We booked this room for a nice relaxing romantic getaway. Less than 5 minutes after checking into our to 9A Miss Rose, I received a phone call from Michael at the front desk stating that the previous guests had left something in one of the dresser drawers and ask me to look for it for him. I felt this was odd that he was asking me to do his job as I looked through the dresser drawers he stated to me it's in the bottom drawer and apparently it's very sensitive and nature. He should have come to our room and respectfully ask to look for these items on his own rather than making me do this and to see what I was about to see. Which was a drawer Full of adult toys! I was shocked and disgusted that he asked me to do this when he should have came. And that obviously the maids do not do a thorough job of cleaning and checking the room before their next to guests show up. He came to the room to get the "items"and was less than apologetic pretty much shrugged it off saying "I've seen all kinds of things working in the hotel business"I made it clear I was unhappy and that I did not feel comfortable staying in this room nothing was done to accommodate us changing rooms nothing was offered to us as a way of being apologetic for the situation. When I stated it was obvious the maids to not clean the rooms he said that they do they just don't check the drawers. I stated that I did not feel comfortable about the cleanliness of the room and requested the bed be changed with a clean new bedspread put on the bed and that I had been very much looking forward to soaking in the tub and after seeing a couple of the "items" in the drawer the thought of being in the tub disgusted me so I asked that that be cleaned as well. Had I not requested this nothing would have been done as absolutely nothing was offered as a way of trying to make things right. I left messages for the manager and received no phone calls back I finally was able to get a message through for the owner to call me. The owner John, called me the day after we checked out and was extremely rude basically stated that they do clean their rooms that he been told that " a dildo was lodged in the back of a bottom drawer"when I corrected him and told him it was a drawer full and that I took a picture that I was happy to show him he said it was unnecessary he did not want to see that. At which point I asked him and I am supposed to want to see it!? When I discussed with him at the front desk should have handled this differently and that at the very least they should have offered to send us to dinner on behalf of the hotel while they reclaimed our room he stated "well there's nothing we can do I'm sorry however there's nothing we can do. We have six sets of eyes that go over every room and our rooms are very clean"I tried again to get him to understand how are weekend was ruined because of this how I was uncomfortable in the room how I was told there was no other rooms and absolutely nothing has been done to try to rectify this situation. He could have cared less and just kept repeating that mistakes happen. If you want to be gouged for an overpriced room that's dirty and be treated with terrible service then go ahead...
Read moreI just wanna start out by saying that I have been coming to this hotel 2-3 times (or more) a year - since 2018. Originally they used to come in and clean your room daily, and they used to offer you a couple day pass to the Port Townsend gym. It had that small town, friendly atmosphere where you felt comfortable and welcomed. I stayed in pretty awesome rooms, with a kitchen & a full fridge so you could shop for groceries and fill the fridge for your stay.
A lot has changed over the years.
I am in the Navy, so whenever I come and stay at this hotel, it's for at least one week, but could be two weeks or more.
When I stay here, I ask for a government rate. Due to my long stay, I prefer a room with a kitchen so I can cook my own meals and not eat out every night.
Since 2020/2021, they limit what rooms are available to government employees, stating they lose money on us because we get a government rate. Therefore, limiting us to a limited number of rooms with kitchens but majority without kitchens. I mean, come on! They don't even offer a continental breakfast! This is not some luxury vacation. I'm not trying to get a military rate so I can have fun. I'm leaving my family and traveling across the United States because it's my duty to this country.
The way I see it is if the room is available and hasn't been booked at the time I'm calling then aren't you making money by us booking it even at a lesser rate? Just to clarify, I was willing to move room to room! So I wouldn't be in a "superior" room for too long. But, nope. 2 nights in a superior room that has not been booked yet, potentially can put them out of business- per what was stated to be in a voicemail (which I still have).
The hotel doesn't even clean the rooms everyday so they are saving money on housekeeping! I have stayed 12 days before and had to ask for a sheet change and fresh towels and take out my own trash. None of which is a big deal, BUT seems to me like you're saving money in that aspect. There is no air condition, no elevator, no complimentary food, the front desk doesn't have 24 hour service, unpaved parking lot (where myself and others have had our spot taken by another car), and no daily housekeeping.
Many other hotels in the area have kitchens/ kitchenettes and do not discriminate against a person using the government rate. Many offer free breakfast, a gorgeous water view, daily housekeeping, some have air conditioning, and all others have an elevator. In fact, I'm currently at Harborside Inn, with a free breakfast, beautiful water view, vending machines, and a paved parking lot.
So, you win, Palace Hotel. You can lose my 2-3 times a year for a 1-2 week stay business, since you make so much more money off others.
Thank you SO much for your support of the military. I will be SURE to pass that along to others...
Read moreYou are in the heart of Port Townsend and can walk each way through town. No need for a car. Wonderful town with lots of interesting shops (spend 5 hours one day) and right next to the water; lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee.||As a woman by herself, I stayed at the Palace and felt safe and comfortable. I was on the 2nd floor, Room 5A, Miss Colleen. It was a spacious room and bathroom with a clawfoot tub and high shower, marble and wooden vanity with a copper sink and nice blood orange scented soap. The room had a comfortable bed, hob nail sitting chair that I mostly used and two wooden chairs and a table with leaves that extended to give you more room. The refrigerator was a good size to hold leftovers in the plastic containers I had brought from home. Microwave. Four pot coffee maker with a good supply of regular and decaf coffee packs for my three night stay. Real coffee cups and glasses for water. Good lighting in the room and the screened windows were left open which was nice. The windows opened partway and provided good air flow. The view was of the parked cars and lovely tree leaves provided shade and privacy, like being in a tree house. ||Coffee pot in the room. Coffee was good if you fill the pot to 3 cups. Filter looked clean too.|No breakfast or food facilities, but directly across the street was Better Living Through Coffee which had pastries from Pane d'Amour bakery (tip: almond croissant!) and a new Irish Cream coffee. The Waterfront Pizza also across the street and to the left was good; just sit by the water across the street or bring it back to the room. It was enough for two meals. ||I mostly closed the windows at night which kept the room pretty comfortable. There is a floor heater next to the windows that you can turn on as well. Decor was a quilt, lace curtains, antique furniture. Victorian style lamps with tassels and an overhead light. It was like going back in time to the Victorian era or late 1800's which was fun. ||Jan Marie at the front desk was helpful and pleasant.||Of note:|The building has an interesting history and the upper two floors from 1925 - 1933 was known as "the Palace of Sweets" and was a hotel and brothel. If you get the Marie Suite on the 2nd floor, it is where the madam lived. I had toured the Red Onion Saloon and brothel in Skagway, and now I can say I slept in a former brothel as well. Sheets were clean.||No elevator or air conditioning. It was 31 steps to the 2nd floor (not a bad climb with a carry-on suitcase), and each floor is about 13 - 15 feet high - wonderfully high and open in the rooms.||Free parking is behind the hotel for guests.||The hotel is lovely with its original painted ceiling, stained glass and lots of sitting nooks and chairs. Explore while you are a guest. It is like stepping...
