I’m going to try to make this as short as I can. Atmosphere is nice and clean and service was very friendly , no complaints there. Now I should start by saying Im a full blooded Salvadoran who can mange expectations when it comes to pupusas from local restaurants. I tried many pupusas places here in PDX and have been disappointed many times. I ordered the platanos and some pupusas . The platanos were prefect , absolutely no complaints. I order take out so I extra appreciated that they packed the beans and creama separately. I ordered three different pupusas , a revuelta, queso con frijol and lorocco con queso. First I’ll say flavor is there , the traditional flavors are there the beans were delicious and the lorroco tasted fresh . Now a few complaints I have that are easy fixes, one of my pupusas was mostly masa but it was just the one . And the revulta, at first I thought it was beans and cheese , barely tasted the pork that was supposed to be in there . Other than that if you’re a Salvadorian I’d say give it a try , you won’t be too dissatisfied bc flavor is there !! And if your not Salvadorian and are just trying for the first time or dipping your toes into Salvadoran cuisine than I’d start here for sure!!!
Ps. Cortido was spot on and the salsa was good and tasted...
Read moreBichos is a hidden gem for authentic Salvadoran cuisine! As soon as you step inside, you're transported to El Salvador through the vibrant artwork adorning the walls. Each piece tells a story of the country's rich culture and heritage, creating an immersive dining experience. The best part of my visit was definitely the tacos. I ordered a variety, and each one was a flavor explosion. The carne asada taco was perfectly seasoned, with tender, juicy meat. The carnitas taco had the percent amount of fat that would just melt when you bite it. But what really stood out was their pupusa. It combines the best of Salvadoran and Mexican cuisines. The thick, hand-made corn tortilla was stuffed with gooey cheese and savory pork, then folded and grilled to perfection. It's a must-try! The service was friendly and attentive, with staff happy to explain the menu and offer recommendations. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, making it perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. If you're looking for delicious Salvadoran food in a visually stunning setting, look no further than Bichos. It's more than just a meal – it's an experience that will leave you planning your next visit before you've even...
Read moreBased on the strength of recommendations by others, we decided to try Bicho's for a mid-week lunch date. Sadly, our experience was entirely unlike those reported by others. As far as service goes, it was quite slow, particularly given that the restaurant was nearly empty, and I would say it was neither friendly nor unfriendly, just quiet. We wanted to order chips and guacamole, but the server told us that they didn't have any of the latter, so we instead asked for salsa. The chips were garden-variety, more or less what you would get if you bought a bag of Juanita's at the store, but the salsa was really unpleasant - it tasted to me like someone had added a bunch of sugar to a jar of Pace. The fried plantains were unremarkable - relatively textureless and flavorless. For lunch itself, I ordered tacos al pastor and my wife ordered chile relleno. Again, the flavors were off, with some strange taste infusing the refritos, bland rice. The meat was reasonably tasty, but underseasoned. Since we haven't been back, I can't comment on whether this was just a bad day for them, but my assessment is that one can easily do much better for Central American cuisine at other...
