A group of four of us, all foodies who appreciate great beer, love everything about this pub! The food and beer, including nearly 20 local and other excellent beers on tap, are top notch. There's even an amber or darker lager that's specially brewed for Andy's by Rising Tide (I believe that's the brewery) that you can only get at Andy's or the brewery! It's delish. And, speaking of delish -- the food is incredible, and I don't say that lightly. The pizza is amazing - literally the best crust we've had. It's thin with a perfect layer of crust that stops the entire bottom from ever getting soggy, with a soft, delicious chewy inside. Don't get me started about the homemade bacon jam and slow roasted pulled pork on the top! Andy's will create whatever pizza you want, but I recommend taking the chef's recommendation. We also got the poutine, which was incredible. Home cut Maine potatoes, homemade gravy from the droppings of the slow roasted pork, and loads of the pulled pork on top. A huge portion too. Large enough for 2-4 people to share. Best poutine we've ever tasted, and we've tasted a lot. The fish tacos were also amazing. We had the haddock, which was incredibly light and fresh. When you're there, you have to talk to John, the owner, who is incredibly proud of the homemade food and the amazing chefs that he has hired. He walks less than a block away every day to pick up freshly caught seafood to serve and takes incredible pride on the quality of his food and beer. There's also live music most nights. Can't go wrong with Andy's! Do yourself a favor and find this unassuming pub that represents what we love...
Read moreMy brother and I went to Portland for the first time 4 months ago for a convention with a costuming group. We always try any Irish bar/pub we can when visitng a new location, from the worst of the worst to best of the best. When I say Andy's Old Port Pub is better than any we have been to in 3 years of travling New England together, I mean it. Never have we felt so welcome, so included, and so satisfied with a pub by just walking in and sitting down.
The management was incredibly kind, staff unbelievably welcoming, and even the CLIENTELE were fun to be with which I can NOT say for any other pub/bar. They absolutely attract the right crowd. We were treated as part of the family from the staff, i.e. despite then not having a certain cider I was looking for in bottles, the management offered to sell the last of the keg the had of it per glass that they couldn't get rid of as no body had asked for it in a long time. They had a band playing that night by chance and we still have the band's business card, and as for the clientele our night gave us good friends and great stories to leave with, a few of which were even regulars. If those customers are regulars, Andy's Pub is a GREAT place to make new friends and memories especially for visitors.
Andy's Pub is amazing, and despite Portland having a few good pubs and bars in the town, this is one we absolutely will be going to every...
Read moreGood food, awful service, though I realize service is hit or miss. The table next to us would probably think the place had good service. Maybe they had a different server than us, but the truth is I am not really sure who our server was. The table of four next to us had their food delivered before ours even though they never walked in and sat down until 15 minutes after we ordered our two basic entrees, and my wife miffed when that server thanked them for their patience. And there is nothing more to this, meaning we all looked the same, spoke the same politeness, sat in the same general area, etc. I believe there was another table of two that waited roughly as long as we did for our food. Might have been just a matter of the cook gone awol for a half hour; cannot really say. Though once our food was dropped on our table I had to call our server back to ask for place settings. There was more of the same, but I think you get the drift. Though I will add its interior is more like a diner/family restaurant, not a pub. My wife was on the fence over staying after first seeing the inside, not because she minded the setting but because it did not match what she was expecting. We sat near the door and watched two separate parties walk in and walk right back out. Just saying. I would guess they were at 80-90% capacity the time...
