You most likely will not get a table if you pull into town and think you're going to walk in or even get a reservation especially on a weekend. And if there is a festival in town, forget about it. While my friend decided she couldn't make it, I chose to dine alone. Always awkward for me to be the "single guy" eating alone on a Saturday night amongst tables of couples, and groups. You always get... "That looks", haha... HOWEVER, once the wine and entre came... who cares. The food is out of this world. I had the shrimp fettuccine. Huge shrimp and plenty of them. Fresh, done to absolute perfection, and the fettuccine was to die for. I've eaten here before, and absolutely nothing has changed, except for one thing. You used to be able to smell the garlic in the air from two blocks away. Didn't smell it this time. Could be new ownership I suppose, but nothing has changed with respect to quality, flavor and quantity. This is a must visit. They have an amazing selection of wines in all price ranges. And plenty of menu items to select from. I can't confirm, but I also understand they will serve vegan style as well. Go here, it won't disappoint. I actually forgot all about being "the single guy" once the fare was served. It is truly amazing. (Each and every time) with wine, food and tip...
