Since the Bar Bar manager enthusiastically told me to “go write a bad review or whatever you want” while gaslighting my group, here it is! Myself and three friends went to Bar Bar on 3/30/2024 to meet two friends. Our IDs were checked at the door, bags were checked, and we received a stamp. While waiting in line to order, a staff member approached us and asked to see our IDs again. We obliged and then he quizzed my friend on her ID as if it was fake. After checking, he apologized and said there’s a lot of fake IDs going around. Ok, weird but no problem- thanks for being safe! We continue to wait in line before being approached again by who I assume is the manager. His tone was patronizing and said he couldn’t serve us. As my group looked at each other in confusion, he told us to calm down. (We were calm). He asked if we were at the Rambler beforehand to which I responded yes. He then accused us of getting kicked out of the Rambler. (What????) First, our original party of four went to the Rambler for one beer and a meal before going to Bar Bar. We sat outside and chatted over our first drink of the night. Second, if we had gotten kicked out why would we admit to being there? This man proceeded to gaslight four 23-27 year old women (with very real Oregon IDs) and wave us out. I suppose it’s necessary to note that we were all sober, calm, and composed - just very confused when someone is accusing you of lying when you’re not! As a member of the neighborhood it felt horrible being spoken to in such a demeaning manner in a place I usually support.
I went back to the Rambler to inquire about this situation because the Bar Bar manager claimed he received a call from them. The door security at Rambler was very kind and confirmed there was no problem with us and he never made a call. He had verified all of our IDs.
I hope the group you allegedly received a call about had a good night. We...
Read moreSo normally the staff is nice and polite. However, today I walk in seeing the signs for wearing a mask and staying 6 feet away. Looking at the menu and patiently waiting for the customer in front ordering and texting, I didn't see anything else. I ordered and I got a condescending what table are you at. I said I think we will sit over there in the back. I got um that's not a table number.. I said I won't know it till I get to it. The response was I won't know where you are without it, the are signs. I said I followed your tape and read the mask and distance sign. At that point the attitude started. So I walked to the back picked a random table and barked my table number. There was a customer that changed tables to sit with her friend, she was found and given food by the guy delivering food and he didn't mind that he had to clean her abandoned table. Was I profiled? Age shamed cuz I'm not under 25? Very VERY poor customer service. Customer is supposed to be right and at the very least treated with respect.. guess it's hard to find 2 guys in hi vis sitting in the back by themselves in a crowd of 6 people in the...
Read moreReally really poor experience at this bar. They had a man working the door who rudely asked to see my papers, which is none of their business. Second, we had to seat ourselves. Third, no menus were given to us so get ready to use your smartphone to view a teeny tiny menu. Fourth, I asked the waitress who brought out the food if I could have some water, to which she said I could get it myself! I'm sorry, what is the tip for? What a horrifically lazy answer from the wait staff! Fifth, my burger came and it was fringed with something extremely crunchy and it tasted like burnt nastiness. Not sure what it was, but my girlfriend's beyond burger didn't have it. (Also, side note, I take my burgers medium rare at restaurants, but there's no way to ask for that with their terrible online ordering system. As a result, my burger came out dry and tasteless except for the garbage caking the outside.) All in all, I'd rather have spent $6 at McDonald's, considering I'd have gotten better service and better/more food for my money. Portland is REALLY going down the drain fast,...
