A Brunch Oasis in Portland: Bar West Nails It

If you're tired of predictable brunch fare, Bar West is your answer. Nestled in NW Stumptown, this cozy spot's vibrant atmosphere instantly set the mood for a perfect start to my weekend.

Their menu offers delightful twists on classics. I had to try the West Wich Sandwich – a masterpiece of a fried egg, juicy Applewood sausage, vibrant kale, and a spicy tomato jam that brought everything together, all piled on a pillowy brioche roll with melted cheddar. Talk about flavor fireworks! My friend couldn't resist the Proper Breakfast. Thick slabs of smoky bacon, perfectly cooked eggs, award-winning Dos Hermano's sourdough toast, and those incredible Calabrian potatoes... brunch goals right there.

Ask for a side of their homemade Habenero sauce 🤯 (mind-blowingly sweet-hot creeper!)

Of course, mimosas are mandatory. However, we opted for Smith Bergamot tea and VERY good coffee. Wines by the glass don't disappoint. And the service? Impeccable, adding to the whole experience. The music is just too loud enough to keep your shoulders rolling to the 70s R&B jams!

If you want a Portland brunch with incredible food, delightful drinks, and a warm, welcoming vibe, Bar West won't disappoint. Trust me, it's the proper way to start your weekend.

Back 4 more - our server who "doesn't work there" was hilarious and charming. Colored socks!!! Thanks for making us feel welcome. We met Phyllis the Chihuahua! Breakfast was slam dunk. Cardamom iced Cold Brew - would be better with booze, but what a treat! The atmosphere is so charming and the food is...

Oh this makes me so sad because Bar West used to be a “go to” when we were in the neighborhood. Came for brunch today - which at 12:30 fine but I wish there was a lunch option. I ordered the only sandwich on the menu and it tasted like it was made with hatred. First of all- no where on the food description did it say it was a hot/panini type sandwich so I was expecting something totally different than what arrived. Second of all it came out on a flavorless brioche roll that wasn’t toasted (weird with the rest being hot) and completely DRY- no sauce/mayo/anything. I asked for the sauce so I could put on myself but the “tomato chutney” tasted like tomato paste straight from the can with some sautéed onions in it. I eventually took off the top of the roll and tried to enjoy the inner elements of the sandwich but NONE of those elements were seasoned. A good sandwich has good components put together with some thought. Nothing fit together or had any care/quality in the preparation. Also the salad dressing was strangely sweet/sesame flavor which is bizarre I remember their side salads used to have a lovely bright lemon vinaigrette. Either the food quality has gone way down hill or whoever was in the kitchen today was having a super bad day and took it out on the food. Ordered Iced tea with no refill offered and “fresh squeezed” OJ that came from a bottle. Multiple service staff walked by and looked through us (maybe we were at the “invisible” table). Bummer cause we love the ambiance and used to...

I've been wanting to go to Bar West for months and I am so happy I finally got the chance to experience this amazing bar within the Nob Hill neighborhood.

The elements that make Bar West unique and a place I will continue to go to are:

  1. The drinks (sheesh they are good)
  2. The interior design and vibe.

The drinks here were absolutely fantastic (especially the cocktails). As a wine drinker, I'm always delighted when cocktail forward places offer wine and their selections here were pretty good. The cocktails were amazing, I loved the use of garnishes to add a scent to the drink (more places need to do this).

The interior of Bar West is my favorite out of any bar I've been to. After walking past this place for years, I never knew what I was missing out on. The inside feels like you're sitting in someone's home, in large part to the cozy lighting and the easy on the eye colors within the bar. The decorations fit with the vibe and make it an incredibly relaxing place to enjoy food and drinks. Whoever designed the interior of the restaurant I applaud you, amazing work!!

The only thing I would improve was the pizza cook time, I felt it could've been in the oven for a little longer to make it less soggy, otherwise our food was good.

To bring everything together, the staff here were very friendly and attentive, they provided great service. I highly recommend Bar West and I will undoubtedly be back...
